Chinwe Princess Ejere

As Saturday 3rd of September 2011 drew to a close, there was tension in the air at the Civic Centre in Lagos. The 2011 Elite Model Look Nigeria judges were deliberating their decision, attempting to choose the young model who would represent Nigeria at the 2011 Elite Model Look International competition in China later this year.

This model would join the ranks of Tracy Onyekachukwu, Annette Begg and Chika Emmanuelle who have won previous editions of the Elite Model Look Nigeria competition.

In the end, 17 year old student, Chinwe Princess Ejere was chosen. The striking young model trumped the competition and won the big prize.

Check out exclusive photos of the winner and look out for our report from the event.

      • BeautyAndBrains September 4, 2011 at 6:54 PM

What does this have to do with being Igbo? You can go and collect money from the bank with this info. Hopefully you’ll get $1m for this world-changing discovery.
BellaNaija, I think all these shallow ethnocentric comments need to prohibited on here. Do we hear comments like ‘Oh it’s a Yoruba man’s life is being celebrated internationally on broadway’ or dumb s*** like that? Our differences should be a platform for unity, not separation.
This is what you get when myopic-minded people meet the REAL world! I didn’t know this was a tribal competition. Nonsense.

        • jennietobbie September 4, 2011 at 8:33 PM

          You missed the point. .

        • aw September 4, 2011 at 9:39 PM

          Thank you boss! Well spoken

        • ao September 5, 2011 at 2:36 AM

Calm down. We’re just having a bit of fun. Yes, it makes me proud that an Igbo won the contest; just as it makes me proud that an Igbo created Bella Naija. Conversely, it makes me cringe when an Igbo does not represent him/herself well. One has to take the bitter and the sweet AND Chinwe’s win is the sweet. You’re lucky we didn’t bust out Egedege.

        • http://mynaijalifestyle.blogspot.com September 5, 2011 at 2:48 AM

goodluck girl. being a model is not a piece of cake but God will see u thru

    • SUGAR!! September 4, 2011 at 1:19 PM

      Congratulations girl!!!

    • ogefierce September 4, 2011 at 2:28 PM

No offence but she looks a lil timid to me,i think she lacks confidence which is a must-have for a model…just a thought.

      • gbeborun September 4, 2011 at 3:23 PM

Hate to this but i kinda agree with you,she looks somewhat unsure of what’s happening and the moet bottle looks like its about to hit the floor lol, hopefully wit time she ‘ll become more confident.

      • aw September 4, 2011 at 6:25 PM

Btw, did you read that she’s only 17? And went for a competition of this magnitude? I
think that say enough. The confidence you can’t see in the pictures is most likely there for her to even take such a grande gesture and to win? Camaaan!!

        • gbeborun September 5, 2011 at 9:03 PM

Age doesn’t matter, a model only needs 1 photo to get that big break, that’s what casting agents will look at before she gets a call back so she definitely has to let the confidence show in photos, she is beautiful.

    • hajiya September 4, 2011 at 3:08 PM

she looked sad in d last pic…is she not happy she won?

    • amber rose September 4, 2011 at 3:25 PM

Dsnt hv d grace and buzz of Chika Emmanuel. Now dats a girl dat like

    • zaquisha September 4, 2011 at 3:31 PM

      17yrs ke??? abi na typo?

      • meee September 4, 2011 at 8:22 PM

SERIOUSLY,was gonna say dat too, she doesnt look “17″ to mie ooo

      • Enwongo cleopas September 5, 2011 at 7:04 PM

It really suprises me how people pour their personal frustrations and try to boost their low self esteems in the name of comments. Just congratulate the girl and put your personal observations esp those about her bodily features in your cupboards. Can any of us here create a humanbeing. Plus i wonder who make rules for the perfect shape, body, neck etc before one becomes a model… We’re all beautiful in our own rights. Also she wouldn’t have carried the crown if she never possessed the right attributes required for this competition. Enough said!

    • Beautifulstranger September 4, 2011 at 3:48 PM

Congrats Elohor and Princess, just one observation, why is a 17year old girl allow to pose with champagne knowing the conscious efforts to restrain the access of alcohol to minors? Thats very unethical, Its bad enough these girls are exposed to a tough and wild industry( in which they can easily get swallowed up ) at an early age without so much tutoring of how it really works. Please lets be more responsible. Abeg

      • Clara September 4, 2011 at 5:36 PM

She is holding a bottle and not drinking it. Moet sponsored the show. Congrats Chinwe

    • Beautifulstranger September 4, 2011 at 3:51 PM

#allowed # make una no vex o abeg

    • Obi September 4, 2011 at 4:08 PM

    • ebere September 4, 2011 at 4:24 PM

      Ur locky u know

    • Demmy September 4, 2011 at 4:39 PM

Congratulations to her. It’s nice to know that a teen like me won! :)

    • THE AMAKA September 4, 2011 at 5:27 PM

WOW! the girls they pick every year are always gorgeous! she truly deserves it!
which reminds me, when will we have a Nigeria’s Next Top Model? especially with the way the fashion industry is exploding now.

    • pendo September 4, 2011 at 5:52 PM

lol @Ogefierce i thought so as well but i put it down to being overwhelmed at winning: ) she’s pretty though

    • pendo September 4, 2011 at 5:56 PM

@Beautiful stranger i agree but then it could be “non-alcoholic MOET” though i doubt that very much:)

    • kiki September 4, 2011 at 6:06 PM
    • Kemiismyrealname September 4, 2011 at 6:34 PM

The posing with the champagne is an Edo thing.

Whoever does not like my comment shout all you want. I am from Edo state. Thank you

    • Jay September 4, 2011 at 7:05 PM

Looks more like a beauty pagaent than a model competition. Her hair is too beauty Queen like. I would like to watch this event though. Congrats to Chinwe!

    • Lola September 4, 2011 at 7:23 PM

I noticed dat among the four girls who av won the elite model,3 of them have bin igbo.pls wat gives?how can this not be a tribal issue pls?

      • THE AMAKA September 5, 2011 at 1:33 AM

if the best girl happens to be igbo, then so be it! why are you looking for problems? did you know when i read the list of the girls that would be competeing, only about 3 or 4 of the 14 or 15 or how many there were, were Igbo names. PLEASE, CHILL!

      • THE AMAKA September 5, 2011 at 1:40 AM

never mind, 5 of the total number were Igbo, so chill!

      • Vrooom September 5, 2011 at 5:25 AM

Nonsense, another example why Nigeria will never progress.

    • ivory September 4, 2011 at 7:57 PM

congrats…to her..all the girls are pretty….but she looks older dan her age….

    • toluh September 4, 2011 at 9:48 PM

17??? BN dat mst b a typo error

    • Memoi September 4, 2011 at 10:57 PM

its probably not typo error oooo…. I learnt d previous winner was 15years old, so dis is even an improvement….
How old was Oluchi Onweagba wen she won MNET face of Africa?

    • cool cat September 5, 2011 at 12:50 AM

Pretty girl no doubt but she lacks the fiesty look her predecessors have(annette begg has this to a tee). Also think she’s too “pretty” to be a model, and darker skinned models tend to do better.

3Litre Moet courtesy MR elohor(lol) is a classy touch. I see nothing wrong with being 17, tonnes of models were discovered @ a much younger age, besides, its d life they will be exposed to if they get to work abroad so no need for the over-righteousness. If her parents allowed her to enter the competition knowing the risks, shikena!

    • THE AMAKA September 5, 2011 at 1:35 AM

people also couldnt believe Chika was 15 or 16 when she won. yes they are TALL and they are wearing makeup and “adult-like” clothing so of course they’re all gonna look older than they are. as for the person saying she looks shy, well, DUH, she just won a MAJOR modeling competition and she is in shock. people react to things differently. she is probably just trying to take it all in, give her a break.

    • shade September 5, 2011 at 6:33 AM

She looks more like a beauty queen than a model and I wish she had a longer neck….her neck looks kinda funny

    • anthonia chinwe martyns September 5, 2011 at 7:19 AM

congrat wewe watch me next year elite model look 9ja

    • Moscow September 5, 2011 at 8:54 AM

This is thrilling and i feel she’s got bright prospects on runway modeling. So Goodluck Chinwe.

    • pynk September 5, 2011 at 9:07 AM

congrats to her. I cant draw the line between beauty queens and models in Nigeria though.

    • Chinny September 5, 2011 at 9:44 AM

ahnahn!!! that madam beauty and brains needs to chillax mhenn!! dancing atilogwu with all you lots though.lol but sad my friends younger sis that was the runner up dint win.

    • nabila September 5, 2011 at 11:19 AM

dis gurl is”nt fierce! sorry!! except she”s gonna be a commercial model cnt do high fashion!

    • dewowo September 5, 2011 at 11:38 AM

@ shade, you wish her neck was long & her neck looks funny abi. U r not God. why not concentrate on other parts of her body. . . come to think of it, u saw her short neck she saw the CROWN…hahaaaha

    • Aibee September 5, 2011 at 11:43 AM

Congratulations and good luck. I hope she finds some really nice person to show her the ropes and pitfalls. I also hope she doesn’t cut her hair next. they all seem to do that.

    • Aibee September 5, 2011 at 11:46 AM

Hmmm, seems to me like someone did some ‘altering’ on the last picture. That hand holding the moet seems to have been photoshopped away leaving her with one normal hand and one ‘somalia-starvation’ hand.

Before someone goes all righteous on the somalia metaphor, take a chil pill please.

    • Afronubia September 5, 2011 at 1:56 PM

Chika Emmanuel beats this chick hands down abeg. Chika looks like a model. Chinwe is fine but she looks like a beauty queen. She’ll look nice on magazine spreads and catalogs but she cant work the runaway abeg. Shes not fierce. She looks like an average fine chick to me.

    • AlittleHumor September 5, 2011 at 4:03 PM

@Beauty and Brains: biko ga zuru ike!! dont people make all kinds of funny and annoying remarks about the Igbos and we all laugh it off?! Just becos someone is celebrating an Igbo girl’s victory doesnt make them myopic or tribalistic….afterall when a Nigerian won Miss World were we not all proud of her as a Nigerian? but was she the only African in the contest? how come all those other African countries didnt beef us for hailing our own rather than “African girl”? Nne or Nna, which ever one you are, ga hie ura inula?!

    • jezz September 5, 2011 at 5:17 PM

17 ke/ Abeg, leave story. Can’t u see d fine line on her cheek?

      • Oluchi September 5, 2011 at 6:45 PM

        I agree. She’s more like 25.

    • Lola X September 5, 2011 at 11:13 PM

Lol! At the age dispute. Congrats to her!

    • cuchicoo September 6, 2011 at 1:09 PM

There is no tribalistic thing here, the organiser is a full urhobo lady, plus the judge is french, please there is no tribalistic thing here, it just so happens that igbo girls have been lucky so far…..

    • cuchicoo September 6, 2011 at 1:11 PM

O! and chinwe is 17, just clocked 18 last month……nd as for her not looking confident in the last picture its because she was in shock and happy at the announcement of her name…….

    • Clara September 6, 2011 at 1:12 PM

Chinwe is what they call the MONEY GIRLS in the modeling industry. She is not for the runway but editorials, beauty products…(That is were the money is not runway) She would sell and make more money than Chika. She is pretty. Good luck chinwe.

    • chinwe September 6, 2011 at 1:45 PM

Hi every one, i have been reading all the comments on me i really appreciate the good ones and the bad ones as well, i would work on wateva i can. bout the age thing, i know, i get alot of “YOU LOOK OLDER” all the time, i guess it has its disadvantages and advantages. thank you all the same though.

her name is chinwe and my sister name is chinwe. e be like say chinwe people the de sharp

    • THE AMAKA September 7, 2011 at 11:06 PM

this girl is beautiful! none of you have seen any photo shoots or runway shows yet and you are saying she cant do high fashion. WHATEVER! also for those comparing her and Chika. sorry that you’ve used your myopic view on the fashion industry for black girls where its only stereotypical looking black girls that can do high fashion. the stereotypical Naomi Campbell type (white girl dipped in chocolate look) or the bald “African” looking girl. i think more people need to break the stereotype, SO GO FOR IT CHINWE!
THEY ARE BOTH FIERCE! THEY ARE BOTH PRETTY! THEY BOTH ROCK!

    • lois March 8, 2012 at 7:48 PM

OMG!congrats chinwe!you look so different and chick!hope you still remember old primary school days.lol.i wish you all the best in your journey fashionwise…
