We know we have quite a number of readers who are movie buffs and we thought to introduce a movie review segment for them. We’ve teamed up with the guys at Sodas & Popcorn to achieve that. Please let us know if this is a feature you’d like to see more of and if you have any movies which you’d like to have reviewed please let us know. Also, please let us know if you’ve seen the movie, and if you agree or disagree with the review…with reasons too. This is supposed to be a fun feature for our movie buffs, so let’s have some fun!

Directors: Evan Goldberg, Seth Rogen

Writers: Seth Rogen (screenplay), Evan Goldberg (screenplay)

Stars: James Franco, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel.

Synopsis
While attending a party at James Franco’s house, a couple of Hollywood Celebrities are faced with the apocalypse and somehow have to rely on each other to survive and make it to Heaven.

The Script
This Is the End is about the apocalypse and how (unsurprisingly) most of celebrities we know get left behind and have to survive while hiding away in James Franco’s house where better part of the movie is set. It’s funny how most of this movie was shot in one location but you hardly feel it, because the acting and the comedy takes your mind off it. I found this to be one of the most original scripts of this year. The fact that I was watching characters who have made us laugh over the years playing their actual selves made it really cool.

Errr, maybe with an exception of Micheal Cera who plays the total opposite of himself, which was high on cocaine and was completely hilarious. We will get to his performance later. Let’s focus on the script for now.

This is supposed to be a cast of the funniest guys in Hollywood at the moment, but the movie wasn’t the best it could have been. They did drop a lot of hilarious jokes and references from their previously great and crappy movies but for some reason I can’t lay my hands on, it didn’t do it totally for me. But nevertheless, it is an original script which is well written and was totally worth my time.

The Directing
Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg who have previously co-written a couple of movies like Pineapple Express, Superbad and Green Hornet, and have proven to be a cool writing team, teamed up to direct their first movie in This is The End. Personally, I feel this is a great effort for a raunchy, explicit and dirty kind of comedy. Oh, by the way, your kids shouldn’t hear some of the things going on in the movie so this is a strictly adult affair. No kidding, this movie isn’t for kids younger than 18.

I liked the editing of the movie. You can predict that a whole lot of scenes were cut out due to so much fun being had by the actors. Even with a narrow budget of 32 million dollars for the entire movie, the visuals in the movie seemed really good. That’s the cool thing about Seth & Evan. They’re really bankable. Looking at the cost and income of some of their previous movies like Super Bad & Pineapple Express, you can tell. Although they asked for a much larger budget, the studio wasn’t gonna take a risk. So they had to make do with this. Cool effort folks.

The Acting
WOW!…Where do we start… Michael Cera had sort of the best cameo appearance here. Maybe he could have featured longer, he still was able to show that there’s more to him than we saw in Scott Pilgrim.

Jonah Hill’s money ball introduction, Channing Tatum’s character, Emma Watson’s rape fighting campaign…these guys were great. ALL OF THEM. I was really impressed. What I felt about the acting was this came kinda easy to them because they had some level of their personalities in it. I also really loved about the collabo of James Franco & Danny McBride.

The Verdict
This is a really fun movie, and it is quite original. If you enjoyed Pineapple Express, Superbad and the adult comedy trends and series, then you will love this one. So it gets a Soda and Popcorn from me.
