Idols West Africa Winner Timi Dakolo Lambastes Pastors via Social Networking Website Twitter

Timi Dakolo

Earlier today, the West African Idol winner Timi Dakolo who is behind such lovely singles as the patriotic “Great Nation” and the romantic “Love Song” took to social networking website, Twitter to express his disdain for some religious leaders.

Here’s what he tweeted:

Do you agree with Timi‘s social commentary or were his observations uncalled for? If CEOs can go around with security teams, why not pastors? On the other hand, Timi alludes that Jesus was very humble and the way the pastor was carrying himself may not have appeared so - What do you guys think?

  • Coco July 17, 2013 at 4:41 pm

he couldnt have said it any better

  • Baby for real July 17, 2013 at 4:52 pm

    Right on point

  • Kemi July 17, 2013 at 4:52 pm

What I know for sure is dat everyone will give account of how he/she spend his life while on earth. Who am I to say what Timi said was uncalled for or what the so called Pastors have turned themselves is wrong? Na God go judge, we are not to judge.

    • No Longus July 17, 2013 at 5:17 pm

The reason why our country is the way it is. Nobody is being held accountable for their actions, believing that someday, the man in the sky will play judge, jury, and executioner in the after life. What a way to foster mediocrity in a society.

      • ovuoke July 18, 2013 at 8:38 am

Couldn’t have said it better myself!

  • vanessa July 17, 2013 at 4:56 pm

I agree with him. Jesus in d bible was really very humble no doubt, but come to think of it, Jesus had 12 disciples and they followed wia eva he went. Just saying#

    • oyin July 17, 2013 at 8:10 pm

they were not bodyguards dear, they were also doing the work.

    • Grayce July 17, 2013 at 8:40 pm

it’s people like u that like to oversimplify things and blow the Bible out of contexts

    • african celeb July 17, 2013 at 11:58 pm

these are security guards not disciples. lol

    • Ostracized July 18, 2013 at 2:13 am

Hmm, to an extent, they were his body guards (or rather, they chose to be his guards). Remember when the blind man wanted to touch him and they stopped him? Remember when the lame man shouted Jesus and his disciples/apostles refused to let him go near Jesus until Jesus called him? Also when they went to get Jesus (after Judas rat him out) and one of the apostles cut a soldier’s ear? Yep! those dude were somewhat body guards.

      • dinky July 18, 2013 at 9:09 am

        @ Disciples, Lmaooooooooo*coughs*ooooooooooooooooooo*chokes*ooooooooooooooL!!!!

      • dinky July 18, 2013 at 9:18 am

Just for the record, Jesus had disciples not bodyguards. There is a huge difference. Disciples follow u to because they believe u and will probably protect u as well whereas, Bodyguards follow u to protect u and get paid for their services…. Timi said “bodyguards” Huge difference! one more thing, last i checked, only Jesus had Disciples; his Disciples did not have Disciples, they had followers who followed the gospel. I agree with Timi. Dear Pastors, stop complicating Jesus. and Y’all bodyguards claiming to be disciples, don’t get it twisted!!!

  • pynk July 17, 2013 at 4:58 pm

HE has said what many are scared to utter about these so called men of God.

  • Kathryn Cage July 17, 2013 at 5:01 pm

Yeah right, I support Timi 100%! What does a Pastor need bodyguards for? He doesn’t trust that God will keep him safe, simple….. yet people worship in such churches. SMH

  • IKw July 17, 2013 at 5:01 pm

Yep! Some pastors do take it to the extreme.. Can be annoying at times. mind you, there were reasons Peter the apostle carried a sword and slashed a guards ear when the unfortunate dude wanted to attack Jesus! There just have to be moderation in all things!

  • ejogene July 17, 2013 at 5:03 pm

Help me ask them oh! Our Pastors of today i tire! Signs of endtime

  • Hurperyermie July 17, 2013 at 5:06 pm

hmmmmmmmmmm na wa infact na thtem sabi

  • none July 17, 2013 at 5:07 pm

I concur! It’s okay if it’s a protocol on church duties, anything outside of that is RIDICULOUS.com

  • didabliz July 17, 2013 at 5:09 pm

There are somethings that you see and just keep mute; it’s not bcos u are daft!…#awordisenoughforthewise…na their body and no be pay for the security

  • Chic July 17, 2013 at 5:11 pm

I have always wondered on the need for pastors to have bodyguards! How are they supposed to be spreading the gospel when they are so unreachable? Someone please enlighten me

  • happypeople July 17, 2013 at 5:11 pm

Some of these pastors have people that travel with them. I would not necessarily call them bodyguards. Just an entourage of usually some pastors, PAs, secretaries, etc. I know Pastor Adeboye has an entourage of pastors and his PAs that go around with him. Just looking at them, you would think they are bodyguards, but the fact really is, they are not. Timi, pls butt out of pastors’ lives and go make some music !!! #Nodisrespectintended, #factsonly

  • pride July 17, 2013 at 5:13 pm

    I agree and disagree

  • Anne July 17, 2013 at 5:17 pm

    Nigerians over-do everything. Smh

  • pride July 17, 2013 at 5:20 pm

Most times as humans when we attain a position of authority or superiority, some things are so inevitable and takes indefinable personal decision(s), self control and discipline foremost the fear of God to undertake. Well, with the security issues in Nigeria, I wont blame an individual for taking some decisions best known to them .

  • Foluke July 17, 2013 at 5:30 pm

@vanessa & Ikw, you are on point! Its important you study your bible before you start making comments which are self righteous at best and ignorant at worst. Why were Jesus’ disciples always around him in biblical days and why did some of them carry weapons? Why didn’t they believe God or the angels would protect him?!

    • NN July 17, 2013 at 6:47 pm

Thank you. God bless you. atleast there are still people with depth of understanding.

      • Idak July 17, 2013 at 8:32 pm

You see a display of shallow ignorance and you term it depth of understanding?

      • Grayce July 17, 2013 at 8:44 pm

SHUT UP!!!He is speaking the truth….go and sleep in a microwave if it is paining u…
        olori…………..

    • Idak July 17, 2013 at 8:36 pm

What sense are you struggling to make? Jesus had disciples not bodyguards. Besides those same disciples were not carrying swords or weapons after Jesus died and resurrected. If Jesus had body guards and pastors are expected to have same, why don’t you have one (besides the cost implication)? Is it because your own anointing is worthy of a cheap death?

  • pride July 17, 2013 at 5:38 pm

Dear pastors, the Jesus in the bible is very simple..please stop making Him so complicated.. – Timi Dakolo
I just saw this pastor at the airport with so many bodyguards…I am tempted to ask him,who wants to kill u sir?! – Timi Dakolo
chaiiii Timi Dakolo you wlld v landed in some pastors ” black book” if they have any such thing.
Any ways I bet the pastors have so gotten used to hearing all sorts from the pubic so is left to you.
    Nice!

  • oose July 17, 2013 at 5:38 pm

dear timi mind your business really mind your business i will advice

  • OK July 17, 2013 at 5:42 pm

I guess the writer of the article has answered his own question without noticing it…” If CEOs can go around with security teams, why not pastors?”: unfortunately churches in Nigeria are run like businesses/conglomerates. So, the pastors liken themselves to CEOs who need guards and all other worldly accoutrements to go with role.

    • a. alarape July 18, 2013 at 12:55 am

      nice, u made sense.

    • say the truth July 18, 2013 at 2:55 am

I like how you snuck accoutrements in there. +5 points for that.

  • BB July 17, 2013 at 5:49 pm

Its amazing how pastors get the most criticisms from so called Christians, how pathetic! This is a very sensitive ground to thread on, if people know the word or the Jesus that they claim to believe it would be obvious that this a display of sheer ignorance. If but for anything respect the anointing. 1 chronicles 16:22, psalm 105:15, Ephesians 4:29 to mention but a few

    • Idak July 17, 2013 at 6:47 pm

Enough of that anointing talk. We are all called into the Beloved of God. The same access these pastors are the same access i have to God. I say this with a full consciousness of how much i have missed God’s mark in recent days. There is no sensitive ground like you are claiming. It is these hirelings masquerading as pastors that perpetuate these myth that the anointing on their lives means they must be given a licence to do as they please and live such vain lives that even heathens are concerned. If you are a born again Christian, then you have an anointing from God. It is not only pastors. The anointing is nothing more than God’s empowerment and grace to fulfil His assignment through us on earth. The anointing to function as a doctor or politician in the market place of life is no less than that of a pastor to shepherd lives. Different but no less. Some pastors due to their manipulative, seductive and controlling tendencies peddle the myth that being called into the 5 fold ministry suddenly exempts them from criticism. If anything,it places a higher level of responsibility. Yet some of them get away with atrocities that members of the pew dare not and folks like you go around peddling messages of fear to enforce such myths.
None of the scriptures you provided can be used to support a pastor whose lives has not been expressly threatened by anyone to use bodyguards.
If i do some of the things these pastors do,will you refrain from point out my errors and constructively criticizing me out of respect for my anointing? After all 1 John 2:27 confirms that i have the anointing within me.

      • Damsel July 17, 2013 at 10:58 pm

It’s so amazing how hypocritical we get. When a celebrity musician is giving birth outside wedlock and people criticize the act, you cry foul and scream ‘stop Judging, only God will judge’. Yet we find it so easy to criticise pastors and yes, Judge them. How did we suddenly discard that stop being judgmental rule? God will help all of you that are criticising the pastor o! And God will have mercy on me too. You all forget so soon that a pastor is only a man like you and not quite infallible. On the issue at hand, it is none of my business, pastors will give account to God, not me.

      • okayyy July 18, 2013 at 2:25 am

THANK YOU!!! you couldn’t have put it better! so annoying when ppl start claiming, ‘respect the anointing, they are men of God’ like seriously! as long as we are all in Christ we will all give an account and Christ loves us all the same :)

    • carliforniabawler July 17, 2013 at 8:14 pm

Who told you Timi is not anointed? Go and research the meaning of the term not just what your pastor told you…..Most modern Christians would have been part of the crowd screaming to crucify Christ because he criticized the scribes and pharisees, seeing as we display the same mentality and attitude to change. Yes! Jesus did have 12 disciples and even more people that surrounded him but what was his goal and motive for these ones? were they for protection? or was he ‘mentoring’ them to do miracles as well as to build the Church after he no longer walked the earth in flesh??
Let us learn as a people to accept criticisms and move on…our pastors are starting to do asheju and oversabi!! chikena!!

  • yinkah July 17, 2013 at 6:11 pm

So u made Timi Dakolo God’s mouth piece…Fame to Foolish!!! Jesus was simple hen, yet He walked on water, had 12 disciples even told them to buy swords (luke22:36-37). Stop displaying foolishness, God is not a Critic, He does not criticize His own.

    • Idak July 17, 2013 at 7:30 pm

God is not a critic yet He has given us his word for correction.
Some of us are so wired for manipulation and control that it is worrying.
What has Jesus walking on water got to do with some men living in ways unbecoming of ambassadors? Have you seen how diplomats live in foreign countries? They just live quietly while influencing their host communities for the greater good of their home country. They live with the consciousness of the fact that this is not home and they will move either to another station or be recalled home soon.
These hirelings live such ostentatious and vain lives that you begin to wonder if they realize that they are not of this world, though they in it? Pastors have so manipulated and controlled congregations that they are giving a pass at every turn.
Some of us Christians are manipulated and overwhelmed by fear that we are even more scared of pastors than God Himself.
I am still struggling to see what is wrong in Timi’s comment.

      • okayyy July 18, 2013 at 2:27 am

Thank you once again!! you couldn’t have put it better…this is not our home! and I love your analogy with ambassadors living in foreign countries… :)

      • yinkah July 18, 2013 at 8:40 am

Timi Dakolo is not wrong but his tweet is wrong. Its not his place to correct a man he did not appoint as a Pastor. Miriam and Moses in the Bible did not almost live to tell their story when they scolded their junior bother, Moses!!! Simple tinz for A Wise man!!!

    • BB July 17, 2013 at 7:59 pm

Fame to foolish is right! couldn’t have said better

    • oose July 17, 2013 at 10:33 pm

      yinkah thank you …

  • marvel July 17, 2013 at 6:23 pm

Yes, I agree with Timi. Some, infact, most pastors in Nigeria have a semi god complex as people literally worship them. You hear them say my pastor this and my pastor that. They are like celebrities, which is a shame! When the pope travels, he may have bodyguards but they aren’t obvious. Isn’t Christianity about life after death? Since they bang on about going to heaven, why are they scared? One of the Igbo governors, I believe Rochas, walks out to buy corn. Who killed him? They should go and sit down.

  • NN July 17, 2013 at 6:40 pm

shut up and mind your business

    • Idak July 17, 2013 at 7:21 pm

      Because it is a pastor,ba?

      • okayyy July 18, 2013 at 2:27 am

haha! love it! we should do coffee :)

  • pipo July 17, 2013 at 6:43 pm

but my dear bella, where and how did timi lambast pastors?

  • Uby July 17, 2013 at 7:28 pm

In my opinion, Timi Dakolo is just being bored and seeking some attention. He knows no one knows him these days. And besides, he has no right to talk about any man of God. You are not God to judge. Thank you.

    • Grayce July 17, 2013 at 8:42 pm

u sound like a so called “man of God” otherwise, I don’t understand how he is seeking attention by politely speaking his mind which is infact the truth as a matter of fact..

  • nene July 17, 2013 at 7:30 pm

    abeg my brother tell them.

  • Chris Ayo Joseph July 17, 2013 at 7:47 pm

Apparently, i went visiting a friend of mine who lives in Gbagada on Sunday evening. As i drove close to the estate gate.. i saw three armed police men with straight face standing close to a white range rover jeep. At first i thought a Senator or a top Government official was round, but to my disbelieve, guess who i saw? it was “FRANK EDWARD the gospel singer”. He now goes around with Police escort. I was shocked and i asked same question Timi asked ” Who wants to kill this guy now”, How much has he made? I thought he was a gospel minister. Even 2face Idibia had no Armed policemen when he visited me in my house. I rest my case # Showing off#

  • Ayibu Makolo July 17, 2013 at 8:18 pm

Well he does have a point.
And he wasn’t rude about voicing his opinion so…

  • Princess July 17, 2013 at 8:46 pm

we keep missing the point dat men of God are called 2 serve… and those of you misquoting the scripture when d disciples pulled out d sword 2 slash the ear of d soldier, Jesus rebuked him sternly, also remember although the disciples where with Christ at that time they were still baby christian, truly until the Son of God died and anointed the disciples with tongues of fire did they truly understand the true meaning of Christianity. Please ask ourselves same peter that went with a sword to protect Christ, how did he died after God anointed him. please be wise in ur followership, Christ clearly stated by their fruits u shall know them. also ask yourselves why did d people of Israel hate Jesus, because he constantly criticized the way the Pharisees and scribes behaved, (wearing the best clothes, carrying themselves with some much pride). The people of Isreal grew up according to the old testatment “which condoned the levites (the pastors) to wear a robe of 12 precious stones, are there were revered. Bring it to today’s society u are worshiping your pastor and some points out something clearly wrong and you are shouting Kill Him Kill Him Kill Him how dare he question these great Men of God. I truly cant wait for the last day! As for me i will continue to obey the greatest commandments Love My God and love my neighbors as myself

    • a. alarape July 18, 2013 at 12:56 am

  • Church Girl July 17, 2013 at 11:59 pm

In my own opinion lets all concentrate on winning souls and making Heaven, cos in the end that is all that matters!

  • milly July 18, 2013 at 12:18 am

Men ! Timi has a point, Nigerian Pastors still have a long way to go in this walk, although we as individuals have to work our salvation with fear and trembling.
I am in US for now and I have listened to so many preachers just to name a few: Joseph Prince,Joel Osteen,Joyce Meyer,Bill Winston ,Pastors at the Hillsong Churches and even the Pastor of My local Church in Cincinnati Pastor Chris at People’s Church. I will say this are great ministers who are simple and God has been using them greatly. I do not even need to go for counseling after they preach unlike in Nigeria where you will run after a Man of God to book appointment again when they just finished preaching,so they can psyche you more into Oblivion.
I want to also thank God for my home Church ,Ikoyi Baptist Church where they give the word ,I am sure my Pastor Rev Lawal who is a PHD from the US who prefers to be called Pastor Lawal, his modesty and humility is also profound,he greets you first in church and people do not wait on long queues to see him.
We are saved by grace, not by our works or the law.Roman4,5 and 6 and we are all Christians not denominations, but one body and Christ is our Head.

    • kemio July 18, 2013 at 8:41 am

I think after you watch this video you might have a rethink about many of these pastors you just mentioned above. Follow this link. youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=0ks3EdMMT48

Write two lines, mention pastor in it, show it to Nigerians, sit back and watch the drama.

  • Timi has gone insane July 18, 2013 at 8:47 am

Timi has gone insane and today marks the beginning of his downfall

    1. If a common business man, Councillor, commissioner, CEO can have escorts, why shouldn’t a pastor have one? If kim wana come to nigeria, you see guards and bouncers everywhere, you see artistes, musicians going to places and you see them with escorts

2.When you all become a big man, you would understand these things

    3. Even as small as you are now, you value your privacy and wouldnt want people to hack into you any how, talk more of a pastor that people will wanna hold, touch, …..
In one of the Shilohs, a guy jumped on the altar to hold the Bishops leg (thats in church o) how much more when he is outside inan open space

    4. Beef and hatred that many of you have for big people will not allow you get there in life. It is so easy to sit in your bedroom and type cos of internet facilities. Whatever you dont value you can never possess.

    5. I am thinking, how many of the pastors sef? what percentage of them? maybe just 1percent cos only one percent can afford that. All the ones with no car in the village, you dont see them. so how come you say “pastors” as if its all of them or majority of them

    6. As small as you are, you have people who wash your clothes, people who dry clean for you, people you send on errand to buy recharge card and shawarma…. dont let me even go to housemaids cos you treat them like shit and have them do all for you. You mean a pastor should not have someone to assist him in some of the things he needs to do? He wanna buy food in a strange land for example, as he is praying and fasting for peoples salvation and deliverance, he should be the one to enter molue to get bread and akara?

    smh.

Dont know the person in question but he has attained it. Yall should better find a way of developing yourself and become big rather than beef someone. No one is forcing you to go to any church, shebi salavation is a personal decision? if you like, sit in your house and not go to church…..enough jare

    • Timi has gone insane July 18, 2013 at 9:00 am

@ his twitter page, is that not a tush car uploaded there?
      Is that not showing off?
why cant it be volkswagen or a 1780 car?
      hiss

    • dinky July 18, 2013 at 9:26 am

@ “Timi has gone insane”, u seem to be d insane one here. Did u read your post before posting it? are you even listening to yourself? Apart from a retard, I know not of anyone who would compare a pastor to a pornstar (KIM). Pastors should have bodyguards because they are now BIGMEN? Toh!!!! By the way, did you open a new email just to post this comment? wow!!!

    • Idak July 18, 2013 at 4:59 pm

You are a Christian and you unleash such curse on a man in God’s name? The same mouth you use to praise God? I often wonder the God some of us profess to know and worship? Certainly not the One who has called us into His Beloved and loved us with an everlasting love made manifest in His gift of His Son.
Today will mark the beginning of Timi’s insanity and his downfall if only his rise and gifts and talents were given to him by one of those pastors whose fan you obviously are.
How can you curse him who the Lord has blessed?
Dude/lady, your curse is causeless and it shall not rest.
Your attempt at manipulation and control has not gone unnoticed but those who know this God for themselves will never exchange the freedom that Christ has purchased for us with bondage and seductive manipulation in the name of giving honour to whom it is due. Men of God are men after all.
May the mercy of God rest on us all and may we avail ourselves of His grace to be worthy ambassadors and not stumbling blocks.

    • Msunderstood July 19, 2013 at 3:24 am

@Timi has gone insane- you are just silly, I could use better words to define u but BN may choose not to post it so I will leave it at this.

  • sylvy July 18, 2013 at 9:19 am

Some of you making reference with the actions of Jesus disciples refuse to understand that they were all in the learning process. Remember it was until they received the holy ghost did God commission them to go and preach the word. Me think our reference should be the disciples, did they always go with entourage anytime they travel to preach?. Lets take an example, Apostle Paul……..

  • Ann July 18, 2013 at 9:38 am

Timi is right, if Jesus Christ the Almighty Father neva went around with bodyguards who are pastor mere mortals to go about wit bodyguard. Are they not suppose 2 be christ like.

When a 50year old pastor who has been faithfully serving God has just one range, you see bashing, criticisms…

Maybe we should say when you are old (like 50years of age) you wont have anything tangible to say you own for all the years of your labour in life.

God have mercy on you all

So you want us to use the same yardstick in measuring davido, dbanj and ‘anointed men of God’? Davido and Kcee for crying out loud! you no try at all.
      Dude/sis are you for real?
You really believe the true measure of a live’s worth is how much cars, bodyguards and yachts you have by 50?
You seem to have a very dry sense of humour.
