Pres. Buhari: Why are People so Anxious for Me to Appoint Ministers?

President Muhammadu Buhari has explained why he is yet to appoint ministers.

YNaija reports that Buhari blamed the delay in appointing ministers on the lateness in getting handover notes from ex President Jonathan’s transition committee.

Speaking on the matter, the president reportedly said:

“I don’t know why people are so anxious for the ministers. But eventually we will have them.

The main reason is that I had a transition committee, which I agreed with former President Goodluck Jonathan that the ministers of the outgone government should handover their notes and documents to this transition committee so that we could be prepared.”

The ministers knew that they were going but the technocrats, permanent secretaries and so on, knew they will remain. So if anything goes wrong, they will be invited to explain.

Unfortunately, the outgone government did not cooperate, so what the committee did was to divide itself into about five sub-committees, and I (only) got the report, I think, three days ago.

I was waiting for that report because I would like to know what positions there are in the government, especially in terms of the finance and petroleum portfolios. So I’m not in a hurry to get ministers.”

Mr. President, sorry o, but what the heck are you talking about???? People are anxious because you promised them change (magic) and promised to hit the ground running. Unemployed Nigerians are waiting for their monthly allowance and parents are also awaiting free lunch for their kids at school. Maybe this will go through Ministry of Social Welfare….. so you can see why people are anxious. Ministers are supposed to help make all your change promises become a reality. We cant say what happened or didnt happen during the transition process, but we were duly informed by both outgoing and incoming administrations that there was cooperation all around. By the way, I wonder how long you will continue to blame the outgoing administration for every criticism you receive? 6 months? 1 year? 4 years? What on earth does the handover process have to do with you naming your ministers? For someone that has been running for President for almost 20 years, people expect that you should have known what you wanted. The fact that you are even asking why people are anxious is very sad. Best of luck to you! Up Nigeria

It was unfortunate that you don’t even know what changes Nigerians are yearning for. People have voted change and they have gotten. PMB is now on top and eventually Nigeria will get better

Really!? Its just two weeks. Nobody promised you magic. What could he possibly gain by delaying the ministerial appointments. You clearly don’t understand how these things work. Even in a large cooperation, you would need to understand the situation of things, before you make any tangible appointments. You need the handover notes from all departments. Its clear you are not in support of PMB. Bit does that mean you are also oblivious of the fact that Nigeria is in a big mess all round. Let the man do his work. Its a whole country we are talking about here.

I didn’t ask the man to turn water into wine in my comment. I am very sure it’s pretty self explanatory. what does the situation in Nigeria have to do with naming ministers please? For someone who has been running for president for almost twenty years, he is coming across as unprepared and he is ridiculous for asking why Nigerians are anxious about Ministers. He may not have promised magic per se but his promises seemed like that to the masses and when he saw that it would get him votes, he didn’t bother to correct that “magician” impression. Now that ish is real, he is forming ” I am not a magician but a mere mortal”, oh please! And for those who are asking when Jonathan picked , his ministers, I am laughing seriously o, is Buhari modeling his government after Jonathan, or has he brought Change as promised?

People really didn’t read the fine-print on that N5000 monthly offer did they? He promised it only to the poorest 20m or so Nigerians with some conditions.

      June 15, 2015 at 9:48 pm

Yea, ellesarisellendil, how exactly will they determine who the poorest 20 million are? Lol

Sorry to burst your anti-Buhari bubble. Please go read up on the Conditional Cash Transfer program. The national ID will provide NIMC with a database of all Nigerians, and states/technology will be used to select and authenticate the poorest. These people will be given money provided their children go to school and the parents use healthcare facilities.

      Read up, ma’am.

regardless of promises made during campaign, any right thinking person knows change cannot happen overnight particularly since it took decades to degenerate to this level. We are a terrible and corrupt people so it will take a long while for even the right policies to be implemented

I have always wondered why Permanent Secretaries can’t be promoted to Ministers. They are technocrats and do most of the work the Ministers claim they do. if they take away the politicking it may even be better and more productive. Anyway we are waiting to see how you will disappoint or satisfy Tinubu, Obasanjo, Danjuma, Atiku, IBB, Sanusi and El Rufai who have given you candidates.

    Dear MB,
I need to be anxious because, today, it became 107 days since you were declared the winner of an election in Nigeria and 17 days since you were sworn-in as the president of the most populous black nation on earth.
Maybe, I need to remind you that you are not Joseph of the Holy book, that left prison to palace within 24 hours and requested for time to plan his government, because his elevation ( not election) was providential.
MB, while working on your emergence, I occupied twitter and facebook, I experienced partial insomnia and the thickness of my lens increased.
Those were my battle scar, now that the victory is ours, and the rain has drowned our fears, now that we see the ray of sun in Golgotha, and dignity of the sons of Sheba is restored on the Caucasian dinning table, you must begin this race with the selected few to take us to El dorado.
I look forward to seeing the train soon..

    Yours truly,

    @Ehiwarior_

The Daura Dullard has spoken. To think this man spent twelve years to get here. A family friend visited yesterday, he owns a martime coy. He says nothing is happening at the wharf as everyone is waiting to know DD’s policy direction, yet he says he does not know why people want him to appoint Ministers? The country is on auto pilot becos it seems nobody is in chargeand yet he does not see the need for urgency.

    Buhari na one chance.

Chaaiii!! all these people defending their president you people are falling hand. Ok! I will excuse that you missed the latest strategy, what we APC/Buhari supporters/change agents do is IGNORE. These PDP e-rats have the effrontery to talk because we give them attention because they think they are in a debate(Trying to win what they lost), IGNORE them and you’ll see them immediately lose their negative vibe. You can comment but don’t try to reply them.
GEJ appointed his ministers on the 27th of June. I bet they didn’t know. LOOL someone said PDP should re-strategize and they will support massively…..LOOOOL I hear!! The support that landed them in Otueke. Kikikiki!!
Buhari till 2019, if e pain you together with the izal go hug transformer and this time it will shock you cause Buhari has improved electricity(almost steady light now).APC- ASO ROCK!! PDP-OTUOKE!!

Moji, Moji, Mojiet, Your mouth is smelling. Enhn, yes, go and ask someone to smell it. This platform is free. Use ur brain dat is if you have a functioning one. Argue intelligently. Counter what people are saying about Buhari that you do not like. Why the childish abuse?

Sooo, GEJ failed, we should watch Buhari fail too. Where is the change APC promised? I can tell you also tell lies. Look at your mouth, it is bleeding. Do you even know the meaning of the word “strategy” or you heard people talking and you are here spilling a word whose meaning you don’t understand. There is no strategy. The man lacks ideas. He is old PERIOD!

You people should leave election campaign behind. Now is reality and Buhari is failing big time.

    • MrsID

      June 15, 2015 at 10:47 pm

But wasn’t GEJ already a president as per Yar’Adua’s death and he had ministers before the election so the country wasn’t on auto pilot.

It was unfortunate? Anyways, I have friends who voted for him partly because they can’t afford to feed their kids 3 times a day. The idea of free lunch was pleasing to them. I don’t know every Nigerian’s problem. So i used something I have first hand knowledge of as an example. I do want him to succeed o, by all means. We will be better for it.

Power generation did not improve because Buhari took over power, the issue is that during Jonathan’s time he was being sabotaged.

    • Olori Tari

      June 16, 2015 at 6:48 am

Then technically to the average man who is enjoying this it has improved! Whether sabotaged or not but if your claim is true, if he was still there then it will still be very bad! But someone else is there and it has improved…so i gats add that to his praises. Like if I was in a boarding school for instance and I’ve been suffering because no food from the kitchen yet I’m hearing that Mrs principal and food is being sabotaged that’s why there’s no food and I’m starving with all the excuses. So then we protest and sack the principal…a new woman comes and there’s regular food (could care less if it’s the same food she brought out)…it’s the new principal that improved the situation oo!

Did he really ask that question? Nothing is working in this country! Appoint these ministers and heads of institutions. I mean by now you are supposed to know who is getting what, when and why. That’s not rocket science from someone who has been contesting for this post for over 10yrs. He’s been travelling from one country to another, the same thing most people were against during GEJ’s tenure . Please Mr President get this country running. .. start with the fulfilling of your promises. … tick! Tock! Time is going fast. Last but not least enough with the blame game….quit it already it’s pathetic….

it is obvious that gmb and his supporters had lost touch with the reality of this millinium. if not, how on this earth will a president run a nation withiout his ministers for almost a month and does not know that the country will not function. anyway i am not surprise!! he cant give what he does not have.
