Boko Haram Threatens More Media Houses via YouTube: Punch, Daily Sun, Vanguard, Guardian, Nation, Tribune, National Accord & More | Video of ThisDay Newspaper Bombing

Published

 on

On Thursday April 26th 2012, the radical Islamic sect, Boko Haram, carried out a shocking attack on what can be described as an unexpected target –  a media house. ThisDay Newspaper offices in Kaduna and Abuja were attacked by suicide bombers leaving six people dead and several others injured.

After claiming responsibility for the attack, the group said it would attack more media houses and has restated this threat with a video posted on YouTube yesterday, stating the specific media houses they plan to target. They include Voice of America (Hausa), Radio France International (Hausa), Punch, Daily Sun, Vanguard, Guardian, Nation, Tribune, National Accord, Leadership, Daily Trust, Peoples Daily and Sahara Reporters.

In an 18-miunte video posted on YouTube under the name ‘Alhaji Mani’, the group said it would attack the offices and staff of these media houses. It threatened to attack Punch, Daily Sun, Vanguard, Guardian, Nation, Tribune, and National Accord soon and warned Leadership, Daily Trust, Peoples Daily and RFI(Radio France international) to be careful in order to prevent an attack.

The video also showed the bombing of ThisDay Newspaper office in Abuja where a jeep was seen driving into the building before it erupted in a ball of flame.

The full transcript of the video is below.

“This is a message from the public awareness department of the Jamatu Ahlis sunnah lil daawati wal jihad, a group engaged in jihad in Nigeria.

“We wish to explain about the attack we carried out on ThisDay newspapers. Some of the reasons why we decided to attack some media houses, especially ThisDay, is because the paper was used in dishonouring our prophet, Mohammad (SAW), during a beauty pageant in Kaduna in November 2002.

“At that time, some people who called themselves leaders of Muslims came out to say they had forgiven those who committed the offence.

“But based on our knowledge, we know that no one has the power to forgive anyone for an offence that God himself has given judgment, especially on an offence that has to do with dishonouring Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

“No one has the power to forgive this type of offence, and the judgment is for such persons to be killed.

“This lady that committed this crime, the judgment on her is to be killed at any opportunity; and the media house is also supposed to be driven out of existence whenever there is a chance to do so.

“We are just getting the opportunity to attack the media house, and we are hoping to continue these attacks until we drive them out of existence.

“It is our hope that Allah (SWT) will help his religion.

“We know that any genuine Muslim must have been deeply touched by the Thisday incident.

“ThisDay newspaper is also leading in helping the government in fighting us, alongside other media houses that we will mention soon.

“Some of the offences of ThisDay and other media outlets include: firstly, during the botched attempt to rescue some kidnapped foreign nationals in Sokoto; these media houses asked us if we have anything to do with the kidnap and we said we have nothing to do with it, yet these media houses reported that we were responsible for the incident, that was a lie against us.

“Secondly, when we sent a video of our leader, Abubakar Shekau, the media houses reported things that our leader did not say, such as that in response to the president’s threat to finish us in three months, we have also threatened to finish the government in three months. But the truth is, nowhere in the video did our leader say what they attributed to him.

“Thirdly, on the purported arrest of Abu Qaqa by the SSS, we have come out to tell them that the person arrested was not Abu Qaqa, yet the media continue to portray us as liars, and even said that our leader had ordered for Abu Qaqa II to be executed, and we are now searching for Abu Qaqa III.

“Recently too, they came out with another lie that one Mohammed Awwal Kontagora was the Abu Qaqa II that was executed, and that even his parents confirmed it, that was just a big lie to convince the world.

“The media also said that we have killed the father of Abu Darda, so as to pass a message to him, because he had leaked our secrets after his arrest by security agencies, and they wanted him to know that he is one of our targets.

“These are all lies, and they are many.

“These media houses have committed a lot of offences that are detrimental to Islam, and we don’t have the power to forgive them. We will take revenge on them by God’s grace, some of these media houses have been categorised into three groups.

“The first group is the likes of ThisDay whose offences are big.

“The second group we will also attack soon are Punch, Daily Sun, Vanguard, Guardian, Nation, Tribune, and National Accord, which are all newspaper houses.

“There is also VOA Hausa radio. All these media houses we will attack them including their staff and offices, by God’s grace.

“VOA Hausa for instance has recently started campaigning for people to support the government against us by exposing us.

“The next group that are on the verge of joining this list who if they are not careful we will attack very soon include, Leadership, Daily Trust, Peoples Daily and RFI(Radio France international).

“There is an online medium known as Saharareporters who have their office in New York, and who have made their site as a platform for attack against Islam. So we are warning them to stop making their site an avenue for attacking Islam, otherwise we will find a way of attacking them too.

“We resorted to using this medium to send our message instead of the normal tele-conference because of the fear by journalists; which made them refuse to conduct the conference.

“We are grateful to God for the success recorded on the attack on Thisday, and we hope to continue such attacks.

“Finally, the government has now resorted to arresting our wives and children and also demolishing our houses, like they did in Biu recently, that is why we have also resolved to start attacking government schools, especially, tertiary ones.

“We promise to demolish 500 buildings for any one of our houses that the government destroys. We have already started with Gombe and Kano.”

This is just sad. We have weak leader in GEJ. What rubbish these idiots are speaking. Have they nor heard of freedom of speech. Any one can say anything about anyone’s religion, and they shouldnt be killed for it. I know there are good muslims, so my good muslim brothers, please beg your brothers to stop shedding innocent bloods. If God is offended leave the fight to him, dont fight for him. I find these actions very disheartening that Nigeria is being slowly destroyed by rascals and mad men trying to use religion as a way to kill people. This is the reason I preferred a military government, because then, these fools wont even have the mouth to talk, lests bomb people.GEJ your cabinet better do something fast. or you will be out of office next term.

So they now have the boldness to boast about places they will attack in the future. It’s the government that allowed this to spiral out of control and i bet they do have any meaningful strategies about how to eliminate these idiots. Where is the Military and what are they doing. You can’t tell me that these morons are too sophisticated for the Military to crush. This is so shameful.

The time has come for every concerned Nigerian to turn to God in prayer.
He is bigger and mightier than Boko Haram;and the Government of the day
Need to wake up from their sleep and take decisive steps that will put a stop
To this madness. But one thing I know for sure is:Good always prevail over evil.
Boko Haram will soon become history.

I honestly think this has gone on long enough. We are not a nation that kills our fellow country man through terrorism. Like as if Nigeria does not have enough troubles. what we don’t need is terrorism to add to the list of worries.
I would say the reason for this is because we constantly allow uneducated and weak individuals to rule our country. This is why our country will continue to be the laughing stock of the western world. With our God given resources, if only utilised, would make us one of the richest respected countries in the world. This cannot be achieved with the current economic and political instability rocking the nation. We are blessed with rich natural and human capital resources, great family values and so much diversity that would make us so much greater. All we need is to first of all stop electing leaders with myopic minds that will never lead the country forward. Leaders who can’t put a stop to this nonsense.

Nigeria is quickly becoming irrelevant globally because we are quickly being recognised as a country that can never move forward and all we would end up doing is killing our selves for no good reason . Not being recognised for positivity within the continent is bad enough , if this becomes global the level damage to the county’s reputation cannot be overemphasised. This in turn would have unimaginable effects on the country’s economy.

I appeal to the Government that if they would like to continue to live in the level affluence they enjoy now for longer, it is best to nip this problem at its roots.

    Psalm 92 Verses 5 -9

O LORD, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep. A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this. When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed for ever: But thou, LORD, art most high for evermore. For, lo, thine enemies, O LORD, for, lo, thine enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.

If they know that they are strong as they profess, let them make themselves known or be visible so that they and the security people can engage themselves in battle instead of hiding somewhere, covering faces to attack innocent people. God help us and deliver Nigeria.

This is chilling and unbelievable..they have literally declared war on the Nigerian State. They were watching as the jeep reached the target ..this day ..and filmed it..this shows their confidence and planing ability. As a Muslim I don’t agree AT ALL with what they are doing. Why kill innocents anyhow? and attack xtians anyhow?…setting us against our Xtian brothers? Especially in the north forgetting that we would live together till the end of time?..BH ..you do terrible harm to our noble religion and our country. The Prophet NEVER told people to kill other people let alone do so and gloat over it. For the State..this is war..using the military and police is one thing..using more robust intelligence and infiltrating their ranks is a must. They have some organization and supervision..find out these and neutralize them. Hunt their leaders out. Carry out forensic on blown up suicide bombers etc..damnnn BH

The Nigerian media did actually give BH a profile and used their stupid pranks to cause a lot of scaremongering. If I said I felt bad about the attacks and threats to the media houses, I would be lying. I don’t like the attacks on the innocent and Christians but the media houses in Nigeria have virtually been bought over by politicians and high net worth individuals. Goodluck to them!

Nigerians get afraid too easily, and will tolerate everything. This is not only about God, it’s about time another protest against the government is done. If Nigerians were speaking against the government instead partying all over, the problems in nigeria will not have escalated this much. Boko Haram are nothing, and nobody should be scared of them. The government can take them out if they want to. But, they know the big sponsors are in the government. IBB, Atiku, should not be walking around freely if Nigerian government is being honest with themselves. Nigerian government refuse to focus on important issues like building their military, and infrastructure. It’s a shame to see a country like Nigeria with so much potentials to go downhill like this.

Islam is a religion of peace, and does not encourage violence or killing of innocent people just like that. Nigeria is our country both Muslims and Christians, we should always learn to live in peace with one another. We are not in support of what is happening NO. Those who consider Muslims as terrorist are making great mistake. Terrorists can be found in any religion depending on condition. Both Muslims and Christians lost their brothers and sisters, and nobody knows who is next. We are all educated citizens of this great nation, nobody is above anybody in anyway. We should pray to God to bring an end to this sad event. Our appeal to our Government is to try and bring an end to this. Nobody should consider any part of this country as not educated, if you do so then, you are a fool. Just pray to God for solution.

  32. NONSENSE

    May 3, 2012 at 8:17 pm

    @ USMAN
Islam is a religion of peace? Very funny. Anybody in their right mind know that’s opposite of the truth. Terrorists can be found in any religion depending on condition? are you out of your mind. All the terrorist acts around the world have been performed by Muslims. All I can say is, you are one delusional person.
The Nigerian government refuse to take actions. They all about themselves, as long as they are secured, protected they don’t care about the people of Nigeria. I have family members who lost their lives to this, and it angers me that the so called President of Nigeria is not taking much needed actions to stop this from blowing out of proportion.
