2 Nigerians Top Lagos International Chess Classics

Nigeria’s Abimbola Osunfuyi and Odion Aikoje on Wednesday topped the table alongside Egypt’s Ezat Mohamed and Hesham Abdelrahman in the third round of the ongoing Lagos International Chess Classics.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Osunfuyi, Aikoje, Mohamed and Abdelrahman are each on three points in the FIDE category.

Osunfuyi defeated International Master, Bunmi Olape, while Mohamed defeated Omoniyi Adeyinka.

Abdelrahman defeated Adefajuyi Tosin.

Following them is Grandmaster Jha Sriram from India, who drew points with Abimbola Akinseye.

The players are standing on 2.5 points each.

Former Nigerian Breweries (NB) International Chess champion, John Fawole, is also on 2.5 points as he drew with Ikeagwuani Chidube.

 They are also standing on same points.

U.S-based International Master, Dapo Adu, came next with two points after defeating Ghana’s Eric Anquandah.

The Lagos International Chess Classics started on October 21st and will end on October 24th at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere.

The prize money for this year’s tournament is $22,000 while the players will compete for honours in three categories.

The star prize is $6,000.
