Ogwashi-Uku carnival
is  basically a dance  fiesta meant to promote brotherhood , co-existence and the image of Ogwashi-Uku through culture and dance, in order to attract progress and development.

 It is a yearly three days fiesta that involves carnival float procession. cultural dance display , football competition, quiz competition and talent hunt / display
According to the Director of Operations, Uche Nwulu the carnival which started in December 2010 is celebrated with pump and pageantry,and serves as a Springboard to tourism attraction and investment for potential development in Ogwashi- Uku Delta state, this he said is the dream of the Initiator and President of the dance carnival, Anthonia Oguah. Explaining further the DO said that, it is their hope that with consistency on their part and with the right sponsorship deals that Ogwashi-Uku carnival will reach its zenith in no distant time to the amazement and appreciation of all, he said that they have planned a robust carnival to celebrate the 6th edition of the fiesta. He also used the  opportunity to shower encomium on MTN, he lauded the telecommunications giant for their recent interest to sponsor the 2015 edition, and on behalf of the entire carnival crew he thanked MTN for their support in the past editions as well, he however pleaded, with other corporate organizations to look inwards and tap from the dance carnival which has within its short period of it’s creation arrested the social life of the community which is strategically placed, with less than twenty minutes drive from the Delta state capital Asaba and the Delta state  domestic Airport. Uche Nwulu noted that the dance carnival has helped to increase the mass exodus of holiday makers to Delta state  during the yuletide. He said with such attraction, brand owners are assured of a bumper product sales during the fiesta.
In conclusion, the DO said that it is the hope and prayer of the organizers that the 6th edition  will help to stimulate the interest of private developers and corporate organizations to funding the proposed Carnival Village coming soon, a tourist heaven to be sited at Ogwashi-Uku  he proudly said “Ogwashi-Uku carnival is the hidden secret of Delta state”.

 

The Carnival Program
Ogwashi-Uku dance carnival begins on the 24th with an elaborate road show festival that serves as the icing to the three days event, it involves paying homage to all the clans (Ogbe) that makes up the Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom as a show of respect and solidarity, and helps to activate the mood of the season. The road show festival provides an opportunity for the carnival crew to make brief dance displays at various popular areas of the community to entertain passers –by and carnival enthusiast. The road show/homage starts at 10amand closes between the hours of 5pm-6pm.

December 25th

The main carnival day is on the 25th December, Christmas day. It is a spectators delight, and as part of the celebration of Christmas the D-day is celebrated with lots of funfair and razzmatazz which usually begins at 12noon with colourful vehicular procession, costume display, cultural dance display and the Children Xmas party. The main carnival day serves as a day for community re-union as all clans within the kingdom is represented in their best costume show casing their artifacts and historical heritage. Equally on display is the rich Olobo masquerade which is a part of the heritage of the Ogwashi-uku kingdom, invited dance groups from other parts of the country and the state equally display their dance and cultural heritage during the Festival. The main carnival ends at 7pm, giving way to the Musical night concert that features invited musical artists for the night.

26th December Carnival Dinner Party
The night is celebrated for sons and daughters and serves as a gathering to meet and deliberate on the achievements recorded in the year in the community while mapping out way forward in the preceding year. This year, Awards of recognition will be given to nominated indigenes who contributed to the improvement of the community, the award is meant to thank the awardees and to encourage more indigenes on the need to help improve the social and economic life of the community.

Adding her voice, Anthonia Oguah the Founder and President of this laudable event,  urged all lovers of festivals and carnivals to keep December 25th, 2015 open for the biggest dance fiesta in Delta-state, Nigeria.
