In Nigeria, there’s little or no adoption or application of ICT in schools, even though it’s a necessary skill for the present and the future.

So, #BellaNaijaMCM today Somto Anunobi decided to do something about this problem. He founded Geek Code Planet to “shape the future with ICT today.”

Geek Code Planet exposes kids, between 5 and 18 years, to various ICT skills to enhance their cognitive development, encourage critical thinking and problem solving, through after school clubs, and in-house and online classes.

It partners with schools in form of after school programs/clubs to teach kids coding and IT skills, curriculum integration and also trains of teachers to leverage on ICT tools for effective teaching.

Coding, game development and design, mobile app development, web development, animation, robotics, are some of the skills the kids are exposed to, getting them to transition from just using technology, to being creators.

Projects created by its students are hosted free online to showcase their amazing skills and journey.

Somto, a full stack programmer and instructor, is a 2019 Obama Foundation Leaders: Africa fellow, and a Tony Elumelu Foundation entrepreneur.

Through its Every Child Counts Initiative, Geek Code Planet offers free coding classes targeted at pupils and students in public schools to help level the playing ground in equality of education. It plans to reach 250,000 kids in 3 years.

We celebrate Somto for equipping kids with the necessary skills they need for today, and the future and we’re rooting for him!
