CLAN debuts Sporty-Chic S/S15 Collection at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week New York!

CLAN Showcase at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week - Bellanaija - September2014027

As promised here is Nigerian design label CLAN‘s Spring/Summer 2015 collection showcased today, Wednesday 10th September 2014 at The Salon at Lincoln Centre, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week New York.

Their collection was paired with Deola by Deola Sagoe‘s label and took on a sexy sporty-chic theme.

The showcase had undertones of girly innocence and floral detailing coupled with sportswear accents. We like the new direction CLAN took with this collection showcasing their diversity as a label. In case you missed it, check out Deola Sagoe’s collection here.

For their makeup look, CLAN went with a baby doll theme with pale lips leaving all the attention drawn to the eyes. We love the hair too – very Miley Cyrus-esque with the double top knots.

First of all congratulations, showing ur work at Mercedes benz fashion week is a huge accomplishment for any designer. The collection is fun, colourful and hip, (but the writings on some of the gowns made the gowns look mediocre and junior) good job tho.

Sorry to whoever feels hurt. Is this what people call creativity? Who wears this kind of clothes on the streets.

People actually wear stuff like this. A lot of people including Rihanna and Miley Cyrus and other celebrities. I prefer their collection to their mother’s. Very well made, well done.

This is strictly for Rihanna’s wardrobe. It’s not classy, but hippie, I love Fashion so much that I mustn’t see my kids in this. Classy is timeless(pearls, corals, 18k gold, diamonds, dresses jeans&laid back tops with high high intelligence) thank you.

I think this is their niche- young, hip and contemporary. they should stick to it.

I really like the collection even though on d whole it isnt my style…..they tried to make the sporty look elegant….worked in some places, not so much in others….. but they are certainly creative, and put a lot of work in these…if you’re in doubt, try recreating it…, Many of these can be worn separately anyways so I don’t know why pple moan about not being able to wear d looks as presented…. if u have style, you don’t need to wear the looks as presented by ANY designer….thats what taking something and making it your own means! Well done to them… my only advice is not to be so dependent on mama, cos I’m seeing some a lot of her influence in these cuts….it often felt like A.Wang meeting Deola S. I’m looking forward to how the brand evolves… best wishes.

Lol theyre dependent on mama cos mama be designing the clothes, Its common knowledge they’re just the faces/stylists of the brand. Even if you look at their classics collection you’ll see alot of designs that Deola has used…

    *crickets*
I understand they’re trying to be hip and trendy but this collection doesnt make sense. Not even the designs but the material, the material looks VERY cheap. i would like to see who in their right mind will wear these clothes…Deola’s collection was ON POINT though. Lots of nice pieces. Congrats to her

@TI, Olivier Roustenbourg( don’t know if I spelt it right) was made head designer at Balmain at 24 and he has made Balmain a household name. His designs are out of this world. That the girls are young or being tutored by their mother doesn’t mean the designs are their moms. Of course they’ll have their mother’s influence, she taught them and I’m sure they admire her work there’s no shame in that but to say they’re mere faces of the brand is hurtful and putting down their hardwork. In fact unless you have a video showing their mum doing all the designs I suggest you put down the haterade. And a lot of people actually wear these clothes. The point of runway shows is to show your work artistically, the masses can now choose to pair the pieces how they please. That its not your taste doesn’t make it rubbish.

Some good points here. But you have to admit they’ve come a long way in a very short space of time, thanks to mumc. Lets not forget it took mumc 25 years to showcase her work at NYFW and its taken them less than 2. Kudos to them though. God is clearly working

Have u tried pricing these fabrics at a vendor/supplier, or your eyes are just cheap??

ignorant statement price does not necessarily guarantee quality

Then stop making it them fam. Simple. Why does colour have to be an issue?? Black models, white models, really doesn’t matter blud. Why is it affecting you? Are you not secure in yourself as a black woman?
Allow making something that isn’t an issue, an issue.

Smooches, licks, love, peace and chicken grease. xxxxxx

some comments are better kept than made…why not simply ignore rather than pulling down another man’s work?

I honestly can rock Deola as well as CLAN. For those who can’t see themselves wearing these, it’s ok. They featured at New York fashion week, not Nigerian fashion week. New Yorkers will Rock these pieces and they have the money for it. Hell a lot of women across the globe will Rock these, myself included.

Looking at Deola’s collection and then this, I would say she was opting for a more younger audience with this collection, which I love by the way. Plus most of the people who comment on fashion posts on BN need to visit a real fashion week (New York, London, Milan, Paris) and see what labels are putting out now, these collections are ready to wear but essentially creativity is everything and I can spot some with her work here.

Oh of course,Nigerians “creatives” always trying to please the American market.Y don’t we design for ourselves for once. There are young savvy Nigerians willing to dole out cash for great quality clothing.Their market is overly saturated my dear fellow niggurs you hear?Miley inspired hair….lyk hello?Jeez.

Where are the African models? Then we talk of the need for diversity
