For the past few years, there have been whispers about ThisDay Media Group launching an international style magazine. There were world renowned photographers flown into Nigeria, photoshoots featuring African supermodels all over the world and finally the series of ThisDay Africa Rising shows.
Well, the magazine named ‘ARISE‘ was finally launched at the Royal Albert Hall in London during the last ThisDay Africa Rising show.
So was it worth the wait?
This mag is stunning. The content is vast and exceptionally-well put together.
A melange of African pop culture. There was no stone left unturned that I am a lil’ bit concerned that they might have nothing to cover in subsequent issues.
Anyway, here is an exclusive sneak peek inside the magazine.

Supermodels Naomi Campbell, Alek Wek & Liya Kebebe dressed by Nigerian designers, Deola Sagoe, Fati Asibelua of MOMO Couture, Lanre DaSilva Ajayi of LDA.

FABULOUS!!!! I was wondering when the magazine was going to be out since ’06 there was buzz about it. Finally!!!!! I wish they added Oluchi, though she’s not on Alek-Naomi-Liya levels but its great anyway!

The pictures are lovely and the designs showcased are great. I especially love the LDA dress on Liya as well as the Deola Sagoe dress on Liya. Looking forward to getting a copy of the mag.

What happened to all the nigerian models- Oluchi, Agbani…. when will we nigerians start taking pride in ourselves?

    • Ladybrille November 21, 2008 at 5:28 PM

From my recollection viewing the publication, there was a spread with Oluchi in it. It is quite diverse and rich and has everything in it like you mention Bella. I thought the same on topics to cover but I understand it is a quarterly publication so maybe that will not be much of an issue afterall.

    • WOW November 21, 2008 at 6:49 PM

Another sensitive & cranky nigerian. The event is Africa Rising not Nigeria rising. and cant u see 2 of them are wearing nigerian designer’s clothes? Oluchi was in the magazine too ok?

    • WOW November 21, 2008 at 7:10 PM

      oluchi was in it

    • lols November 21, 2008 at 7:41 PM

thank you o WOW – na wa. Can’t we just celebrate with ours for once. I was just getting so encouraged and excited that Naomi and Alek were actually wearing Deola Sagoe’s clothing, only to see the party pooper’s comment!!

    • SiSi Blu November 21, 2008 at 8:00 PM

Thank you WOW…gosh..party pooper in the house. They are already promoting African Couture…LOVES IT!

    • mina November 21, 2008 at 10:05 PM

    • RJ November 22, 2008 at 1:32 AM

I like the fact that they were dressed by Nigerian Designers. There is hope!!! ;-)

    • Uh oh November 22, 2008 at 3:46 AM

Uh oh, eh he eh he, look at our Naija designers doing well. Yay!

    • myalteregoisayanna November 22, 2008 at 2:42 PM

Let’s forgive the party pooper…she didn’t know. Moving on…the clothes on them are uber fab!! Go Africa….

    • michelle November 22, 2008 at 7:31 PM

am sorry but the on the cover the all i can see as the title is “arse” (pls not in a bad way, it’s just an observation) cos somehow the “i” is not really making an impact on the name of the mag, it’s just there like a dividing line btw the other four letters..can anyone else see it

    • Babatunde November 23, 2008 at 12:40 PM

Beautiful Style on even more beautiful women!

    • dami November 24, 2008 at 12:54 AM

its only the first issue theres still a chance for oluchi and other Nigerian model to be on the cover. Having these three supermodels grace the cover of the mag is good for the launch it will attract more attention than agbani and olucni.

plus its about africa arising not only nigerians. Nigerians should learn to share!
Naomi lokks fierce as always! loves it!

Excuse me people>>> Naomi is NOT African at all. Its African Rising she should not have been a part of it at all.

    • ify November 24, 2008 at 5:15 PM

from a reliable source Oluchi was suppose to be a part of the cover shoot but that same day she was shooting for American Vogue Dec issue which is out right now. Her schedules conflicted.

    • Yuyu November 25, 2008 at 1:47 AM

I think we need to move beyond this type of attitude.

    • Rebecca November 26, 2008 at 10:51 AM

Its glaring, dont know how you are seeing yours but its really glaring nothing hidden at all.
