"If 80% of these people were gainfully employed they will not be on the road welcoming Buhari" - Ali Baba - BellaNaijaComedian Ali Baba has, on his Instagram, shared a powerful post about unemployment in the country.

Commenting on a photo of President Muhammadu Buhari‘s recent visit to Kano, where his motorcade is seen swarmed by a crowd, Ali Baba shared a caption decrying unemployment in the nation.

He wrote:

If 80% of these people were gainfully employed they will not be on the road welcoming Buhari. And it’s not about PMB. Because these are backlogs of unemployed and unemployable citizens for over 20 years and counting. These are the types that will cast votes for you for an exchange of a 5kg bag of rice. Why? Because they are down to their last hope. I tell many people. A citizen who gets good primary education will be triggered to get secondary education. At worst they will do better at Vocational schools. But once there is no foundational education, as basic as A is for Apple and 1+1=2 and all elementary teachings, the brain is locked out of the growth process. Because that basic education is what all other things are built on. Look at the pictures, you see popularity… I see thousands who can be used by anyone who has plans that will not benefit this country. Let’s begin to educate the child. The educated child will understand policies. The educated child will become a good citizen. The educated child will grow up to contribute to Nigerian economy. What do I know Sef? Shebi I am just a comedian?

He just said trash… gainfully employed has got nothing to do with a lot of people welcoming the head of states visiting a state it’s all about honour.. however Nigeria needs to be better I remember when I was in uni if the president is coming they advise students to orderly welcome him … but people coming to his show are they not gainfully employed?

All they want is a god to worship. A false sense that it’ll be well. Five minutes of an endorphin high after one year of devastating tension-driving and -sustaining epinephrine feels like everything. This picture should be captioned “Expectation when the foundation is visibly cracked.”

@deltageh…. some of them are obviously market men and women and 5 minuets to an hour most to say hello to Mr President means nothing to them. These are northerners who feel so much connected and related to him… some are also students . Employment issues are different from honouring a president… It’s a similar way people came out in Nottingham,UK just to see Harry and his Fiancee. Truth is most of these celebrities don’t like Buhari’s government because it’s not like Jonathan’s government where they also received part of the money that were stolen

I am all for Education, but that is not the Panacea. Our senate is full of educated thieves. We need a revolution, not necessarily a violent on, but a democratic revolution where those who have the best interest of the nation at heart make strong efforts to wrest power from the corrupt.

@Authentic sunshine, will like to comment on good posts like this more times than none but bellas comment section is too much hassle! Type in name then my looooooong email address. That discourages me A LOT! But thanks for the push!

Alibaba this was a well written and very truthful piece. Unfortunately these jobless people right there in that picture are the majority. They are the ones that help vote in the unqualified leaders – looking back at how Buhari won by a landslide in the north, not that Johnathan was a lot better, though still better, if you smell what i’m cooking).

Poor leadership = unemployment + poor population = poorly educated people – (jobless / unemployable) x (bribable population) + voting bad leaders = poor leadership = unemployment + poor population = poorly educated people – (jobless / unemployable) x (bribable population) + voting bad leaders. It’s a vicious cycle really.

How do we break this cycle???

How do we break that cycle? The million dollar question with no answer. But you know what? let’s do something different today.

Let’s start off by high jacking different social media platforms, for our collective good. Think: if others have used these platforms for their selfish, personal and business gains then why not?

      Regarding the upcoming presidential election:
1st – What campaign message and content do we want from a prospective candidate? We are tired of I will do this or do that. You are not a bleeding magician. How will you achieve them? is THE QUESTION. We need facts and figures. Heck we need someone who’s actually taken their time to do some research in order to convince us they’ve actually thought about the responsibilities.
Sometimes I feel “they” pluck some random Joe on his way to shite and ask him to……..(focus babe focus)

2nd – We need someone with water tight implementation plans oohhhh plus timelines and contingency plans. Broad scope then down to the local levels.

3rd- We need to descend and spread like a plague then race against time with our agenda. Use all platforms including FIN and other popular pages. Tell one to tell hundred.

Pls people encourage me to carry on. I always think up ideas but never see them through.
Chaiii on a very good day with good socioeconomic environment, I love my country and my countrymen.

@Authentic Sunshine, your enthusiasm and ideas is just like a rat of sunshine. I saw on Alibaba’s Instagram posts on him trying to run an apolitical campaign through some cool and hip ways to get all youth of voting age get their voter’s card. He said he will kick start it soon.
Now that is just the first step, but like you said people need to know that it is simply wrong to join the bandwagon and not question a candidate critically and hear what they have to offer and like you put it a well thought out plan. It’s not supposed to be acceptable to have a candidate that will shun presidential debate and the electorates will think it’s ok. We need to pay more attention and don t just focus on pdp/apc madness like as though they are the only party that exist. We need to use the social media platforms to make people aware of the power we have to create a better Nigeria.
Am so frustrated with the situation of the country and the need for us to get leaders with great ideology and zeal to chart a better course for the nation with great sincerity of purpose
