“To Police a State with over 21 Million People Requires a lot more than Additional Policemen” – Gov. Ambode

Ambode SecurityDuring a dinner organized in honour of outgoing and incoming members of the board of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode called for the support of the private sector in the fight against insecurity in the state.

He stated:

“With the reality that there are not enough security operatives to secure the state, the next level is to invest in the right technology which will help in the fight against crime. The state needs CCTV in all public places and data of all suspected criminal elements. It is important for police stations to have technology to access data from all over the world so as to make the tracking of criminals easier. To police a state with over 21 million people requires a lot more than additional policemen. I urge members of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund and the private sector to help in the area of investing more on technology, which is not cheap, hence the need for massive support for the government.”

Dear Governor Ambode, Former Governor Fashola did much more with the same amount of Police officers in Lagos.

Clueless man. Better ask Fashola for advise on how he handled security in his time instead of complaining ur tenure away and receiving guests n taking pictures. mcheew. what is all this? even all these shows happening around xmas, i am not attending anything at night because of the terrible things happening. should i now resort to keeping a machete in the car when driving around?

This guy is freaking clueless and is single handedly wrecking this state day by day. He needs to get the hell out of there and let someone more competent do the job. #ImpeachAmbode

Ambode is all talk, no productive action. Infact, his presence is very annoying. Your state is in a “state of emergency”, you are walking around with your pot belly talking rubbish.
Lagosians get ready for another election, Ambode needs to be impeached and put in someone who’s capable to make Lagos better.

Pride is hindrance to progress. Nigerians are too prideful to learn and grow. They get into office, instead of focusing on important issues, they are focused on getting back at who they don’t like based on stupid personal agenda

CCTV in all public spaces, more technology for police officers. Ha! Do these police stations even have running water? Yet he really believes they will be able to operate functional technological equipment. Ok o.

Lol Ambode is not in America. Police can’t even handle robbers or answer emergency immediately in most cases. Is it now CCTV that will work? Will CCTV stop the hoodlums??? Fashola did well with the same amount of security officers . He should ask his predecessor for help or he may serve only one term in Lagos. Jimi Agbaje was the better choice. But we all wanted ‘continuity’. This man has excuses.

Lagos is experiencing fuel/water/job/power scarcity and an increase in robberies, food prices, rape reports and to make matter worse their are more fake products circulated in Lagos than ever before, in one week I have tasted fake ribena/powerhouse/St remi, I have never experienced it in my life everything looks the same I don’t even know how you can tell the difference up until you take a long gulp and you have a bitter taste afterwards

This is the price that we have to pay, when we didn’t match and fight to make shasore or jimi abaje our governor, so let us bask in it well.

This same Lagos that was much more safer earlier this year before you came into office? Even during the election period when everybody expected chaos, it was relatively safe. Ambo Abeg face your work and leave all these tales.

The delusional dreams that this man spouts all the time makes me wonder how Tinubu who is often a good recruiter of executive talent ended up with this character.
For his impressive educational qualifications, Ambode sounds alien and out of touch with the realities on ground. For a man who has lived and worked in Lagos, he sounds like he just relocated from Sydney or Hong Kong to become Lagos state governor.
When he proffers solutions, they sound extremely long term and futuristic.
Is he actually wanting to have a database of all criminal elements? In a state where there are no borders? Does he know how many people come into Lagos daily? Those he have a rough estimate of the agberos in Lagos?

Dear Ambode, the security issue in Lagos might be humongous but the immediate attention we need do not need all these fanciful stories you are telling.
A dozen armed policemen in Onikan from 5am to 9am (and 5pm to 10pm) will do us some good.
    Same at Abongbon.
    Same at Mile 2.
    Same at Oworo.
    Same around toll gate.

What will it take and how long do you need to put functional street lights on the 3 major bridges in Lagos and adjourning turn-offs?

How many smash and grab traffic robbers have been apprehended?

Dude, enough of these excuses of yours. you had months to prepare for governance and I am sure you already started eyeing Alausa since you early retirement years ago. You already knew about the limited number of police in Lagos state. Were complaints the only plan you had?

Jagaban, better call your boy to order. Fashola was no saint but mediocrity was not t he hallmark of his administration. Your boy is failing and we are not finding it funny at all.

Oh dear, is it that Fashola did not leave handover notes for Ambode. This was not what we were expecting, Somebody should please help us now. There as been a slight improvement in traffic, but the roads need to be fixed. I agree with @Tari, all those dark spots need t0 be manned by armed police men

Mr governor, you and I both know that CCTV is impractical in lagos at moment… An immediate solution to all the robberies taking place in Lagos is to simply limit the number of police men attached to private individuals considerably, and redeploy them to known areas of robberies on the public roads/ areas. I didn’t say totally eliminate police guarding private citizens because that would be wishful thinking in naija, you also need a person that heads up the security apparatus of lagos with an in depth understanding of the security challenges faced and how to address them strategically

Ambode is another Goodluck Jonathan: intellectual but clueless about governance….
It’s high time people knew that Academic prowess does not equal good governance skills…
The act of governing is a different skill that has to be either learnt thru a mentor or an inborn skill..

    • Tari

      November 19, 2015 at 11:56 am

      I am feeling you.
This thing of academic qualification is over rated.
That does not mean we need a Buhari in the 21st century though.
One quick point, there is nothing intellectual about Jonathan. Every time I hear the man talk, I begin to look at my Uniport graduate friends with suspicion. The man sounds dafter than some uneducated men. You just can’t pin point his thought process. At least we know Buhari is barely literate, so it is understandable but for a PhD holder, GEJ is an apology.
For a man who broke several records in his school days, Ambode is a huge disappointment. It is from dawn tha twe know how a day will be.
We cannot carry mediocre leaders in this age and time. It is like Manchester United carrying Wayne Rooney along. It is painful to watch and counter productive.
Jagaban, please talk to you boy.

    • Brizola

      November 19, 2015 at 3:53 pm

You are very stupid for this statement. You actually sound and write “dafter” with this rubbish you spilled here. GeJ an apology?, Is he not better than all the presidents and head of states from 1960 till date? Can your present president speak English correctly. The internets has given idiots like you the opportunity to share your cluelessness to the world. GEJ inability to communicate doesn’t make him less intellectual than any PHD holder out there, You my dear Tari is the apology.

    • Tari

      November 19, 2015 at 5:12 pm

@Brizola, from the shallowness of your comment, the world wide web can and will judge in whose bosom lies inherent daftness. If GEJ is your idea of intellectuality, then you of all men are most miserable.
We are hear to discuss the mediocrity of Ambode that is putting our lives at risk. Pls stop derailing the discussion.

      Have a good evening.

You’re dealing with a problem that needs at least some kind of short term resolution and you’re talking about massive databases and CCTV, measures that would probably take years to implement effectively, in a city where electricity isn’t even a certainty. I want to say Fashola should try to help this guy small but he’s starting to strike me as someone who can’t/won’t hear other people’s advice. What a shame.

    • Toyosi

      November 19, 2015 at 10:50 pm

Fashola can’t give him advise, he’s making it seem like BRF caused all this nonsense.

Data from all over the world?! I’m convinced this man has a substance abuse problem. He always sounds like he’s away with the fairies. First it was 3 helicopters. 3 specifically as well. Now its CCTV in a country with no national database. I am 37 years old and an office manager with 7 people reporting to me. My job requires efficient and effective resource management and I can guarantee that I can do a better job than dude.

The only similarity between Gej and Ambode is that they both drink too much. One na ogogoro master and the other na Heneiken get am. At least Gej employed people with brains to help run the show. Ambode abeg do the same. If you can’t cope as Lagos is overwhelming, try get one second in command with brain well set. After all Pmb has El Rufai behind him controlling things. Better do something before something do us for dis Lagos o.

Please how can I work with Lagos State?
I don’t know if this guy is sharp and he can’t become sharp this year or next. O wa quite dull. What we can do is pray, let God help us this season. It’s not sharp of me to yap the governor if I want to work in his government, I know.

CCTV ? With no national database? This man spews utter rubbish many a time. Shaking my head in disbelief. Reminds me of the parable of this talents…Ambode appears to be an empty barrel. If this continue like this till May 2016 he should be impeached.

Don’t mind him, let him and his team be thinking with their anus.

This is beyond personnel and tech stuff. Consult with high institution don and experts. A lot of research and recommendation have been made.

I didn’t wanted to read this article initially but why I decided poke deeper for the sign I want which I saw the tech things, I thought yes, that’s the deal.

Govt will never learn. They’ll shunning solutions they felt will not fetch them money or be of advantage to them. And this is the practice in many countries including the so called developed nations but the degrees differ based on my interaction. The recommendation, research results and solutions made by their schools are majorly never implemented.
