“Obasanjo’s house that’s razed by fire will become more beautiful” Ex-President Obasanjo’s Comical Reaction to House Fire

On Thursday 27th December 2012, it was reported that a section of the Abeokuta Hilltop mansion of former President Olusegun Obasanjo was gutted by fire. The fire which was said to have started barely 20 minutes after Obasanjo left the house for an undisclosed place destroyed computers and office appliances.

According to Punch, a source who pleaded anonymity said the fire could have been caused by an electrical fault.

One of the aides to the former President noticed smoke billowing from a section of the mansion about 4.10pm. The aide was said to have raised the alarm to attract the attention of other occupants of the building, including security officials, who quickly moved to stop the fire from spreading to other part of the house.

As news of the fire got out, journalists gathered at the house and Obasanjo also returned after receiving phone calls about the fire. However, instead of receiving a briefing on the cause of the fire, he decided to make jest about the incident.

Speaking in Yoruba, the former President told journalists to go to town and sing about the fire. “I hope all of you understand Yoruba. You can see that only the secretary’s office was gutted by fire and not the entire house. So, go and report it properly.”

He then burst into singing in Yoruba and in his usual comical and jocular manner, he sang, Ile Obasanjo to jo, ewa lobusi, meaning (Obasanjo’s house that’s razed by fire will become more beautiful).

what makes him a yeye man please? Is it the fact that he refuse to cry for all his enemies to see or what? Weldone Mr. Obasanjo, you created no room for pity party. The best tactic to confuse and put ill wishers to shame.

Of course! GEJ & PDP will see to that. I’m sure N2b will be enough to renovate the secretary’s office.

Corrupt or not, I wish it was Obasanjo at the helm of affairs- he would have dealt with Boko Haram big time, unlike that black hat wearer currently masquerading as our president!

How won’t he sing? On the (very unlikely) off-chance that Owo Naija has finished in his pocket, there’s always his son in Aso Rock to take care of things.

Sorry your house got burnt sir, especially this holiday season.
But, I don’t get it when people portray you as a saint. Soon, they will be singing praises to Babangida, too.

Well, as for me I will not want to dwell on hw corrupt or not dat OBJ is bcos for all those commenting, I’m sure dat if u were given d opportunity u wld do far worse than he did ( if a mad man is given a how will he not drag it to himself in an attempt to till d soil?) So pls hatters shush. Besides I think u all hav 4gotten so soon his acheivements. Let me remind , opperation feed d nation, d billions of dollars he left in our foreign reserve, b4 it was squandered, and lastly dat which affects all of us. Still guessing? D fone in ur hand dat u used in sending ur messages.
Well, I for one think he is a fine leader, a true general, and a man to emulate. Yet d best president we r yet to have.
    Baba dance on o jare
