Nigerian Idol Top 5 Contestants perform Soulful Songs | Guest Judge Jesse Jagz rocked the Stage at Last Week’s Show

With three more shows and five contestants left the Nigerian Idol competition is getting tougher. The show had celebrity rap artist and former chocolate city member Jesse Jagz as one of the judges and guest performer.

The show had the contestants perform hits from some of Nigeria’s best know artists like Lemar Obika and Sade Adu, sounding off from solid advice from Jesse as the show started; all he wanted to see was “descipline, discipline, discipline“. To celebrate one of the greats from a Nigerian heritage the top five sang a medley of songs from songstress Sade which included “Sweetest Taboo” and “Smooth Operator”.

Commencing performances for the show was  Safeeyat singing “If theres any Justice” by Lemar and “Olo Mi” by Tosin Martins. The judges were unsatisfied with the first performance with remarks from Yinka Davis telling her “I need to feel more of you! You need to find out who you are” and Jesse saying “Strong vocals but I think that you
may have started on a low key“. Her performance of the Tosin Martins classic met better reviews. Femi described her comeback saying “You have shown you are ready to pick yourself up

Next up we had the fair skinned lad Abasiakan performing “Invincible” by Lemar and “Omo Pupa” by Sir Victor Olaiya. The crowd ate up his rendition and Yinka also joined them while Jesse described his performance as better than Lemar’s and Jeffrey Daniel told him his performance was “…amazing and your vocals were on point!“. His performance of “Omo Pupa” was also well received and Jeffrey praised him for having good balance between vocal gymnastics and control.

Moses ‘The Teddy bear’ came up next. He sang Asa‘s “Peace” and “Ego” by Djinee. Jesse loved the performance and complimented him saying Moses had “an amazing, unique voice.” Jeffrey reiterated telling him “You’re not just one of the unique voices on Nigerian Idol, you’re going to be one of the most unique voices in the Nigerian Music industry“. His second song by Djinee met  remarks like “flawless“, “fantastic” and “amazing” coming from the judges.

Jayfeel the dance master sang “Crazy” by Seal and “Fall In Love” by Kokomaster D’banj. His first performance met the same criticisms he was all to familiar with. Femi told “I’m seeing you transcend; into being just a performer“. His “Fall in Love” performance was better but he still recieved caution from the judges with Femi also saying “You need to be careful
with your tuning” and Yinka adding “Work on your voice

The last performer of the night was Debbie Rise. She chose to sing “Bibanke” by Asa and a Tiwa Savage hit “Kele Kele Love”. Femi told her “You deserve to be here; it’s up to Nigeria to keep you here” and Jesse said her voice was “very nice“. Her energetic performance of “Kele Kele Love” met both praise from the crowd and critique as Yinka cautioned her that her expressive hands gave her control some problems.

Jagz Nation proprietor Jesse Jagz brought the show to a close with a debut performance of his hit track “Desire” which had the Idol hopefuls, judges and the audience dancing till the curtains closed. One more performance down, and three more left before Nigerian Idol Season 3 crowns its victor. Who will it be?
