Arise Africa Fashion Week: Jewel By Lisa

In popular fashion, Jewel by Lisa’s collection features African fabrics with sequins and detailing on the bodice, neckline and sleeves which never fail to captivate an audience!  This collection is pleasantly colourful, and features quite a number of beautiful individual pieces and dresses. While some are uber chic, it also includes pieces that are a little more laid-back and playful.

With Jewel by Lisa, It’s more about how she can constantly play with the Ankara fabric in collections and bring out designs that are innovative and fresh! With this collection, we see a different edge to her designs; she takes a futuristic approach with some of the featured pieces with interesting patch dresses, what looks like a paint splatter print trench, and also dramatic shoulders!  While I commend her for taking a different and quite an intriguing approach with some of the pieces in this collection, however there are a few pieces that still remain a blast from the past.

The beauty of  this collection by Jewel By Lisa, lies in the lush of the colours, her remarkable craft and its interaction with the various fabrics and textures in creating finely tailored garments that  flatter the feminine frame.

This was by far the best collection of the night and although you have shown a few of the beautiful outfits that evening (a bit more would have been nice) I find it odd that the leather pieces, the slks and chiffons were not featured in your article, these pieces certainly pushed the envelope. I would advise everyone to check out the full collection on the afi website.
