A white woman in Staten Island, New York has been found to have sprayed acid on herself after she claimed a black woman in her 40s did it, Inside Edition reports.
52-year-old Lizzie Dunn had claimed a black woman in her 40s had approached her while she walked and asked for cigarettes and money.
She had ignored the woman, she said, but when she turned around she was sprayed with sulphuric acid.
She however confessed to authorities after her claims were found to be false that she had sprayed the acid on herself.
While psychologists are still trying to figure out why she sprayed acid on herself and then lied, Twitter users have described Dunn as a white supremacist.
Authorities reportedly claim they haven’t decided whether to charge Dunn with filing a false police report.
