Arise Africa Fashion Week: Lanre DaSilva Ajayi

LDA’s collection filled the runway with yards of lace, Tartan and adorable flower applique. She features dresses which can be worn out to lunch and those  that will definitely make statements in social events! She mixes soft colours with delicate fabrics to execute very feminine pieces. And as for the bolder pieces, she experiments with  vibrant colour mixes, intense ruffles and rose applique. The pieces in this collection are expressive of an eccentric, vibrant yet an equally subtle personality!

Combining  lace with Red tartan fabrics  gives the collection a very romantic and captivating feel especially with the long half-netted sleeves. She chooses to stick with her primary source of inspiration, that is, the Victorian Era. You see lots of dramatic cuts and designs with Victorian inspired sleeves, pick-up and tiered bubble skirts.  While this influence works with most pieces, it doesn’t with some, however,  you can’t help but admire what can only be described as the character of her designs.

This collection comes right after the release of her ready-to-wear collection, however she is able to create a distinction between the two, but also rely on some similarities, like with tartan and her ability to display pieces which are able to cut across both bold and  moderate  personalities.

Nah I don’t think so. I think Agbani’s features are a little more exaggerated and Agbani’s lips are not as full…. but that’s just me..

someone made the comment that Lanre doesn’t have brand or design recognition as in you can’t say for sure an outfit was made by LDA when you see it outside.

I think LDA’s brand is in the fabric choices she makes and her clothes have a very vintage feel to them.

When I see handcut lace, florals, a loose drape but defined waistline i know its LDA.
