With velvet, silks, African and geometric patterns, the Nigerian label Odio Mimonet presents a collection that is oozing in elegance. The intricate details melt in the jewels tones and the cuts of her designs make them move easily across the body. The collection is an embodiment of perfect lines and finishes, finely articulated structures and confidence with an eccentric twist.

its hard work I know, yet I dont see Odio as a designer she just makes cloths. There is no clear pattern to her designs always all over the place.

is Claudy Acheampong, Christie Brown’s personal assistant?? have you been put up by her team to come and insult Nigerian designers. watch yourself before she starts getting slated for your evil antics. you are rather bringing darkness to her name than helping her. Some of us know CB and she doesnt need vampires like you around her to bring down her achievements. Use your tongue well before you lose it.
i have just discovered this website and i am really proud with what all the designers are doing. I think it’s refreshing to see soo much bright talent coming out from what has always been deemed as the dark continent i am very proud, whether the designer is Ghananian, Nigerian, or Ugandans we are one people and we should support one another.

First of all, if you’re going to say that Nigerian designers are not creative, you might have to come out here and check out what’s going on.
The reason why you don’t think you see originality is because Odio Mimonet has been designing dresses for the last 17 years and a lot of newer designers have been trying to emulate her style. So honestly she got there first; the only designer out there that was doing her thing on the low during that time is Deola Sagoe. Secondly, Odio only just released a ready to wear line in 2006, which is probably why most of the mainstream population had not heard of her. Prior to that, its was made to measure clothes. And ask around, people weren’t incorporating ankara and prints with everyday wear before that. Thirdly, Game recognize Game, I was at the Vlisco 2009 fashion show, and she brought the thunder. The crowd went nuts when the models showed up, especially in the outfits with the hoods; even haters had to recognize and pay homage. Even the other designers had to bow; Vlisco wouldn’t be coming to do a fashion show here if Nigeria didn’t have talent. And thats just my objective opinion, not my blind bias.
Just a little inside knowledge for you, if you didn’t already know all that.
