BN Red Carpet Fab: House of Nwocha ‘Zion’ Fashion Show
On Sunday 24th October 2010, designer Ugonna Omeruo, the creative head of Nigerian fashion label, House of Nwocha celebrated her debut headline fashion show. The label launched in 2008 and has shown collections at various events including the Ovation Red Carol 2009 and the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria 2010 Pre-Show. Prior to the event, the Zion collection lookbook had exclusively premiered on BellaNaija.com and this event was an opportunity for House of Nwocha to shine and for guests to experience the collection in its full glory.
The event was compered by Ify Ejikeme, a reality TV star and TV presenter who featured in the Big Brother Nigeria reality show and OC Ukeje, an actor who won the Amstel Malta Box Office competition in 2006. The event kicked off with a collection preview runway show by MAI featuring Menswear from the label. Then the agenda moved on to the main event. The presentation of the Zion collection.
Models strutted down the runway in the bold pink, blue and red pieces with their hair presented in a unique horn-like style. The collection consisted almost entirely of dresses – long, short, ruffled and embellished. Our favourite pieces were actually those which deviated from the dominant pink and blue palette. The floor-length red strapless dress with an embellished side detail was our pick. Taking a cue from international couture shows, the collection closed with the ‘bride’, the final piece was a dramatic pink and blue gown with a full tulle skirt and embellished fitted top. Other highlights of the event include M.I‘s performance and the unveiling of MBGN 2002, Chinenye Ochuba-Akinlade as the new Face of HON.
View the collection below and check out the BN Red Carpet Fab for the event.

Former beauty queen, Chinenye Ochuba-Akinlade was announced as the Face of HON at the event and she stood out in a floor-length asymmetrical draped gold dress with an embellished shoulder detail. She completed her look with the accessory of the season – a turban.
Photographer Eleanor Goodey has quite conservative style but she always makes it look chic rather than frumpy. Just goes to show that you don’t need to show skin to be sexy. Eleanor rocked black trousers with a long-sleeved embellished white blouse. She accessorized with a beautiful feathered hair piece and pearl pink shoes.
Why do we keep featuring Eku Edewor? Because she always looks fabulous on the red carpet. The Studio 53 Extra presenter has to attend all the top events for her job but she always manages to bring something refreshing to the table. At the House of Nwocha event, she went for city chic by pairing a white shirt with black shorts and all black accessories.
All we have to say is this – ‘SHOES’. Nike Adegite rocked some seriously hot heels at the HON event. Her all black outfit allowed others aspects of her look such as the shoes, her bold coif and red lippie to shine through.
Simple yet interesting look from Nwando Ozobia. Ivory and black is always a winning combination.
Though the HON event was a daytime event, some guests went for evening looks. Laide Agbaje wore a strapless dress with a layered shirt. She accessorized with a pearl necklace and python heels. Her front braid hairstyle added an interesting dimension to her look.
Sometimes, a simple dress with an interesting detail is all it takes to be red carpet ready. Dayo Balogun wore a shift dress with ruffled details, she paired her dress with red shoes to match her red nails and earrings as well.
LBD, layered necklace, metallic heels and standout clutch. It works!
We already analyzed this look in BN Pick Your Fave this week. Lillian Unachukwu rocked this Karen Millen dress and she rocked it well.
Lola Maja knows what works for her body type. The beauty entrepreneur always accentuates her figure with waist clinching belts and corsets. This fitted flower print black dress is another winning look from Lola.
Simple and chic by Biola Esaro. Biola’s outfit is very event appropriate and she rocks it well.
While Ada went for an all black look, Toyin mixed things up in a bronze top paired with dark bootcut jeans and a tan clutch.
Noble Igwe of 360Nobs.com was looking rather dapper at the HON event. His navy blue suit with white piping paired with a pink shirt and black shoes had an upscale nautical feel. Overall, a good look from Nobs.
We love, love, love Jania Ochonogor‘s outfit, the ruffled white shirt and the blue trousers. Wish she had gone with a different coloured bag though.
If you read BN often, you will know we have an extreme fixation with the colour yellow! We love it. So vibrant and beautiful! Bisola Kamson looks gorgeous in this yellow top paired with a black skirt and sandals. Her checkered clutch is a great addition to the look.
Lots of popping colour from Ijeoma Aso. She paired her fitted watercolour dress with nude pumps.
Linda Mesrob is almost always in jeans. However, she keeps things interesting with bright coloured tops and bold accessories. Her purple asymmetric top paired with jeans and a large necklace is a great casual glam look. Her bewelled ‘snake’ sandals completed the look.
Jennifer Obayuwana clearly loves fashion and we love her ‘take no prisoners’ attitude to fashion. Jennifer wore a dress from Lanre DaSilva-Ajayi’s summer 2010 collection. She paired it with a black multi zip Burberry hobo bag and a pair of red statement heels.
Designer, Ugonna Omeruo rocked a pink and blue dress from her new collection. The dramatic shoulders and the embellished bib detail ensures that she stands out. She completed her look with blue pumps and a red carpet ready pink pout.
Lowla Adamson wore a House of Nwocha dress. The layered neckline and short hemline accentuated her petite frame.
NJ Omeruo rocked a dramatic purple cocktail dress by House of Nwocha.
Sometimes, we associate the colour – grey – with weekdays at the office. However, these ladies show that you can make it work during the weekend. Note the use of the colour red at add a splash of vibrancy to the looks.
On the Lagos red carpets, we see lots of ‘pretty’, lots of ‘sexy’- now we get to see something different. Ene Maya Lawani gives us Morticia Addams-esque ‘gothic chic’. The long centre parted hair, the smoky eye makeup, the red lips, the long draped dress along with the red heels and clutch!
RED! The colour of passion. Wana and Ify rocked floor-length red dresses while Keye added a touch of red to her relaxed glam look.
Uju Murphy & Shawn Simmons both wore long fishtail skirts with bold detailing.
Damola and Adeola went for long dresses with girly details such a bold pink flower for Damola and a red bow belt for Adeola.
Wow! Dimeji Alara grabbed the spotlight in this Balmain-eque jacket with its pronounced bold shoulder detail. Great colour palette for the overall look. Love the mix of earth tones with the black shirt and blue shoes.
At this point, Adebayo Oke-Lawal has defined his style. Quirky and interesting with some African flair. The gladiator sandals add a new dimension to his look.
These ladies – Tari, Fafi, Tinuke and Yvonne looked good in a variety of short, feminine looks.
‘African contemporary’ from Gideon, Frank, Henry and Uche.
Ohimai Atafo presented his menswear collection for MAI at the event. MAI is pushing the envelope as per menswear on the Nigerian scene. Sharp tailoring given an edge with the use of bold colours – Ohimai depicts that in his all green attire.
Opeyemi, Veronica and Anita made great use of colour and structure in their red carpet looks.
This was actually one of our favourite looks at the House of Nwocha event! We used to have a thing against tights in Nigeria but when you think about it, we wear jeans, suits and blazers in Nigeria, why cant we wear tights. Jecintha Powell looked glamorous in her snakeskin print top paired with black tights and red accessories.
Latasha, Gbemi, Juwon and Yvonne made excellent use of accessories to transform their looks from casual to glam.
It’s Banky and he is capable!
