Trends Ahoy! Get in on the Haute Trends from the Glitz Africa Fashion Week 2013
The 2013 Glitz Africa Fashion Week just wrapped up in Ghana and boy did the designers put on a show!
They were loud, creative, and colorful and sported some of the seasons must-have trends. The trends we noticed and believe you need to have knowledge pf are – the Crop top, Short dresses, Shine and Shimmer, Prints and the Jumpsuit.
Most designer’s showcased at least one of these trends in their shows and some did them all. Check them out.
The Cropped Top
The cropped top has definitely proven to be a trend that is here to stay.
It has been reinvented to be clean and classic hence I predict a few more season of this look. A lot of designers showcased this look pairing it with high-waist bottoms, making the look clean and wearable for a variety of occasions. I also love the colors and fabrics with which this look was showcased in during Glitz.
This is a must replicate look this season.
The Short Dress
Short dresses were truly in every show. Lace, chiffon, Ankara etc were all created in short dresses and were done well. There was a dress for every occasion and every color. Longer hems are definitely in style right now but this fashion week claimed the shorter hem, showing that showing some leg is the way to go.
Shine and Shimmer
Glitz and glam, was definitely one of the major themes at the shows.
Shine and shimmer in the form of sequins, metallic threading and shinny fabrics made the shows a hit. There were so many glitzy pieces that shined on the runaway, making it impossible for you not to create your own shine and shimmer look.
Patterns and Prints
What would a good African fashion show be without patterns and an array of prints?
Various Ankara designs dawned the runways. Most were loud and vibrate but a few were subtle but overall well executed. Patterns were not only displayed on Ankara but we also saw it on other fabrics. Every silhouette you can think of was recreated in a print making this trend the strongest throughout the shows and definitely the must have of the season.
Jumpsuits
There is something about a good jumpsuit that is just sexy. I love a great jumpsuit and the designers at the Glitz show do as well. The jumpsuit was introduced in a variety of gorgeous fabrications. It was the standout item and those who showcased it during their shows made sure to give different variations of it so anyone can wear it, no matter your preferred style.
Ruffles
We saw some ruffles last season, but these designers truly believed the trend needed to continue, displaying a vast number of ruffled pieces on the runway.
Ruffles were placed everywhere, on the shoulders, on tops, skirts and dresses. It was definitely ruffle overload for me but these designers clearly loved it and did a good job translating the trend.
And there you have it lovelies, what do you think about Glitz African Fashion Week 2013 and which of these trends would you rock?
