The Borno State government has given N16 million cash to families of slain policemen who died during a Boko Haram attack in Ngala last month.

The money was donated to provide relief to the affected families, pending when their death benefits would be released, Vanguard reports.

Lawal Tanko, the state’s commissioner of  police, disbursed the cash to the families during a ceremony in Maiduguri.

“This is a sad moment to us. We are here to witness the issuance of N1 million cash donated by Borno government to each family of the 16 policemen who died during an insurgent attack in Gamboru-Ngala.

The state government felt it is wise to provide some relief to the families of the fallen heroes to lessen their hardship, pending when their death benefits will be released.

Fortunately, the Inspector-General of Police (I-G) had already directed the immediate payment of the benefits to the families,” he said.
