Bill Clinton, Goodluck Jonathan, Babatunde Fashola, Bola Tinubu & More Dignitaries at the Eko Atlantic City Opening Ceremony in Lagos | Photos

The first phase of the Eko Atlantic City was inaugurated in Lagos yesterday at an event which attracted some top dignitaries. Former President of America, Bill Clinton; President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan; Former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu and the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola were among those who graced the occasion.

Eko Atlantic City is a planned district of Lagos that is being constructed on land reclaimed from the Atlantic Ocean. Upon completion, the new island which is still under development is anticipating 400,000 residents and a daily flow of 250,000 commuters. The development will also have a positive environmental impact as its main purpose is to stop the erosion of the Lagos coastline.

Here are some photos from the ceremony:

this just puts it into perspective for me…that Kim appearance fee might be a little embellished at $500,000 for just a 45mins, heck Bill could have been invited instead and i know that venue would be stupendously jam-packed….Bill commands about $250k to a million per appearance (what a meet and greet that would have been)…i could be wrong about Kim’s fees though but good to see someone with more substance on our shores, possibly bringing in investments….

    • Jude February 23, 2013 at 4:29 pm

You are correct. Nigerians are funny people. Kim got nothing. Who can pay that amount to an artist? Kim wasn’t even paid. She was doing a personal favor for a friend. All that was done for her was travel, security, accommodation and a small stipend. For the record, Bill Clinton’s speaking salary is about $170,000 minus travel. Cheers

  • NNENNE February 22, 2013 at 5:33 am

  • BBC February 22, 2013 at 6:21 am

haha this is the equivalent of dare bringing kim k to nig for the valz day special….. pointless! does clinton live in nigeria? why is he a stake holder? doesn’t good luck know how 2 cut a ribbon on his own? and why are the not actual pictures of the site and the development? all i see are people with fat wallets? xxx

  • say the truth February 22, 2013 at 6:44 am

Bill Clinton is just laughing, because what they’re trying to build now, yankee had already built before the 1920s.

    • m.h February 22, 2013 at 5:46 pm

Like I still think it’s stupid these guys have building that are 200 years old and they are still better than our newly built buildings..why waste money on appearance..we can never meet them In dis life ..even with how much God has blessed us..we shouldn’t turn ourselves to laughing stocks..after all we paid some foreign contractor to build it..smh

  • Say What? February 22, 2013 at 7:04 am

My concern is,does one have to be a member of the Oil Cabal to live there (when its finished)? It looks that way!

  • Gold February 22, 2013 at 9:31 am

@ wiklo, how can u suggest to have brought Bill Clinton instead of Kim K for a valentine’s day show?? are u for real?? Don’t u know to each, their domain!!!

  • Que February 22, 2013 at 9:49 am

What the hell are they dedicating? …and dedicating to who?? It is only in Nigeria dat we launch sand and stones… Sensible people unveil magnificent layouts and beautifully designed buildings that push how we think bout architecture and technology, and we’re inviting the world to launch sand, like say sand no dey their country, how can we ever expect to be taken seriously…!

  • yinka February 22, 2013 at 11:37 am

Bill Clinton needs to come and run for president of Nigeria! lol

Bill Clinton was there to attract the attention of foriegn investors. A few international investment related media outlets will carry the story because Bill was there. This is a big project that needs the publicity.
