New Video: Maye Hunta – Ekaette
Posted on Friday, November 6th, 2009 at 7:14 PMBy BellaNaija.com
A funny video for a Friday evening. The song is called ‘Ekaette‘ and is by Maya Hunta.
When the song started, was wondering what he was crooning so seriously about. Only to discover its a song about him engaging in ‘amorous relations’ with his househelp. Though funny, some interesting social commentary as well. Till date, still hear numerous stories of men engaging in inappropraite behaviour with their household staff…
Will love to hear what you think about this!
Watch out for Maya Hunta’s new album ‘MayeFestation’. Coming Soon

I’ve been smiling though out the song… funny and sounds good!
GOSH! This song is the bomb! It’s so freaking funny and can get you fired at work….for laughing out (tooooo) loud.
On a serious note: The Ekaette here is pretty hot o. In reality, any woman that invites such a comparably pretty ‘housegirl’ into her home is looking for yawa (trouble). On the other hand, dogs will be dogs; doesn’t really matter what the bitch looks like.
This is flipping hilarious lolololololo as in it’s like all serious sounding, but mehn this had me rolling lol! Nice JAMM
OMGGG!!!!!!!!!!!! i love the endd! looool! this is too funny! but it happens
saw this on Nigerzie yday..lol…mad song eh…
nice song but seriously unfunny theme. and why is every housegirl called Ekaette?
LOL!!!!!!!!!!! too funny
It’s good and Very Funny
Its a -ve stereotype of calabar girls being housegirls… Funny song sha!
Unfunny theme because this stuff is true. My housegirl/ actually a distant relative got preggers by the driver of another house were whe went for tailoring school. Sometimes girls from the village have this ‘Jenifa’ mentality and men just take advantage of it.
LOL, is this guy kidding me…
1st, is this guy married? probably not a good move for a song if he’s looking to get hooked
Very nice song but the theme is insulting. I bet Akwa Ibom and calabar people won’t take this for granted, it’s quite rude. Nigerians stop with the stereotyping, it’s getting old and played out.
First it was IV and now this…I love his songs already
for real men, dogs will always be dogs. hope there are still some faithful men left out there
mad video!! but to the theme, hmm, true there’s d stereotype dat most househelps r calabar – now called the housegirl syndrome. but to be honest there’s some truth in this, however there r calabar/akwa-ibom ladies doin their thg ( Emem Isong, Ini edo -e, nse, shan g,darlene b, eme akenzua- john3v3 hats owner) n we shud look at these ones n see dat akwa-cross does not only produce househelps but ppl who r making a mark in their industries
how did dis stereotype come about in d first place?smn pls wisen me
Stereotypes will always be there, men will always be men but this song calls for women to remember that when u r in a marriage it’s not about u. We need to spend time with our men and cater 4 them in all aspects. Learn how to cook, dress well and don’t think u have arrived cos there will always be competition 4 ur man and if u don’t give him anything to look forward to in u as his wife then don’t blame him if he strays.
Funny song, but who in their right mind would bring in a maid hotter than them? Ekeatte is hot!!!. but i guess even if the maid is ugly men would still be men.
Sweetie keep your pants on, it’s all in good fun. We love our Akwa Ibomites, ol’boy is just making music. No harm in taking humourous jabs at our little idiosycrasies.
Am I the only one who doesn’t find this song remotely funny at all? A man is singing about cheating on his wife with a house help… I’m definitely missing the punchline.
The song isn’t even a realistic picture of what happens to so many house helps who end pregnant by their ogas. I don’t believe that most house girls who engage in sexual relations with their ogas are seductresses who are doing so willingly. From slightly veiled threats to forceful rape, these women (and children in many cases) are abused constantly.
As an Akwa-Cross babe, I take serious offense to this video. How dare he? Growing up in Nigeria, we have had many house-girls but none of them was even Calabar or Akwa-Ibom. What craziness is this with him making a song based on a bad stereotype?
And that quote at the end of the song was out of place! Like “wives submit to your husbands”…blah blah…so he can screw the housemaid??! No thanks, if that is what submission means; I’m sure I’ll pass!
abeg chill jo, its just a song oh
Nawa oh why are some people having a hernia..it’s just a song na..
Nawa oh why are some people having a hernia?? It’s just a song na..
lol @ Hernia..but if i were Cross River or Akwa Ibom i’d take offense too…enough with the stereotype jo….as in for realz. It may just be a song but it is still propagating the stereotype…One man’s joke is another person’s hernia o!
yall nid to chill..its jst music…is it all ibo dat r 419 yet its d general belief..r all yorubas dirty..yet its a general belief..woteva u do in life…sum1 will have acontraryopinion.jst be urself
abeg it’s jst a song cos he said EKAETE doesn’t mean he’s trying to insult or offend any tribe……so u’d rather he said kemi, halima, or nkechi?? it cld have been any name k? ekaete jst seems suitable….lol
d song got me smiling too, lmaoo
Yeah, no doubt it’s could be termed as stereotypical but if you listen properly to the song more emphasis were made on the fact that Ekaette was a great cook and knew how to cater to the guy.How come when the thing is percieved as a compliment, nobody terms it stereotype. Like Calabar women can cook, or they make good partners???.It’s just a song and a name. It could have been Risika, Nneka or Amina!Ekaette just worked better!
1. the punchline is that the idiot is now remembering God- pretty simple
2. a song about rape etc would be a bit depressing don’t u think
3. yes some maids get abused but i assure u plenty of them abuse as well- i know countless nigerians who were sexually assaulted by their housegirls/ boys when they were minors (which by the way in 9ja is under-13) but that, like u pointed out is not what this song is about. if u want to watch something about abuse watch the movie slavemasters. this song is about an affair and parodies the way nigerians quickly turn to God when the consequences of their sins become apparant
guy,i love dis song so much.so funny, interesting, effective, guy u are jst a star.but hw can we get dis music in town.bcos i heard it on mtvbase.
haha, it is just song.4get about stereotype.dis story might not hapen 2 maye exactly bt its a true story dat is real abt lifestrip.d fact of ekaete nd calabar as d stakehero does nt mean d direct meaning of d song.dis can b tolu.funmi/lagos.guy jst keep ur head straight nd walk more cos u r a star.
wats up maye, i luv ur music and i think u r peng, however,i guess u have learnt from ur mistakes now and i would like to congratulate you for being brave to express urself publicly i guess ur different now and u will treat ur girlfriend or wife as u will want to be treated .keep up the good work and i will holla at u soon yh.if u wanna u cud add me on facebook as juliana banjo.safex E9 bang bang hackney 4 lyf
