8 Killed in Taraba as Protests Escalate over Election Tribunal Ruling

Following news over the weekend that the Taraba State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja  ruled that Hajia Aisha Alhassan, the APC candidate of the April 11 gubernatorial polls in the state was the rightful winner of the election, violent protests broke out.

The protests, which erupted in  Wukari town in the state, resulted in the death of 8 people, and 30 people sustaining injuries Vanguard reports.

According to the report, “Some touts were said to have taken advantage of the anti-ruling protests to unleash mayhem while some residents fled their homes to the bush for safety. Gunshots also permeated the air earlier in the day before the deployment of security agents to restore order.”
