President Barack Obama officially Sworn In as the 44th President of the United States of America! BN Scoop & Photos from the Swearing-In-Ceremony & Inaugural Ball

“Obama’s on FIRE”

Those were the words R&B music star Alicia Keys used to describe President Barack Obama while performing her hit song Girl on Fire at the Commander-In-Chief’s Inaugural Ball.

Yesterday, Monday 21st January 2013, President Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America. At the swearing in ceremony, he spoke on skin colour, believing in America, supporting Asia, Africa and Middle East as well as gay rights.

BN brings you photos and scoop from the swearing in ceremony and inauguration ball.

The Commander-In-Chief’s Inaugural Ball
The 2013 Commander-In-Chief’s Inaugural ball took place at the Washington Convention Center, DC. During his address, President Barack Obama dedicated the evening to Americans and military service members saying, “This whole party is just another way something we can never say enough: thank you.”

For their second dance (PS the first was in 2010), the first couple swayed to Jennifer Hudson‘s rendition of Al Green‘s “Let’s Stay Together”.  The night also witnessed performances by Alicia Keys, Brad Paisley, Mann and Fun.

Spotlight on Michelle Obama’s Inaugural Ball Outfit
Yes everyone wanted to hear President Barack Obama’s speech but everyone wanted to see one person in particular – The First Lady of the United States of America, Michelle Obama and what she will be wearing.

At the 2013 Inauguration ball, the 49 year old first lady looked ravishing in a custom red Jason Wu gown. Keeping the name of the designer she will wear “top secret” till the D-Day, the first lady decided to go for Jason Wu once again – the designer who created her one-shoulder white floor length dress for the 2009 Inauguration ball.

She accessorized the chiffon velvet dress with a pair of Jimmy Choo heels and custom Kimberly McDonald custom jewels. Her bangs completed the look.

Inaugural Swearing In Ceremony
Earlier in the day, President Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America at the inaugural parade route down Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, DC infront of over 800,000 people.

Grammy Award winning singer, Beyonce Knowles belted out the Star Spangled Banner National anthem. She arrived in a black Emilio Pucci dress, black Dior coat and a selection of emerald green Lorraine Schwartz jewels with her rap mogul husband Jay-Z dapper in a gray Tom Ford suit.

American Idol alum Kelly Clarkson was also present to perform “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee”. Also present at the swearing in ceremony include new pop couple Katy Perry and John Mayer as well as Eva Longoria.

  • Monica January 22, 2013 at 1:14 pm

Ok, I love me some Obama but sometimes I wonder if its just cos he is a black man….I actually dont agree fundementally with the policies of the democrats….I’m a social conservative who is a christian….I dont really agree with equal gay rights (I’m a sinner as well so I’m not one to jump and be bashing them but dont agree with gay marraige sha….) …dont agree with abortion either….and I’m somewhat fiscally conservative also….

Anyway! I still voted for him sha…wanted to partake in the making of history and all….God bless America

    • wisdom January 22, 2013 at 6:32 pm

I do not agree with gay relationship but the issue is a civil rights issue. Obama doesn’t agree with gay marriage as well but the law that is passed was for them to get the same rights as a heterosexuality couple, meaning medical benefits etc. Gay people are going to choose whatever they want to choose regardless. But God gave us the free will to choose. Just like abortion, I don’t agree with it, but if the law is passed, one would hope that people will not choose that. If you believe in the bible it says the rain falls on the just and the unjust, meaning he can pour out His blessing on those that deserve and don’t deserve it. Also remember the scripture when God said, today i give you a choice of life and death, blessing and cursing, choose life. Let people have the right to choose but hopeful they will choose what is GOOD.

Victory for Africans? If Obama’s father had not fled his life, do you think he would stand a chance at being president? Do you think he would be able to reason straight? Obama is a sign to Africa. Wake up!!! We either claim glory that is not ours or we wake up, smell the coffee and fix what is wrong with our society. Only in a country where your key to success lies 50% in your hands would an OBama story emerge. At least, he was entitled to a good public school education, he had access to scholarships if he studied hard, his JAMB or WAEC results were not seized, he did not have to pay university professors to pass, he went to school and actually learned something other than killing and maiming in the name of fraternity, he was allowed to exercise his freedom of speech and will, and so on and so forth. 99% of Nigerians dont have these opportunities. Let us fix that before we celebrate glory that we cannot menable or support because of our wickedness.

In fact this is why we cannot leave America to come and support Nigeria’s growth without fear of extreme failure that has nothing to do with you but with everything around you. It is frustrating, indeed. Obama is only there because there was a REAL election with people’s proverbial “thumb prints” counting. If it was for Nigeria, an Obama, i.e., someone with the intention to do good would never even see it to the primaries. They get slaughtered/murdered or stolen from. Obama dare not contest election in Nigeria if he does not have a body count for a prominent politician that will cause other politicians to swoon or if he is not born to a political family where being in office is deemed a birth right, even if the person has nothing to contribute to humanity.

I see a man, not born with a golden spoon but made something out of himself. Thats where my enthusiasm comes from. Color or race has nothing to do with it.
He is an American president not African or black president.
