Presidency responds to “Lost” 2016 Budget Mystery & Confusion

Missing Budget

Various news reports have confirmed that the 2016 budget is missing.

Premium Times says

“the hard and soft copies of the 2016 budget documents President Muhammadu Buhari handed over to the National Assembly on December 22, 2015, have been declared missing.

The Nigerian Senate was scheduled to commence deliberation on the proposed budget Tuesday (today).

But Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, shocked lawmakers at a closed-door session, when he told them the budget documents had been stolen”

Responding to enquiries about the missing budget, the Presidency has said;

Nobody except the President can withdraw the budget. As far as we know, he hasn’t done that.

The copies in their hundreds have been delivered to both chambers of the National Assembly.

By tradition, once the budget is submitted, it ceases to be our property.

Enquiries as to where it is should be directed to the appropriate quarters.

Best regards.

Basically the Presidency is passing responsibility for this situation to the Senate.

BellaNaijarians, what are your thoughts?

  • lola January 12, 2016 at 10:47 pm

This country is a mess, how can the soft and hard copy be missing? Am suspecting foul play from the Senate especially Saraki.

  • Krasavitsa January 12, 2016 at 11:07 pm

Mschewwwwwwwwwwww! Only in Nigeria. Our leaders are absolutely shameless!

  • FasholasLover January 12, 2016 at 11:18 pm

Confusion break bone. If hard copies are missing, soft copies nko. Abi the Presidency does not understand the meaning of soft copy. No back up, nada??? National budget?? Nigeria is beyond logic. But, how come the hard copies went missing in the first place? Assuming the hard copies wakad, which is beyond belief, what happened to the soft copies in the custody of the body that compiled the various submissions that is the budget? What is this “he said, l said…..”?????

This beggars belief!!!!!!!! Only in Naija.

  • nnenne January 12, 2016 at 11:19 pm

Soft copy of such a highly sensitive project missing? In 2016 ?
This is the joke of the century!

  • Omo eko January 12, 2016 at 11:36 pm

This is such a mess. I really don’t understand this country. Soft and hard copies missing? really?

  • Debby Dibs January 12, 2016 at 11:50 pm

Methinks that after the public uproar at some of the unbelievable items in that budget (e.g. N322 million to connect cable to the driver’s bathroom), the presidency has snuck that budget out for review. They cannot of course admit to this as it would amount to interfering with due process. Saraki has no obvious stake in stealing a budget.

    • NOT the dinosaur age. January 13, 2016 at 11:32 pm

      This is corruption.

      Call it by its name.

And, furthermore, if GEJ left an empty treasury as they’ve been alleging, where did over 6 trillion naira come from for the 2016 budget?

Oil was selling much higher in GEJ’s time and the budget was about 4 and a half trillion naira. Oil prices have fallen so drastically and yet Buhari’s budget is N6 trillion plus.

They have not accused the previous occupants of the Villa of stealing all the kitchen things, so why is almost a billion naira, or over a billion budgeted for buying kitchen equipment, and canteen equipment, etc? (Just one example.)

Even “soft copy” has disappeared in this day and age. And, from the computers of ALL the people and teams of people that would have worked on preparing this budget.

Today is January 13, not April 1, and even then, no one would still fall for it.

Because Premium Times has never given false news before??

Because I seem to remember when they claimed 100 soldiers were missing. When they claimed ministries were being slashed to 23. They’re an online medium so until I see a video I’m calling bullshit on this.

    • Krasavitsa January 13, 2016 at 8:14 am

Watched it on AIT last night. This news isn’t false.

  • Glory N January 13, 2016 at 2:10 am

Your President presented a budget with mind boggling provisions that taint the so called saintly “i-am-not-corrupt” garb that he wears. Unfortunately for him (and fortunately for Nigerians) the budget (shrouded in much secrecy for reasons best known to the presidency) leaked. Utterly embarrassed at the turn of events, your presidency has come up with this ridiculous story that only persons with low IQs will buy. This is really an insult to our collective intelligence….soft and hard copy missing, you must think this is 1984. No smart person will buy this silly story, Nigerians are not fools.

  • mimi January 13, 2016 at 6:46 am

I don’t understand ! How can the Federal Republic of Nigeria announce to her Citizens that a soft copy of a Budget made by them is missing ? i can at least try to accept the hard copy part but for a soft copy to go missing ? AIT………..Yup, unbiased reporting those guys!

Told you guys it was false. It was presented in the House of Representatives today. The APC senators deny its missing, the only senator to confirm was a PDP senator so long story short, our Senators are as un-serious as ever and the reporter and AIT jumped the gun.

They should go and collect copies from the House of Reps. Incompetent Idiots.
