Children’s Day: Gov. Obiano Commends Anambra School Children
Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra has commended school children in the state for their excellent performance in both national and international competitions and examinations, promising to protect their rights.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Obiano expressed this view at Children’s Day parade at Ekwueme’s Square, Awka, on Friday, where he took the salute.
“With the exploits our children are recording both at national and international level too numerous to mention, I will do more for them in uplifting their well-being. Recently, NECO Registrar visited me and revealed that in the 2015 examination of the body, Anambra students recorded over 80 per cent success in subjects English and Mathematics,” he said.
Earlier, in his address of welcome, Edden Abara, the Speaker, 6th Children’s Parliament, urged the governor to enhance the protection of children by providing adequate security in schools.
“Empowering of guardians and councillors units in schools for children to have direction in life and the implementation of our resolution is vital,” he said.
Highlights of the occasion included march past won by Girls Secondary School, Awka, in the first place while St. John of God Secondary School, Awka, and Nneoma Community Secondary School, Nibo, second and third respectively.
For primary schools, Ikwodiaku Primary School, Ezi-Awka Primary School and Nnebuzo Primary School, all in Awka, came first , second and third, respectively in their category.
There were also cultural dances to entertain the children at the event.
