We’re always happy to showcase the achievement of people who push boundaries and strive for more irrespective of the challenges or inhibitions that surround them. Kenyan pediatric heart surgeon, Betty Gikonyo is one of those people. She is the founder of Karen Hospital, outside of Nairobi. Overcoming the challenges of finances, she started Karen Hospital, geared at providing health care for young children with heart diseases.

She speaks to CNN on African Voices on who she is, her work, her driving force and her family values. Betty Gikonyo does not see obstacles, she see opportunities and she takes them.

We’re so proud of this woman whose work is bringing smiles to children in Kenya.
