An attack on American University of Afghanistan (AUAF), Kabul ended in the early hours of Thursday morning with fifteen people dead, a police spokesman said.

Basir Mujahid said seven civilians and three attackers were among the dead and between 30 and 35 people were injured.

Security forces surrounded the American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) on Wednesday after militants launched an attack at around 7pm local time.

Faraidon Obaidi, head of Kabul’s police criminal investigation department, said there were only two attackers, both of whom were shot dead by security forces.

Security forces were forced to move slowly in ending the attack because 700 students were on campus when it began, police said.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
