The Naked Convos - Payment Event

On Sunday 10th of April, 2016, The Naked Convos rolled out the first set of payments to contributors on the TNC platform. To mark the occasion, the recipients were invited to a celebratory lunch amidst food, drinks and open expression.

The Naked Convos is an online platform for open and honest expression. TNC was founded in 2010 with the tagline, “Express You“, intending to be the foremost community for expression where Nigerians with opinions on any topic whatsoever publish their views and engage members of the public.

Early this year, TNC announced its intention to begin paying all contributors on the site. This ambitious announcement followed the decision to open up the site to the general public moving TNC from just a blog to becoming the preeminent online open-publishing platform indigenous to Nigeria.

With already over 200 contributors and an average of 40 engaging comments for every published post, The Naked Convos has indeed carved a unique space for itself on the internet, filling the need for expression and community among the youth. The Naked Convos will continue to roll out payments to its contributors throughout the year. Contributors will be notified and can request payout of their earnings once they reach the pre-communicated payment threshold.

Speaking at the event, Olawale Adetula, founder and editor-in-chief of The Naked Convos said:

“When we decided to monetize contribution to TNC, some said we didn’t need it because whether we pay or not, people will contribute because of the awesome brand we have built over the years. However, building a culture of open expression is only one part of our vision. The other part is ensuring those of us who are really good at telling these stories get some kind of reward for it. Whether it’s fiction, a real life personal experience or just your views on a topic, it must have taken you some time to put it down in words. If you did that so well that you were able to connect with people who read it, I believe you deserve some kind of reward. From the feedback and smiles on the faces of the contributors here today, I’m positive we are heading in the right direction.”

To become a contributor, all you have to do is visit the submissions page on the TNC website and upload your post. Once your submission is accepted for publishing on the site, you will be sent login details, which grants you access to the admin section for contributors. Through the backend, you can submit subsequent posts, view the performance of your submissions and also monitor your earnings.
