The police officers revealed to Punch reporters that the musician was invited for questioning and released immediately.

“We invited him based on the petition we received and he has written a statement. He said the woman was his girlfriend and she had come to visit him at home.

Obesere is not a flight risk, so we have released him on bail. However, investigations will continue and if he is found culpable, he will be arrested.

The woman in question came to Obesere’s house willingly and was not abducted. There are no eyewitnesses apart from Obesere and the victim, so we cannot conclude that it was rape, but we will leave no stone unturned.” said the police officer.

This doesn’t make any sense. Referring to the previous write up –“Obesere was arrested last Wednesday but was later released on bail. On Monday, he was arrested again after a medical examination revealed Olanike was raped.” If there was a medical examination to prove this, why are they saying this: “so we cannot conclude that it was rape, but we will leave no stone unturned.” said the police officer.” He is definitely guilty and should be arrested…Obesere is a very pathetic stinking dirty pig – Fear God and confess…

I was thinking the exact same thing! I don’t even know what else to say.

  • NIRA March 6, 2014 at 11:03 am

I read that a medical examiner said it was rape, not consensual sex. I believe there are ways to prove she was raped. I sincerely hope justice gets done in this case. BN, pls don’t let this issue die like this, please keep asking questions and keep bringing it up so it’ll be fresh in our minds, lest we forget, like we always do.

Shame on the Police officer . So cant a test be done on the girl to know if this was rape? Haba that’s why i love America, they don’t waste time to prove a crime like rape. This is Sad.

Please they should not sweep this one under the carpet as always because Obesere is involved. Rape is a serious issue and she should not be threatened into keeping quiet.women let’s speak up for our own, I’m not about if she went there willing or if she did the right thing going to discuss business in his house, there is nothing to justify rape.
Rape is rape, rape is evil and should be condemned. And@ DJ STELTCH I pray this never happens to your sisters, nieces, mother, aunties, wife or anybody that has anything to do with you. Am sure you wouldn’t be able to say the rubbish you just did. And team BN, such comment should not be allowed here as it concerns this case. God help women and save us from helpers like this

The Police Statement is Police speak for; ‘we have been settled, therefore case has been unofficially closed’.
How dare the police officer say, because she went willingly to his home therefore it may not be rape! People sit willingly and comfortably in their homes and get robbed, does that mean a crime hasn’t been committed? Because they remained at home ? Or were in the comfort of their homes? We vote for politicians and they rape the land of its wealth, does it mean that because we voted them in, it isn’t a crime for them to defraud their country and it’s people?
The only thing she and perhaps most Nigerians are guilty of is believing in the dignity of the human race, believing that the average man has a sense of dignity to know what is right and what is wrong.

  • Priscy March 6, 2014 at 2:06 pm

Only in Nigeria…So because she went there willingly now means she was not raped??? Nigerian police keep failing….further investigation my black ass. This will be swept under the carpet as usual.

Crawl back into the hole you came from. We don’t need your type here.

  • Aibee March 6, 2014 at 5:05 pm

Well, to start with, rape is a bailable offence. So the police are in good order to grant him bail, provided he met the bail conditions. My own concerns are 2 fold – (1) that the matter isn’t swept under the carpet as usual. I hope that the police conduct their investigation properly and conclude it. And if rape is evident at first glance, Obesere should be charged to court. It is the duty of the Court to find him innocent or guilty, not that of the police.
My 2nd concern is for the lady in question. I read on another blog that she had to relocate as she had been getting threats to her life and loved ones. I hope she is safe and remain safe to see justice done.

As an aside, one of the ways of proving rape is by a medical examination of the woman to prove forceful penetration. If forceful penetration can’t be proved then it would be hard to sustain a charge of rape. Also, if madam showered, or waited a few days to report/get a medical exam, it may be hard to get the rapist’s DNA from her as the sperm or pubic hair etc left on her may not be enough to prove conclusively that he did the raping.

  • Justice Speak! March 6, 2014 at 5:36 pm

Obesere….hmmmm!!! I see a stormy period dat will cause a ship wreck of your boat! Don’t rejoice yet because what is waiting ahead is incomprehensible!

The Police always d spoiler….never going scot free with all dese injustice swept under the rug!

  • Concerned_Boyfriend March 6, 2014 at 7:02 pm

Until they reform the Police and the judicial system in that country, we will continue to hear horrible stories like this. The primary reason why I find it hard to relocate to that country. Simple mundane tasks cannot be completed without people invoking “Big Manism”.. That country is doomed!…

  • stan March 6, 2014 at 9:35 pm

it can happen to anyone’s sister.. so please don’t make this a mocking or joking matter.. consider what the lady is passing through, her future cos this obessere is into fetish stuff.. so she might have damage the girls future.. nigeria police shame on you all… dirty black men

  • BMO March 6, 2014 at 11:16 pm

Two wrongs don’t make right. Why in God’s name will she agree to still spend the night after he demanded sex and she refused. Secondly, what kind of stupid business are you discussing with another woman’s husband till it got so late that you couldn’t go home again? Ain’t you even scared his wife might just show up miraculously and baptize you with acid? What do these unmarried ladies want with other women’s husbands that they can’t find in rich singles out there?

  • mra March 7, 2014 at 2:14 am

You need to see the way the lady is being insulted on another blog. Most comments claim she is lying and just trying to ruin his life. People still saying ‘what was she doing there?’ In dis age? Hmmmmmm na wa o! Na wa! No wonder most women keep quiet.
Shared the last rape story with my brother who is a lawyer. He said if the police are not helpful, take it to a lawyer! They are less likely to sweep it under the carpet.
May God heal and comfort these girls and women, who have gone through this horrific experience. And may His wrath turn fully on these men – in Jesus name!!
