"I love you more each day" - Barack Obama writes Heartwarming Birthday Post for Michelle - BellaNaija

It’s former US First Lady Michelle Obama‘s birthday, and to celebrate, her husband, Barack Obama, on his Instagram, wished her a happy one.

“You’re not only my wife and the mother of my children, you’re my best friend. I love your strength, your grace, and your determination. And I love you more each day. Happy Birthday, @MichelleObama,” he wrote, sharing a photo of the two of them.

Barack Obama also sent flowers to her office and a sweet note to go with. Michelle posted a photo of the flowers on Instagram and wrote:

Thank you @BarackObamafor the beautiful flowers waiting for me in the office this morning. You’re my best friend, biggest fan, and getting notes and flowers from you will never get old. And to the many people from around the country who sent cards and posted on social media, you have no idea how much we love hearing from you. I know birthdays can sometimes be bittersweet (54!), but your messages of hope, generosity, and warmth have always reminded me how lucky and blessed we are.

Please, you think the hypocritical racist white men didn’t try to find anything to discredit Obama when he was in office? You didn’t see any scandal because there’s nothing to find!!!

Obama propagates gay like his life depends on it. Why is he not gay?

Father I pray thee, make my marriage like the Obamas so that even when im old and grey I can still look at my wife and still have butterflies for her, rather than the overwhelming feeling and urge to either pack it in or better still blow my brains out with a glock

You don’t know what you are saying! You better ask God to make your marriage peaceful and enjoyable. It’s IG post you’re looking at.

Deleke, in all the time you have spent in Bellanaija, you haven’t learnt yet???? Stop praying to be like someone. You don’t know the demons they face.

In a country where high-profile strong black marriages are few and far between, and aren’t spotlighted nearly enough ..mostly because of hardened stereotypes that tend to minimize and dismiss them,

      In a country where black women, and especially, dark skinned black women, are generally overlooked, and mostly treated as ‘undesirable’, and unworthy of chivalry, love, doting.. ..(hence the proliferation of bleaching creams);

In a country where a lot of young black people generally grow up seeing very few strong, loving, healthy, intact black marriages –

How positively impactful and wonderful it’s been to watch the Obamas on the world stage, model that strong, healthy, respectful, loving, committed marriage ..

The Obamas are a relatively young couple – part of Generation X; They are an active and vibrant couple who like everyone else, are constantly adapting to ever changing times – culturally and technologically..

Like so many other culturally and technologically attuned couples – including other high-profile couples, – the Obamas typically post messages to each other just about 4-5 times a year: To mark special occasion: such as Birthdays, Wedding Anniversary, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day… They also post a message together at Christmas etc,

It might feel like a lot more because of the endless reposts by others..including loads of thrilled Americans- and others from around the world, who end up sharing said messages..

The Obamas are first and foremost, an American couple; Your historical and cultural sensibilities and perspectives as a Nigerian, are entirely different from theirs.

They remain for many young black Americans however, and for even some non-black Americans too, not just prominent political figures, but cultural icons and strong role models-

This is not – and will never really be about you; Your poo-poohing notwithstanding..

Where you might be ‘bored’, and some others on this post express spiteful skepticism and maliciously root against the Obamas, there are so many millions more young people, black Americans in particular, who can’t get enough of them. Those are the people who matter in the end. Young black people who now only know what a loving, respectful, committed marriage is by watching the Obamas on the world stage, model it; Kids born into single parent households, etc., …and black women (and men), who are very proud of, and remain thoroughly inspired by the Obamas as a couple – and the loving, healthy, respectful, committed, marriage they effortlessly model –
