What Would You Do if Your Child Secretly Records a Video of you Disciplining them & Posts it on Social Media?

What would you do if your child secretly records a video or audio of you scolding/disciplining them and posts it on social media? This is more than just a hypothetical question. This is the dilemma that some parents are facing today.

According to Daily Mail, shaming parents on social media is fast becoming a trend amongst teenagers, and it is creating a generation of parents who have become too afraid to discipline their children, because they don’t want to be ridiculed on social media.

One UK mom (who preferred to remain unnamed due to the horrible embarrassment her daughter caused her on Facebook) shared her experience on the matter.

Her teenage daughter had put on heavy makeup to go to school one morning, and she told her to take it off. The child then became extremely rude and acted in a stubborn manner, refusing to obey her mom.

The mom then became extremely frustrated, and in her anger, said some aggressive words.

“I remember telling her in no uncertain terms that she needed to ‘pull her socks up’ and stop being such a pain or she would be sorry … I wasn’t thinking about what I was saying. I was just furious and letting off steam,” she said.

Unknown to her, the mischievous 15-year-old had recorded the entire rant on her mobile phone, and subsequently posted it on social media. Her friends proceeded to leave all sorts of insulting comments including “God, your mother’s a cow,” “Screechy mum alert! She needs to calm down,” and other derogatory remarks.

Another mom, Sally Chambers revealed how her her teenage daughter, Caitlin, had made her seem like an abusive parent.

The door of Caitlin’s door fell off its hinges, and as a temporary measure, Chambers screwed a bolt across the door to keep it in place.

Because Caitlin was angry with her mom, she took a photo of the bolted door and posted it on Twitter with the caption: “Help! My mother has locked me in my bedroom.” The message was retweeted multiple times, with many of her friends insulting her mom. It got so bad that Chambers’ friends would see her and ask why she was abusing her daughter.
