IMG-20150825-WA0024Job Title
CEO of Sarayah Beauty |Spa Therapist Village Hotels

What do you do specifically?
I juggle!!! Like many other women, I have taken on a number of roles. I am mobile beauty Therapist with a range of homemade bath and body products including scrubs and moisturisers. I am also a Spa Therapist at the Village hotel in Leeds on the weekends. Finally my ‘9 to 5’ role is as a Commercial Manager at a hosted Telecommunications organisation.
My passion is being a beauty therapist! This is my favourite role and the one I could not do without.

How long have you been at the job?
I have been a beauty therapist for a little over 4 years now.

Highlights of your job
Working as a spa therapist is one of the most rewarding jobs ever. It is very fast paced; as one client leaves the room, the next appointment is waiting. You have to be on point with timing or you end up working through your lunch. It’s back to back!!! The day goes super quickly! I get to meet new people almost every hour. There is never a dull moment at the spa. As a mobile therapist being invited to give treatments at pamper parties.

Oh and Real Talk Fridays with my Instagram friends and clients. I could go on and on…

I would say the most rewarding aspect of my job is the satisfaction of each client saying ” Thank you, that was lovely”. Knowing you have made someone feel less stressed and more positive about life in general is a great feeling in itself.

IMG-20150825-WA0010Downside of your job
Idiots calling me up or coming to the spa in search of extras *rolls eyes*. At least at the Spa we are thoroughly protected from these pervs. As a mobile therapist when I get a call from a male asking for a ‘wink’ massage. In a bid to be professional at all times, I say, “Unfortunately sir, we do not offer those sorts of services. Might I suggest your local brothel? Thanks for your enquiry, Goodbye” Number blocked and life goes on.

If you weren’t a beauty therapist what would you be doing?
Hmmm, I would be bothering my husband with questions like. “Do you think I would have made a good Beauty therapist” /” Why did I not pursue it?”

Sarayah york IMG-20150825-WA0018 IMG-20150825-WA0015 On a scale of 1 to 10 how would you grade your skill set at this job
I am the best in the business! No one can give you a more relaxing treatment. No one! Just joking, I would say an 8, I feel there is so much more I could learn. I would love to travel the world and learn different massage techniques from different parts of the world.

Are you living career dream?
Absolutely!

We absolutely adore working Mums! It’s impressive to see how Bolatito handles clients who want to take things too far.  Let’s take a closer look at her average day at the spa.

The fact that she called people idiots already telld me not to patronise her, no wonder ive never heard about her spa services

The “idiots” she is referring to is men (or women) who think that spa services include sexual favours. They deserve to be called idiots, right?

      September 10, 2015 at 1:37 pm

Wrong. While they not only derserve to be called idiots, being interviewed as a professional calls for some decorum. This interview was definitely not the place to refer to anyone as an idiot. I run a business myself and I do run across a number of idiots. A better choice of words with the added humor which she definitely has would have sufficed.

Well…BN… considering that there are actually ‘adult’ services spas in existence elsewhere- and it is legal, i.e. spas that offer the ‘extras’ plus even options for adult nude pools, the people calling might simply be making enquiries with no intention of insulting you, I doubt they would dial up a chef to make same enquiries…..I am neither the customer service person nor the therapist in question, so I don’t know the details or approach of the callers, but if it is a simple enquiry then a simple explanation of your services will do. no need for extra insult. if they ass insult, then feel free to pull the bets off….

Well done to her though, for roughing it in this climate….not for the fainthearted.

Not so. At least not in an interview.

I apologise that the word “Idiot” offends you. It was said out of frustration of trying to run a clean business and I get people call me and ask straight out “How much for one hour F***” Its upsetting, so this is what I though of when I used that word. I still respond to them professionally and never ever insult or name call clients even when they are wrong. . but I agree , I should not have used that word. .Apologies to anyone offended by this.

Hahaha! You’re a hoot … And your hubs must be so glad he skipped the 50-question interrogation that was in store for him if you didn’t pursue your dream. ?

Those idiots looking for massages with extras remind me of that one episode of Friends with Phoebe’s gross client. My sister, it’s the worldwide malady of masseuses.

Since you say that you’re the best in the game, we shall put feelers out and test that claim to the fullest measure!! Just joking. No, I’m not. Actually, I am. Or not. Just prepare for our reviews. ?

    Nice read! ??

Yes, it was a very interesting read. 4.5 hours sleep a day, chai I need to sleep less.

    • Sarayah Beauty

      September 10, 2015 at 2:45 pm

Lolll….he is lucky indeed…lol…..Being a masseus is hard o, very hard, especially when they are not upfront about what they want, they just say back massage and then you get there and they switch it up on you and be saying “no, I will like a back massage with a happy ending” lol. Its a thunderstorm of a market. But one learns how to laugh about it, But hey ho…its all good, every career has its downsides. I am glad the upsides of this one outweighs the downsides 🙂 I wish to be the best o…I only wish…

I think she is well within her right to refer to people like that as idiots. Although, I feel she was only joking as the whole sentence seemed light hearted to me. Also the question was what are the downsides of what you do. You cant judge someones choice of words without living their life. I like reading honest interviews like this, were people are themselves and not fake because they want to promote business. When it is not job interview, this is a blog and should be read as such.
Sarayah please stop apologising for your choice of word just keep working hard and keeping chasing your dreams be the best you can be

Come-on People, she used “idiot” for our benefit. Be more fun people.

You have a very big opportunity to sell ur market on a big platform such as BN and u decide to mess it all up. Thats why customer service is dead in Naija. So much aggression and frustration. There shud be customer service course provided ASAP. If a customer calls for a 3some, leave all ur anger and fustration at home and answer politely like a pro. Kindly explain that you do not provide such services unfortunately and go ahead and explain your services and hope the customer will patronise u very soon. That’s all. No one is an idiot. Geezzzzz.

    • taye

      September 10, 2015 at 4:40 pm

If you know Tito personally then you’d understand her sense of humour, according to what I comprehended she only referred to the annoying callers as idiots, not that she called them idiots when they called. Proud of you T, God bless you real good.
