How 12-year Old Boy Allegedly Tried to Poison Classmate over First Position in Lagos

How 12-year Old Boy Allegedly Tried to Poison Classmate over First Position in Lagos

The family of an 11-year old female student of Lekki-British International School is calling for a proper mental evaluation of her classmate, aged 12, who allegedly tried to poison her because she had beaten him to first position in previous terms.

Facebook user Abimbola shared a statement purportedly made by the female student’s aunt.

The boy had allegedly broken into the school’s laboratory, took sulphuric acid and ethanol, and poured into the girl’s water bottle. Fortunately, his classmates saw him and reported the matter.

The boy allegedly owned up to the crime, adding that he had been planning it for sometime.

The statement by the girl’s aunt said that the boy also disclosed that his first plan was to put feces into her juice which had screw cap everyday. That plan failed after she stopped bringing that particular juice to school.

The school is yet to respond to an email sent to them on the matter.

However, Punch reports that an official of the school who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that the boy had been expelled.

“The boy has been expelled with immediate effect. The girl is in school and she is fine. We have zero tolerance for such misbehaviour,” the official was quoted as saying.

Read the aunt’s statement below:

Hmmm…good morning parents..I will come back on this matter of the 12 year old who attempted to kill his classmate with a broader perspective..deeper than this parent just analysed. The child in question is my niece…been following the trend of events since the incident precisely on Wednesday 14th June 2017 at about 1.30pm. It will amaze you that the school in question still has the boy in school…no mental case assessment, he was allowed to write the very same exams he had tactfully planned on executing his classmate for so dat she doesn’t take the first position again , sitting right in the same classroom! He had stolen from the lab sulphuric acid and ethanol and mixed both into the girl’s water bottle for her to drink after lunch. When asked, he said he had been planning this since second term..his first plot had been to put feces gradually on a daily basis into her screwed bottle juice that she usually came to school with. But with God’s invention, on his first day of that plot, she didn’t come to school with that screw top he changed the plan.

After this incidence..upon enquiry, the girl’s mother was told that he was to resume a mere one week suspension next week after exams are over on Friday which is tomorrow..she insisted that the punishment would only have reinforced the boy…as they should have started from expulsion and maybe work it down to a term’s suspension after proper evaluation of d boy’s mental state(if the school still thought it was necessary to retain such an evil mind in the school that is). However, to her greatest shock..the owner of the school cornered her daughter to coerce her to write a false statement that she provoked the boy to such an evil act!!!! How evil can one get?!!!!

That the boy looked really hence the victim as always in Nigeria has become the culprit! Simply because she still wants to count her money in millions as school fees???!!!! What more does a pupil have to do to get expelled from such a prestigious school or any school at all?

Should a murder have to take place first? If he actually had succeeded in his carefully calculated plans..of which he had a list of other intelligent kids he planned to kill after he succeeds in dis one! A set of parents would have been left without their very brilliant daughter had God not rescued the situation through the intervention of the two boys that caught him in the act. And such a child is still walking d school as I speak to you boldly whilst the victim can no longer drink anything in d school for fear of being poisoned.

To correct the view of the initial writer..and this only makes it worse..the kids are in Js1!! The girl joined them after a few weeks in first he had only been opportune to have a glimpse of the first place in the continuous assessment tests before she came along and made first place first and second term in a row, hence this plot to kill her before third term exams begins.

One would think that the school authorities will be very concerned about what is going on in the mind of this child and immediately remand him to psychological and psychiatric help! But alas the parent of the victim is being accused by the school management of wanting to destroy the life of the boy by asking that he be expelled and made to write an apology.

An apology came after one week of the incidence after it was vehemently demanded for. I am appalled at the rot and decay of any form of value system that has exhumed from one of Nigeria’s supposed best schools… Lekki British International School.

The best thing for the parents of the girl is to take her out of the school and place her in another good school. When God shows you things like this it means He is telling you something! As for the boy who tried to kill his classmate because of first position, I feel they need to look closely at his parents in order to understand why he would be having such a do or die mindset! It is true he is very young but for him to have this kind of mindset means his parents encouraged it either knowingly or unknowingly and the psychiatric evaluation first has to start with his parents if he can really get the help he needs,

Why should she leave. Why shouldn’t the boy leave

Why do we always think of leaving as the first option? If anyone should leave it should be the boy. After evaluation and expelled, he needs to be watched in the psyche hospital.

Please your grammar is too much. You and I know that he had to have learned to “put something in your enemy’s drinking water” from mom and/or dad. To him, killing the “enemy” is the only way out. Not working harder. THat is deep reflection of the household he comes from. Maybe his popsi and momsi have poisoned people in their offices for promotion.

What is happening in this world? A 12 year old planning murder because someone did better than him? How about studying harder to beat her? And I hope he is taken for psychiatric evaluation too. We parents need to be very watchful of our kids.

You are so correct, however, it seems that young people of nowadays are competitive to the point of murder. Very, very crazy indeed…

The parent should make a formal report to the police. It could pressure the parents to get the boy the help he needs and save innocent lives. What happens when he grows up if his problems aren’t addressed now?

And one will think it’s only poor, disadvantaged humans who reason this way. . .Lekki British ko. That boy has been watching a lot of nollywood movies. Good he’s been expelled.

I don’t think that any, “reasonable” person, poor or rich will think this way.

The making of a serial psychotic killer? The parents of the boy needs to be very careful and seek help for him fast. First his classmate, next his siblings and others? Who is to say he hasn’t experimented on animals or even human before? The boy needs to be evaluated and given necessary treatment!

@Segi my thoughts exactly…at this small age he must be checked and managed properly, Obviously he is a very jealous person and cannot curtail himself

This has nothing to do with Nollywood o, the boy has some deep seated psychological problems, which need to be attended. Thank God the girl was not poisoned. It seems incredible that this is happening. the school should take precautions on their laboratories and how did he see the school reports

    This is indeed shocking.
I don’t know why i also get the vibe that this boy couldn’t stand a girl beating him in class, maybe patriarchy is already being embedded in his system from home.
in another case, he already has a personality disorder, the boy needs to be expelled and go through a series of mental health solutions, education can wait.
he shouldn’t go back to that school, i would be very scared for my daughter if i was my mum that a person who threatened her life is still in that school with her.
biko a word is enough for the wise.

But why are you guys implying Nollywood movies?all the serial killers in America and the Uk also watch them? or don’t you think something is wrong with the mind? what we should be investigating is why such a dark, warped mind in a child? serial killers start planning and thinking a long time before executing. He has an issue, not nollywood

This is what is caused by too much parental pressure on young children to come first in class. When the pressure to please mum n dad becomes unbearable, the child will be pushed into unwholesome practices. Parents let us learn to strike a balance between creating healthy competition and pushing our children beyond reasonable limits.

the shocking part to me is that the girl was made to write a letter stating that she provoked the boy into wanting to poison her, like seriously!!!!!!! for such a big school, no psychatrist attached? talk about the boy looking innocent or the girl’s parents wanting to destroy the boy’s life, i dont get? what if she had died? as for the boy’s parents, i don’t think they have any clue as to who they are dealing with. if he can thinlk to poison a classmate, he can think to poison his parents.

What makes a school a good school? Is it by attaching the word “British” in the name of the school? Apparently that’s what it is, cos from this post, the Lekki British staff seem to be poorly trained and wicked, despite the school’s reputation as being for moneyed folks. Don’t be duped by “British” named schools, high tuition rates, unqualified (but foreign) teachers, and other other schemes school owners dream up to entice you. Look for content, look for credentials.

Just on this same BN I saw a post advertising a “British summer school” for kids. What the heck is that? Keep in mind no trip to the UK was included in the package.

That being said, If I were the parents of that girl, I would sue the school, and take the boy’s matter to the police. Attempted murder at age 12 means a deranged mind is at work.

    June 29, 2017 at 7:06 pm

    quite simple.
1- sue the school for negligence and endangering the child
2- have the boy arrested and press charges for attempted murder.
3-remove the girl from the school.

Also, the issue of evaluation by ‘position’ should be looked into going by their name, I don’t think a British curriculum based school has any business (I stand to be corrected though) evaluating by ‘positions’. Children develop complex and suffer low self esteem in most cases. It’s best to score by percentages. A child that scored 80% in Arithmetic might not be as good in Literacy and so when they get together and compare notes, it will be a case of knowing one’s strengths and weaknesses.

Unfortunately in Nigeria, they’re no regulatory bodies checking to see that the so called British, American,Turkish etc based curricula schools actually follow guidelines of their adopted curriculum. Everything and everyone is allowed to run wild and free!

Been seeing this story for a fre days now and I’m surprised that in the midst of all this, no one is even bothered that a 12 year old had access to acid unsupervised. Is that normal???

The boy should be in a juvenile delinquency home. But because rich people, they want to cover it up. When he kills his siblings because of fifa game… they will know.

Reading through some of the comments here, I’m surprised that the general consensus isn’t rehabilitation for the 12-year old boy, but calling for his head. Is this how quickly our society writes off a kid?

The girl needs to leave the school, and the boy needs to be expel from school, he needs to be taken to a correction center, when he stays there for there 3 months, he will know this place is different from my house in lekki, he will know wrong from right, he will know life is not a bed of roses, he will know you can never get everything you want in life, and he needs to see a psychologist with his parents.

Like I have always said, it is not the school that matters, whether you study abroad, or you study in Nigeria, whether rich school, or average school. If a child wants to be bad, he/she will be bad. Everything starts from home. Parents need to take a closer look at their kids. No school is good, but your child can turn out good due to his/her parents care. May God help us all.

I agree with people that said they should look at the boy’s home, it’s possible that he take after his parents, or they can check which kind of friend he keeps. The boy is really evil!
