Joseph Olayinka Elliot, Mbiedabasi Ekpo Etim & Ademola Ajayi Emerge Winners in the Samsung NX300 Guerrilla Photo Challenge

Samsung - BellaNaija - September 2013001Samsung Electronics West Africa has presented prizes to three lucky winners of the Samsung NX300 Guerrilla Photo Challenge, a photographic competition designed for amateur and professional photographers who told the “Lagos Story” with their camera lens.

Joseph Olayinka Elliot who emerged the first prize winner with his entry, a panoramic capture of the National Theatre, Lagos, received a Samsung NX300 Camera. Mbiedabasi Ekpo Etim, winner of the second prize received a Samsung NX1000 Camera while Ademola Ajayi got a NX30 Camera as the third place winner.

The online call for entry in the Samsung NX300 Guerrilla Photo Challenge opened on Saturday 8th June 2013 and climaxed with online voting which started on Tuesday 6th August and closed on Friday 16th August, 2013. Joseph Olayinka Elliot garnered 1,404, Mbiedabasi Ekpo Etim received 1,250 votes and Ademola Ajayi came third in the voting exercise.

Speaking at the prize presentation held at SEWA office in Lagos on Wednesday 28th August 2013, Emmanouil Revmatas, Director, Hand Held Devices, Samsung Electronics West Africa, said Samsung NX300 Guerrilla Photo Challenge is an initiative designed to jazz up creative-photographic lifestyle of photographers in Nigeria. According to him, “Samsung NX300 Guerrilla Photo Challenge received overwhelming response from both amateur and professional photographers during the competition which is a demonstration of Samsung NX300 brand love due to its super-fast ability to capture life’s most fleeting moments as well as share them instantaneously”.

Over 300 contestants submitted their best shots for the Samsung NX300 Guerrilla Photo Challenge via www.samsungcamerang.com/nx300 microsite. Judge photographer, Azu Nwagbogbu of Lagos Photo fame selected top 20 photos of the 37 entries that were considered worthy for the competition. The 20 selected contestants were screened by another team led by Sola Aromokun and the Samsung NX300 team where 10 finalists made it to the final photo challenge.

After undergoing smart camera training clinic, the 10 finalists were broken into three groups and given the NX300 with various lens to tell the “Lagos Story”. After the shooting, photos were selected and uploaded unto the microsite for voting. 15 pictures were screened and selected for each contestant and were uploaded on the microsite.

Voting was promoted on social media platforms; Facebook, Twitter, Nairaland and Instagram. Contestants also added to the increased awareness for the competition by canvassing for votes on several social media platforms and online sites which went viral.
