“What I’m doing is good for the United States. It’s also going to be good for Mexico” – President Trump, as he Signs Executive Order on Border Wall

U.S. President Donald Trump, center, holds up a signed executive order at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in Washington, D.C. U.S., on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017. Trump acted on two of the most fundamental — and controversial — elements of his presidential campaign, building a wall on the border with Mexico and greatly tightening restrictions on who can enter the U.S.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed directives to build a wall along the U.S. border with Mexico and crack down on U.S. cities that shield illegal immigrants.

Trump, at the signing ceremony, said he would proceed quickly on sweeping plans to curb immigration and boost national security, according to Reuters.

The Republican president is also expected to take steps in the coming days to limit legal immigration.

The steps in the coming days include executive orders restricting refugees and blocking the issuing of visas to people from several Middle Eastern and North African countries including Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Iraq, Iran, Libya and Yemen.

Trump signed the two executive orders at the Department of Homeland Security, one of them ordering construction of a wall along the roughly 3,200-kilometres U.S.-Mexico border.

The other order moves to strip Federal grant money from “sanctuary” states and cities, often governed by Democrats, which harbour illegal immigrants.

“The American people are no longer going to have to be forced to subsidise this disregard for our laws,” White House spokesman Sean Spicer said.

In an interview with ABC News on Wednesday, Trump said construction on the wall would start within months, with planning starting immediately, and that Mexico would pay back to the U.S. “100 percent” of the costs.

Mexican officials have said they would not pay for the wall.

During a White House briefing, Spicer referred to the wall as “a large physical barrier on the southern border”.

“Building this barrier is more than just a campaign promise, it’s a common sense first step to really securing our porous border.”

“This will stem the flow of drugs, crime, illegal immigration into the United States,” Spicer said.

Trump has long said that he will make Mexico pay for the wall.

“We’ll be reimbursed at a later date from whatever transaction we make from Mexico.”

“I’m just telling you there will be a payment. It will be in a form, perhaps a complicated form. What I’m doing is good for the United States.”

“It’s also going to be good for Mexico. We want to have a very stable, very solid Mexico,” Trump told ABC on Wednesday.

Trump made cracking down on illegal immigration a key element of his presidential campaign, with supporters often chanting “Build the wall,” during his rallies.

The cost, nature and extent of the wall remain unclear.

Trump last year put the cost at “probably eight billion dollars”, although other estimates are higher, and said the wall would span 1,600 kilometres because of the terrain of the border.

His plans prompted an immediate outcry from immigrant advocates who said Trump was jeopardising the rights and freedoms of millions of people.

So, the money will eventually come from taxpayers. The wall is estimated to cost close to $28 billion dollars. The federal debt is currently a trillion. Republicans fought against and criticized Obama on the debt issue. So, the wall is more important than Affordable healthcare that will benefit millions of America? Two wars under Bush/Republicans and now the U.S Mexico border wall. I guess, U.S will file for bankruptcy at some point based on Trump’s history in business,

The US filing for bankruptcy, it doesn’t work that way.

I assume you’re joking though. ‘sides, let’s stay observing, like play, Mexico will really end up paying for it.

Damilola….Taaaaaaa…..Affordable health care is not affordable #Fact…and if you can’t afford it you get fined under the shared responsibility penalty..How is that affordable? The 20 million ppl who signed up signed cos of fear of penalty / IRS wahala not cos of its affordability. Obama wired over $200Million to the Palestians the week before he left and spent money supporting rebels in Libya, Syria and hosting rappers @ the white house…All tax payers money….Stop being one sided…Even Bill Clinton was caught saying Obama Care is ridiculous….You can like the person of Barack Obama but his health care program is crap..Its not even close to what Canada has let alone the Scandinavian European countries…Big scam….

    • Damilola

      January 26, 2017 at 7:05 am

You are clearly speaking out of ignorance. First of all, affordable health care is not crap. It has benefited low income, pregnant women and college students. Be informed next time before you speak. Yes, there’s some glitch, imperfection because you adjust along the way but to say it’s a scam will be a BIG lie. I know people firsthand and read feedbacks who has benefited from it.

Obama went through hell to pass it, so there’s no way it can be like the other country because it’s still in the early stage and Republicans want to stop it without giving it time to grow.
The same affordable care is practiced in Massachusetts, it’s worked fine. And it was signed in by Republicans. So I don’t understand the fuss Republicans are making about it. Oh, they just don’t like the name Obama, it’s a black man

You know this border thing will actually benefit you Americans.
Now, automobile companies who took their companies out of America because of the high tax rate are under panic to return back to the US. Therefore, creating more jobs for you people.
Before, they cared less because they could always pass their automobile through the porpous border.
You people just don’t want to give this man an audience.
You must not criticize everything he does.
      E concern me??

[email protected]…You are telling a health care adminstrator who has worked in US healthcare as an admin for over 11 years his ignorant? I like Obama but unfortunately ACA is very unaffordable. This is not about sentiments or emotions . Every one in the healthcare industry agrees including all the doctors working under me. Yes some part of it like not denying ppl with pre -existing conditions coverage is good but the whole policy is complicated. Even Democrats agree with Republicans especially on keeping those parts like I mentioned but a replacement is inevitable. I wonder where you get you information ……A policy that was repelled on first day of a new government/ adminstration is nothing but bad. Get over your ego and emotion. Obama is not god. He can do some wrong too.

You still haven’t given legitimate reasons why you think AHC is bad though. You are accusing me of something you are clearly guilty of. I have pointed out some beneficial part. I’ve made it clear it needs some adjustment and I’m open to other alternatives but to say it’s a complete fail is a disservice. Trump said he will keep some part of it. Republicans haven’t even elaborated on the functionality part of it and why it won’t work. They just say it’s bad with no replacement.

Doctors said it’s bad, Trump is repealing therefore it’s bad. C’mon now!!! Keep in mind, the main purpose of AHC is for Americans who are not able to afford health insurance. Why don’t you explain how it will affect health professional like yourself.

he is not even up to 1 week in office and he has fullfilled most of his compaign promises. which president has ever done that.

this wall is good. if u want to enter america u enter the legal way. its better and safer and its in ur own interest.
u have papers, nobody can harass u, employers can’t treat u like trash. if u know what all these huge manufacturing companies do to illegal undocumented mexicans. they use them anyhow and dispose them. I watched a documentary about it and I was in shock. they pay them pennies and dispose them when they are done

trump is also banning 6 muslim countries from gaining visa into america which is also fantastic. look at Europe look at Germany. see what muslim refugees are doing. every week a rape incident or a murder incident carried out by a muslim refugee.

this man has balls biko. other European countries will soon follow.

It’s easy to sign executive orders what comes after is what matters. Trump is still in the honeymoon stage, reality will soon hit him and Americans. He’s hasn’t fulfilled his campaign promises because no immediate action or result has happened yet. It’s still all talk and paper.

Republicans have the senate and house, so its to their advantage compared to when they will attack Obama on every bill and give him a difficult time.

Did you vote in the U.S? Are you an American citizen? Or you are just talking rubbish because you actually sound very stupid.
I could care less if Trump won. I am a conservative, so I don’t have any problem with some of Republican ideology/policies. Trump is a bully, demagogue and it’s a fact.
The problem here is, giving Trump credit and praising him for just signing orders when he has four years to go. A lot of work needs to be done in the next four years, so let’s wait for at least two years because this dude is all for himself and his wealthy friends.

    • Dtruth

      January 26, 2017 at 4:20 pm

Damilola …Yes I am an American citizen and what has that got to do with Obama Care being a very flawed health policy? I am a health care professional and I am talking from a professional standpoint in regards to ObamaCare. I don’t know any doctor who is in total agreement with it. Did I vote? Sorry that is inconsequential. Have a great day

    • Damilola

      January 26, 2017 at 5:08 pm

Now you’ve changed your tone. Saying Obamacare has flaws makes a little more sense than saying it’s a Scam or crap because it projects your ignorance.
There are millions of American without health insurance because it’s quite expensive to get one especially when your employer doesn’t cover you. It’s also a lot of work to find the perfect insurance package for yourself or family.
Under Obamacare he extended the age to 26 of being under your parent’s insurance and many college students benefited from that. And it saves you some tuition fees where you don’t have to purchase school insurance. I benefitted from it as a student.

Coal miners had huge benefit from Obamacare because it covered any respiratory illness they might have and it was hard finding insurance company to cover that prior. Many of them voted Trump but hope to keep Obamacare.

There’s maternity coverage for pregnant women where a lot of their prenatal services was covered or paid less than the usual price. People from low income were able to receive free medical services. There are some benefits in it.

However, people with pre existing health care insurance and health care professionals will be affected differently and different experience. P
If Trump/Republicans can come up with an alternative where middle and lower class benefit from it not just big insurance companies or private medical institutions I have no problem with it.

You can’t imagine how i feel reading this while having my Latino neighbors regularly disturb us with loud spanish music and loud conversations in Spanish. I am not one to discriminate but when a people move to another country and cannot exercise decorum or even attempt to learn the language of that country, then it gets really annoying.

I remember a time we had a party organized by the leasing office in my apartment complex and the mexicans were blowing spanish up and down, infact the music we had to listen to was Spanish, I had to ask myself if I was living in Mexico or the US. The Black people looked like we came visiting as the Latinas took over the whole place. I braved the odds and my family went to seat close to them, next thing, they spoke to each other in Spanish and started leaving one by one.

As I don’t even send them before, I balanced well on the chair and chowed down my hot dog and cheetos. Good riddance.

No one is not saying he doesn’t have balls. He has always had them, but for every action, there is an equal and opposing reaction. Build wall oh, don’t build wall, people whether by air or road will still come and stay in the USA. When you the USA destroy other countries with your backhanded bullying tactics and business practices what do you expect? From slavery till now the US and other countries have been milking other countries of their resources for their own glory, so what do they want people to do? Stay in their countries they’ve raped and left for dead to suffer? It doesn’t work that way… So executive order or no executive order, America is a country of laws. Lawsuits challenging and tying it up will begin too and we’ll see exactly what he accomplishes at the end of the day…

Damilola to show the level of your ignorance you asserted the ACA is practised in Massachusetts and forgot to mention it was Mitt Romney’s brainwork which Obama obviously copied. Yes it can work in Massachusetts but that does not gaurantee it will be effective nation wide. You are just an Obama lover regardless of his shortcomings. I mean like a religious fanatic who see no any wrong in their own faith. I understand your feelings ( We all are going to miss Obama) but at the end of the day your belief is not always true or fact.

    • Damilola

      January 26, 2017 at 2:55 pm

It seems like you suffer from dementia or you are just retarded. Go read my comment again. I mentioned it was signed, implemented by Republicans which obviously translates into Mitt Romney when he was governor. Obama made it clear he used Massachusetts as a reference, precedent to make it universal.
It doesn’t mean it’s going to be as effective nationwide but giving it a try is not a crime. My point was Republicans are so against Obamacare like he’s doing something unheard of. Many Americans are not aware ACA and obamacare is the same thing. They say they want ACA but not obamacare.
To repeal, you need a replacement let’s see what Trump/Republicans have in store.

I think its high time Nigerians start taking analgesics for their pain and not others’. America, whether you like it or not will survive. We don’t even have a government with a clear agenda and we’re here debating the world’s greatest country’s issues. When will we have the “balls” to speak up against bad governance. Not one single mass protest since Buharinomics started biting hard. Are we really all talk, no action?
