We have a fabulous BN Pick Your Fave feature today! This one features a beautiful Deola Sagoe piece. This floor-length dress with a dramatic peaked shoulder, cascading ruffled side detailing and a shimmery back panel made its runway debut at the 2010 Africa Fashion Week in Johannesburg.
Nigerian style icon, Nike Oshinowo-Soleye and international actress Anika Noni Rose have both stepped out in this gorgeous frock.
Nike Oshinowo-Soleye was the grand dame of the Miss Nigeria 2011 competition. As the CEO of the Miss Nigeria organization, Nike guided the ladies all through the process, right up to the “crowning moment”. On stage at the Miss Nigeria 2011 finale, Nike was dressed in this standout Deola Sagoe piece. She kept her hair elegant in a trendy knot, makeup and jewellery were mininamist as well with the only pop of colour from her red lipstick.
Dreamgirls star Anika Noni Rose gave this dress its red carpet debut at the BET Honors event in January 2011. Though this is a very bold dress, Anika added a few strategic accessoires. Her hair was swept up in a soft chignon and she completed her look with a pair of precious jewel drop earrings and a cocktail ring.

As much as I love nike and would love to give this to her- i cant! Anika definitely wears it better.
Anika’s look is more finished- the hair and make-up complement the dress very very well!.
Nike’s lip colour kinda clashes with the dress- Anika’s nude make-up works way better. Also- I’m not feeling nike’s ‘school-teacher’ hair-do!

She kept it way too simple (what the heck happend to her earrings??) and that dress calls for a bit more…

Anika wears the dress alot better for me. The dress looks alot more fitted on her, her whole look is alot cleaner and more finished, she accessorized alot better and her make up is also better.

uh…the fact that the mike hid her boobs doesn’t mean they weren’t there. Judging from their slight swell visible in the first picture, my guess is her boobs were as visible as Anika’s.
That said, Anika nailed it! Nike looks a bit washed out, boring makeup, even the lip doesn’t pop like it should with that color, plus the hair and even her posture is boring. Anika on the other hand has her shoulders thrown back, fresh makeup, fabulous earrings, a funky do to match the funky dress…and best accessory of all, a smile! I love…

Lol… I’m with you. It could have done without the frills down the sides and the fly away shoulder. All that drama cheapened the fabric. Anika looked regal regardless and she took this one.

when i saw the dress i cringed> very expensive glamorous fabric but its too too much!!! endelss frills at all angles and the sleeves thn nude and silver at th same time!!> adeola sagoe thoooo1! u over thought this outfit and then overdid it.

People,give it up 4 Anika! She did dis dress justice. Ha body is rocking in dat dress and d color totally matches ha skin tone. Ha hair n accesories wr a great complement to the finishing of dis outfit but a dash of color on her lips wud hv heightened her look a lot more but Nike also looked good in this dress aldoh I’v seen her look beta and fr dis event,she sure nided d xpert advice of a stylist cos ha hairdo n d lack of complementary accessories ws a mistake.

It’s a beautiful dress and may I say that both ladies look gorgeous. Nike’s photo was more candid while Anika’s was more posed so she does have that benefit, I do prefer Anika’s nude lip and earrings though. But I have a soft spot for Nike so I’m gonna go with her if she posing like Anika was she wulda killed it.

it looked like Nike rushed out of the house and packed her hair in d car and forgot her earring. the dress flattered her body no doubt but a little more accessory would have completed the look.if she wore her hair down without accessories, she wld have looked beta….Anika wore it beta for me….

I give it to Nike’s glowing complexion and well-toned body but take away that Deola Sagoe dress and replace with a black floor length and she’ll look like a mourner. That Akeelah’s hairstyle is not working for me at all and where the heck is her earrings? Looks over the edge. Just my opinion though.
They both look lovely…But Nike woulda done ear rings, nothing busy, just simple. She looks too plain.
Saw it first on Nike – thot was simplicity at its refined best! Still do having seen it in Noni – both ladies are lovely though but Nike still remains my best wearer of the dress – her curves did her well.
