Mermaid myths are an international phenomenon most recently represented in British/Nigerian author Helen Oyeyemi’s novel ‘The Opposite House’. The Yoruba pantheon itself has traveled through parts of Europe, and even as far as Cuba where it is in some places practiced as a religion. Inspired by this worldwide appeal, 37th State made the documentary “The Lady In the Water” and the movie “Nkiru”
With the film and the documentary, 37th State seeks to educate, entertain and inspire its audiences in a unique, fresh and accessible way.
