Despite a rough start at the ongoing African Cup of Nations in South Africa, the Super Eagles of Nigeria have risen up to the challenge, winning their last two matches. Some minutes ago, the team won the quarter finals match against Ivory Coast to clinch the semi-finals ticket at the tournament.

The first goal of the match was scored by Nigeria’s Emmanuel Emenike in the 43rd minute. Shortly after the half-time break, Ivory Coast’s Cheik Tiote scored the equalizing goal in the 50th minute. But Nigeria’s Sunday Mba scored the winner with a shot from outside the area in the 78th minute, helping Nigeria advance to the semi-finals.

Nigeria will now play Mali, which eliminated host South Africa on penalties on Saturday in Durban.

It was really an interesting match. The Super Eagles put up a great performance. Well done!

    • abi February 3, 2013 at 11:12 PM

      Good win.
P.S: Bella Naija, this headline is grammatically incorrect. The word to use is “beat” as against “win” in the context of this sentence.

    • Chima Okey February 4, 2013 at 8:31 AM

Apparently, they’re Still Super Chickens. Until they win the Cup, then i can beat my chest to say they’re ‘ SUPER EAGLES’ . I’m not carried away by the victory over Ivory Coast.

    • xter February 4, 2013 at 10:47 AM

Chima, u must be an ungrateful person, the super eagles put up all there best in that match in other to make the nation proud, but all you can say is they are still super chickens, that’s not fair. if you think football is easy, then go out there and play.

    • MAUREEN OPARA February 4, 2013 at 11:06 AM

Ivory coast was too over confident forgetting that, the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor nread to the wise, nor riches to the men of understanding, nor favour to the skill. But time and chance happen to them all. Congrats super eagles, may God be praised

    • Graco February 5, 2013 at 11:55 AM

      Nicely said Maureen…

    • khalil February 6, 2013 at 2:41 PM
