A court in Ivory Coast on Tuesday in Abidjan, sentenced former first lady, Simone Gbagbo, to 20 years in prison, for her role in  post-election violence that took place in.

Rodrigue Dadje, her lawyer, said the trial verdicts were announced after nine hours of deliberations by the jury.

He said Gbagbo was tried alongside 82 other allies of ex-President Laurent Gbagbo.

“This is purely a political decision to keep her out of the political game,’’ he said.

He said they were being tried in a case, in which more than 3,000 people, were killed.

Dadje said Gen. Bruno Ble, who headed the elite Republican Guard, and former Navy Chief, Adm. Vagba Faussignaux, were both jailed for 20 years, while the former president’s son got shorter sentence.

“The jury members retained all the charges against her, including disturbing the peace, forming and organising armed gangs and undermining state security. It’s a shame,” he said.

Dadje said the sentence handed down by the six-member jury, was longer than the 10 years requested by the state prosecutor.

He said the former first lady’s rights, were also suspended for 10 years.

The lawyer said Pascal Affi-N’Guessan, President of Gbagbo’s Ivorian Popular Front (FPI) party, was also handed an 18-month suspended sentence.

The ex-first lady said she had been insulted and humiliated by the prosecution, which, she said, had failed to prove her guilt, adding that she told her part of the truth.

“I’m prepared to forgive. I forgive because, if we don’t forgive, this country will burn, she said.”

Listen up, APC. This is how the ICC works. With proof and they are thorough. Not that dross you said about reporting Mama Peace to the ICC. They aren’t to be joked with. Don’t waste their time.

Mrs. Gbagbo thought she was too big for her shoes.

the next time your husband acts as if the PRESIDENCY of a country is his family inheritance, advise him oo, advise him or else when the boiling and the simmering cools down, you will have questions to answer because you were in charge at the time. You and your husband ruled a country for 10 years without any elections, it was an unmerited honour that was bestowed on you but……noooooooo, you must chop the next 4 years at all cost! and people died….. just because you and your husband wanted to rule for four more years………. the ten years was not enought! Anyway my condolences to you and your family, i believe your children have lost their mum for the next 20 years or something……… By the way other children have lost parents for ever because of you and your husband…. Its sad which ever way you look at it.

“The jury members retained all the charges against her, including disturbing the peace, forming and organising armed gangs and undermining state security.”

All I can think of is how wonderful it would have been to hear this verdict being given to all the politicians in Rivers State (including its ex-governor) who armed touts to help their election victory and consequently paved the way for a new future for criminals and kidnappers to thrive in that state. And who are now living the plush life in Abuja after leaving their mess behind. BN, if I type names, you won’t post my comment because we know how diplomatic you are regarding such charged topics. So I’ll just end it here.

While I think P baby should be ignored for the ignorant person she is, I agree that she should take heed. The only thing I disagree with is that she should read this. For where? GEJ should read it to her because y’all know that if Mama P attempts to read, there’ll be mega trouble…

Madame Patience, this is how your life will play out at ICC if you incite violence during the election. Oh, I forgot, you have done so already, so be prepared to join Charles Taylor in Hague. So,in future you will learn to think before speaking.

Buhari never served jail time for inciting violence that killed more than 800 people after the last election. Obasanjo did not go to jail for the genocide he ordered in Zakibiam and Odi (6000 killed total). If ICC begin investigating Nigerians, they will have to relocate their headquarters to Abuja.
