FFK on 2016 budget: Buhari is Spending Money Like a Drunken Sailor

Femi Fani-Kayode - August 2014 - 01

Femi Fani- Kayode is not happy with the 2016 budget President Buhari presented to the National Assembly yesterday.

According to Vanguard, he released a statement expressing his displeasure:

The 2016 budget is fueled by insincerity, shrouded in fantasy, built on tall dreams and spawned by deceit, ignorance and the illusion of change. It is bloated, unrealistic, expensive, cosmetic and it will not result in anything good.

In order to fund part of the budget the government intends to borrow money and this will throw our country into even greater debt. What a tragedy this is given the fact that in 2007 Nigeria was debt-free. The Buhari administration is spending money like a drunken sailor and they are borrowing as if there is no tomorrow, mortgaging the future of our nation and our children.

We need far more fiscal discipline and seriousness than that if our government really wishes to improve the economy and better the lives of ordinary people.

Meanwhile the Federal Government has said that President Goodluck Jonathan is responsible for today’s long fuel queues even though he left office 7 months ago.

They seem to have forgotten that in 2012 it was their group, led by Bola Tinubu, Nasir El Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi and President Buhari himself that aggressively opposed deregulation and almost brought the whole country to a standstill with protests and riots all over the place in their efforts to prevent the government from removing the oil subsidy.

Had it not been for their pettiness, lack of understanding, shortsightedness and double standards the subsidy would have been removed three years ago and fuel queues would have been a thing of history. Sadly they lacked the foresight to appreciate the virtues of that policy and today they have the nerve to blame Jonathan for the mess that they themselves essentially created.

They have been in power for 7 months now: it is time for them to step up to the plate, start taking responsibility for their own actions, do a better job and stop blaming Jonathan for their own miserable and avoidable failures.

So the country was debt free in 2007. Who now amassed the recent debt?
FFK should go and look for a day time job. He has too much time on his hands to spew trash.

Mr. PDP Campaign Director, something tells me it was you who collected N240m and told GEJ you were giving it to a ‘popular blogger’……. I can clearly recall all your ‘Drunken Sailor’ rants during the campaigns.

Sometimes, you need to separate the messenger from the message, and, for your own good.

    Wake up.

Barr Olukayode please tell us something else, who now borrowed the money’s after 2007, Buhari I guess, please spare me the nonsense, even household borrow when they are in dire straits, if the economy was healthy when Buhari took over there would be no need to borrow, when you have surplus or adequate funds you don’t borrow, so Fani help us by returning some of the loot you have stashed away; as it would serve the economy better than you using it for champagne binges.

Thank you for your article Mr Femi Fani-Kayode

If you care to read the responses to your comments, majority are against you and I wonder why?

I dare say that 16 years of rule by your party, PDP, may have brought us to this. You guys never had our interest at heart.

Now that you no longer have access to (shared) money, you appear to be ranting…

You have a history which can’t be erased or forgotten. The likes of you, Bode George, Governor Fayose, Abati, Dariye (who skipped bail in the UK in September 2004 following his arrest on money-laundering charges. He is currently a serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria) and more, have helped mortgage the future of unborn Nigerians. That’s cruel.

Please keep quiet, it may help what’s left of your image. That said, I doubt you’ll do this because you’re too far gone.

I swear comprehension is a big problem for Nigerians, even the “learned” ones are not left out. Why don’t you read the message and attack its content objectively.

Its really easy to decipher people like FFK. They are rather vacuous human beings who conceal their lack of intellect with big words and ‘seemingly’ intelligible words. He courts controversy just to remain relevant, when its clear for all to see he has NOTHING to offer.

Back to his actual critic (or lack thereof ) of the budget, how may I ask the all knowing FKK, is the government going to achieve its lofty goals without borrowing at a time when oil is doing 38 odd dollars per barrel and may even fall lower. Borrowing to revitalize critical sectors of the economy is a no brainer. Are we to continue without Power, without roads, without infrastructure, without developing our health care and schools? America today is the most indebted country in the world. When you borrow for capital projects you are able to develop the economy and even recoup back in taxes and FDI inflows to your country. Is FKK really saying we should leave all the sectors in the country begging for investments after years of consistent neglect by his party PDP.

Talking of spending money like a drunken sailor, need any one remind this cretin how his former boss wasted the country’s money (You and I’s money) on his failed venture of reelection. In proper climes he and his boss would be in jail by now. His boss is the Nigerian president to have recorded HIGHEST receipts from oil dollars since our independence. His administration enjoyed unprecedented high oil prices (over USD120 per barrel ) for many many years. What did his boss do with these resources? Under his boss, fuel subsidy claims increased over a 10 FOLD even though our consumption could never have increased in that margin. His boss and his fellow Niger-Delta sympathisers raped this country through stolen crude, dubious pipeline protection contracts, dubious amnesty programme and fraudulent subsidy claims, yet this dunce has the nerve to critisize this administration.

I’ll advise him to keep his trap shut if he has nothing meaningful to say.
