First Look: Excerpt from the upcoming book “Aristo Wives” by Ekene Onu

An excerpt from the upcoming new book (a work in progress) from Ekene Onu, the author of “The Mrs Club”. Feel free to comment, who knows you might just change or add a storyline. Karen was a peripheral character from the Mrs Club…she was the then fiancee of Titi’s paramour Dele Thompson.

Karen noticed her immediately. She was wearing a too tight, too short skirt that showed her too full stomach and too big butt. Her weave was cheap and tangled at the back. Her bargain basement top was fraying at the bottom and her discounted heels clicked noisily on the marble floor. Karen watched her through the safety of her oversize designer sunglasses and smoothed her own perfectly fitted skirt compulsively as if to avert the disaster that she felt was coming. She walked quickly to the bathroom. Almost as soon as she pushed past the door, the woman followed after. Karen turned towards the mirror and pulled out her compact.

“You may not know who I am, but your husband is in love with me!” The woman said, with her hands on her hips.

Karen didn’t look at her directly but kept her gaze on the mirror, where she commented internally on the woman’s poor taste in lipstick. Nude would suit her better than red and matte better than gloss.

“Didn’t you hear what I said?” The woman said huffing.

Karen inhaled and then slowly exhaled. Dele had started getting sloppy. How could he choose this sort of woman as a mistress?

Finally she turned around and faced the woman. She took her time before responding, shaking out her long, expertly enhanced hair. She lifted her manicured hand to her face and took off her sunglasses, pausing just long enough for the woman to notice her flawless and sizeable diamond and only when she saw the woman’s lips quiver slightly did she speak.

“Surely you aren’t speaking to me?” She inquired in her aristo accent, carefully acquired through years at british boarding schools and courses in European universities.

The woman didn’t speak.

“Darling, has a cat got your tongue?” She took advantage of her slight moment of intimidation and moved closer to the woman. Then she stopped placed a hand on her hip and surveyed her.

The woman finally gathered her wits and said “I know you have heard my name, I am Gia, Dele screams it out loud whenever I am on top of him” She said, clearly feeling bolder.

Karen threw her head back and laughed heartily.
“Sweetheart, your name is of no consequence to me. My husband changes whores like he changes his boxer shorts and he does that sometimes twice a day. You see he can’t stand to be in anything dirty and once he is done with them that’s what they are. She said looking the girl right in the eye.
“I presume that is why you are here. You think that by approaching me, you can get him back. Let me guess, first he stopped taking your calls, then the phone number was no longer in service.” Karen smiled as the girl’s mouth dropped open. Chewing gum chick! She thought, she wants to swim in the ocean and she is still wearing inflatable wings.

“My darling, the best advice I can give you is to get on with your life. Dele doesn’t even remember your name, no matter how many times you think he called it out, because at the end of the day the only name that really matters to him, is Mrs. Karen Thompson.
And with that she turned on her heel and walked out of the bathroom, leaving the girl standing there contemplating her life.
