A limited special edition issue of Golden Icons Magazine featuring NFL Star, Amobi Okoye, powered by Invictus91 has been published. This exclusive issue will only be available via The Amobi Okoye Foundation special events across the United States, and during their annual trip event to Africa.

Okoye is a philanthropist who has visited several kids in the hospital, provided gifts, mentored children, handed out several scholarships, fed the hungry, provided medical care, and instilled the importance of education to ensure a better life for the next generation. These are just a few things this young man has done since beginning his foundation.

As he does every off-season, Okoye will be visiting his native country Nigeria in a few weeks, to increase interest in American football on the continent of Africa and give back to the community in which he was born. Okoye’s charity organization, the Amobi Okoye Foundation, Inc., organizes the Changing Africa Through Education (CATE) mission trip to Africa each year. The annual accompaniment includes Okoye’s family, local college students and several NFL players. “Each year the trip gains more and more momentum,” Okoye said. “As the CATE mission grows, so does international interest in the continent of Africa.”

This year’s CATE participants include Frank Okam, Connor Barwin and Okoye of the Houston Texans, and James Ihedigbo of the New York Jets. The players will visit Nigeria’s largest city, Lagos, as well as Delta and Anambra states on their 13 day journey.

Okoye and company will spend their time teaching kids the game of American football, volunteering at the Okoye Foundation’s cancer clinic, distributing the 100,000 textbooks

collected from the Houston Independent School District, and delivering medical supplies to local hospitals.

The Okoye Foundation will also award 20 full college scholarships to Nigeria’s brightest student-athletes. The Okoye Foundation amplifies CATE’s success year in and year out by leveraging partnerships with successful and well known organizations such as Nike— which will provide sporting equipment for the Kickoff 4 Kids Camp and the African Cancer Care Incorporated (ACCI), which will dispatch over a dozen doctors to provide free cancer screening, education and care for treatable diseases at the foundation’s clinic.

“Last year a Houston non-profit called Medical Bridges donated a 40-foot container full of medical supplies. This year with the help of ACCI, James (Ihedigbo), and some other generous sponsors we are going to do the same thing.” Okoye said.

The Okoye Foundation is currently working with local officials in Nigeria to build a sports academy that will provide its students with a quality education and the opportunity to learn the game of American football.

    • honeybee March 1, 2011 at 1:09 PM

@Ohmigash, yeah sista, as an Anambra-girl-by-association myself, i gots to say, I think it’s in the water!Anambra men are hawt, hawt, hawt!
That said, kudos to you, Amobi, and to all Naija athletes out there keeping it real and doing their best to spread the love in Naija itself. God will bless your hard work and generous hearts with success!

      • Ohmigash March 1, 2011 at 9:02 PM

I mean am not from naija but i took notice of the anambra men in Chioma and Akolisas wedding fotos and i thought her husband was hella cute plus smart too (all them many degrees) – I swear Anambra got some great waters. I need to move there and find me a tall hunk too. Chei – see fine boy. But 23 – mehn – its too young – he barely had the ability to enter night club for yankee. Lol

    • Ohmigash March 1, 2011 at 8:59 PM

chei just looking at him is doing me something

    • Chioma Oyi March 1, 2011 at 11:24 PM

Fine, plus he has alot of money.. Saw it online that he has a $15 million dollar contract. To me, Age ain’t nothing but a number, I’m 30 years old, and i don’t mind at all.. forget old men that can’t even afford to eat out with their lady, what more can i ask for.. he is fine, with alot of cash, I’m not greedy, I don’t need anything else.

    • anonymous March 2, 2011 at 4:05 AM

I actually went to primary school with this guy in nigeria…..he was the one person who always beat me at math….glad to see he’s doing great i’m really proud of him!!!

    • THE AMAKA March 2, 2011 at 4:44 AM

all you old women sef! smh. im under 23…i feel i have a chance. hahahahaha
but who knows? he could like them older…. ;-) haha

    • Tiki March 2, 2011 at 8:34 AM

@THE AMAKA,Ohmigash,Chioma…LOL!see us salivating over the poor guy…and his money…but how for do?He’s fyyyne, talented, ‘monied’…but the age makes it a no-no for me. @THE AMAKA, I bow out gracefully to you – I’m 24 but wouldn’t look at a man under 30, i think they are usually a bit immature. Happy Hunting girls: lemme know how it turns out!

    • yomzieee March 2, 2011 at 10:59 AM

haba @tiki.. usually a bit immature?isnt that too much of a generalisation? you dont like them, no problem but not to knock them like that..because i know 17yr-old women nd 30yr-old girls, same for men too…so you want older? good for you you shall have the desire of your heart but you needn’t generalise
