Much ado about jollof rice. As if it’s the only meal we have to offer. The other day I read a post here on how Sisi Yemi and Fregz did a collabo in the kitchen and produced jollof rice. Two ‘celebrity chefs’ entered the kitchen and all they came up with was the same recycled, overrated, easy to make jollof rice.
I wish our media personalities and influencers could talk less about jollof rice. It sounds lazy and uncreative. There’s a lot about Nigerian or West African cuisine that has not been explored. Enough of the jollof rice talk.

Come to think of it … There is no tribe in Nigeria that is “wollof ” from which the word “Jollof” came it is of Sene-Gambia origin hence the word jollof rice, broadly speaking the musician is not wrong. if it was gbegiri and lafun, ema and ogbono soup or owo and plantain, ofe owerri and akpu. Then I will say they are indisputably nigerian!

Jollof is not Nigerian. There are no Nigerian jollofs. Therefore there is no such thing as Nigerian jollof. Same goes for Ghana. This is nothing more than banter and if you don’t know who the jolo/wolof are, read a book. Or Google.

It is about time Nigeria’s version of Jollof shines globally and all haters out their stick to kenkey and fried fish! If the Wolof tribe from Senegal keep mum over their invention, Nigerians will promote their own version. Their is room for everyone to celebrate.
