As the year comes to a close, we want to thank every member of the BellaNaija community come who shared their year with us. We made a call for you to send us your stories. {Click here if you missed it} and you did. As we share the last of the Epilogues today, we hope that 2017 To catch up on the previous stories shared this month, click HERE.

Just like everybody does when the year is coming to an end, I sat on a lonely Wednesday evening and drafted a “new year resolution”. My resolution was not like the normal type people wrote, it was more about finding myself. The truth is, I was okay with everything about my life except from the spiritual aspect and love life. 2016 kicked off badly for me. I had an argument with my mum and I was pissed. That aside, my love life was indeed the major event or should I say happening in 2016. I was determined to find love at all costs… so I came up with a slogan “steal bae 2016” funny right? But the funniest thing happened, I fell for someone in my secondary school. OMG!!!

He is so fine, tall, funny, friendly, he can dance, sing and has the ability to do silly things that looked pretty. I knew I was falling head over heels for him but I couldn’t stop, he had the ability to make me fall for him every single day.

What more could I ask for? I felt like a princess in my own fairy tale. Just as things were about to get rosy, we had a slight disagreement and from there we started drifting apart slowly until we became strangers. Back to zero point! It was then I realized that I had fallen for him to the extent that I could not eat, sleep, smile, laugh without hearing from him but then it was already too late. My heart was already broken and so was my fairy tale. I am not the kind of person to be all grumpy and sad about things for a long period of time so I did the strangest thing, I channeled all the pain, anger, bitterness, sadness, emotions that I couldn’t show, tears I couldn’t spill and actions that I couldn’t reveal… into the one thing I love doing: TALKING!

I joined the Sunday school unit in church, organized spiritual activities and started a business. It was then I realized I had so much to do, so much to achieve and so much to gain.
To cut 366 days short, 2016 taught me that;
1. You never find love when you search for it
2. To live life and not just exist
3. I can be better with my spiritual life if I work toward being better
4. Love is a beautiful thing
5. To direct my emotions and anger to the right thing

Now to the things I tried out in 2016,
1. Fell in love
2. Got my heart broken
3. Got closer to God
4. Got drunk(I’m not making it a habit)
5. Made new friends
6. Wrote my final year project myself
7. Graduated from University
8. Opened up
9. Started serving my country(NYSC)

Finally, I am not walking into 2017 a single lady, I actually did find love towards the end of the year.

Awww… so happy for you. However, can’t say same about myself. I lost love in the most horrible way. As we go into the new year, I’m so afraid to hope to find love; so I have given up…..COMPLETELY. Safer not to be expectant, I think.

I found love too in the last month of 2016. And I’m hopeful that this is the one that will stand the test of time. Best wishes to us all.
