Designer Ugonna Omeruo is best known for her fierce red carpet style. The designer is regularly spotted on the red carpet and at events looking fabulous (Click to Check Out BN Style Spotlight on Ugonna).

Now Ugonna is shifting the focus away from her personal style to her label – House of Nwocha. The label will be launching their new collection called ZION on Sunday 24th October 2010. The event which is taking place at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in Lagos will include the formal presentation of the collection, unveiling of the Face of HON as well as performances by Waje and M.I.

The collection flows from a more formal aesthetic with long embellished dresses presented in pink with black accents to a younger, flirtier look  with a multicolour print fabric morphed into various pieces including a jacket, tailored trousers and a caped floor length dress. According to the designer, “the spring/summer 2011 collection was inspired by an Asian Samurai Painting and has a colour mix of fuchsia pink, royal blue & black. The collection reveals an array of long classic dresses and edgy short pieces with Asian silk fabrics soft in texture and flows in peace like a nile“.

Ugonna describes the new collection as ‘a zionic paradise with a combination of edgy and sexy’.

Okay, since your friends are done commenting I’ll give an honest review. The dresses are well sewn, and the finishing’s not bad. Other than that, the designs don’t wow me. You haven’t brought anything new to the table. I don’t know, the dresses look like floor length versions of shift dress I had seen previously. Maybe it’s all the pink.

Everyone has said their mind & the truth is that Ugonna, you can’t please everyone.i wonder when we will take a cue & encourage one of ours when they achieve certain feats.half of you who have both positively & negatively commented wish you have half of her talent.Ugonna isn’t my friend & neither have i met her but i must say all the pieces i saw above are most certainly creative & as she stated INSPIRED.also the colours used had been stated,so abeg why the fuss over the fact that you don’t like PINK,na wa o!!

Ugonna, keep the Flag Flying & ensure ur prices stay Affordable even as you gather Accolades.

The green dress…it’s batman forever, or rather batwoman. It would be wearable without the batwoman’s wings. And it does look like the same thing going on and on…

Totally agree with u Pinky! Wonderful line! Totally Evokes Paradise… 1 thing nigerian designers need to realise is that couture isn’t always wearable…they always play it safe! loving d 2nd,3rd nd 6th pieces!

    October 20, 2010 at 8:51 pm

this is a breather of fresh air! cos all the rest of the ‘upcoming’ designers here are horrible! i mean they are just tailors and NOT designers! i like the fact that she went outa her way to play with lots of colors and stil put up with good construction, its not easy to work with lots of color and artistical fabric designs, she still needs to do alot of work tho, this is not WOW but she really tryed…and i just love love the fabirc. BUT you need to erase that stretched “lady gaga” shit! it looks tacky! and geezz its too cliche! vonne has that too and the rest of them wack designers *rolls eyes* but u dryed my dear, keep it up and learn from the professionals. 😉

I know the designer she is a good friend. Do I like her clothes hell no.. Is she a good designer, hell yes! Her clothes are well made, she has imagination and is not afraid to express herself through her designs. Fed up with the done to death anakara designs.. As someone said above, this woman is a designer. Not a tailor pretending to be a designer. Keep it up.. I pray one day you’ll design something I like. Bring on the male line!!

This is a very classy and elegant collection! i’m not wowed by it but i like it. i really appreciate the effort, styling and details put into this collection. As her debut , this is beyond good compared to some of these so called upcoming designers crappy photoshoots and eye sore designs.
dear bella, this is the kind of upcoming designers u should keep featuring on your site(thumbs up).

For a designer to have the courage to caption her Spring/Summer Collection “A Zionic Paradise with a combination of Edgy and Sexy”, shows audaciy of the highest order. Mixing the esoteric and the temporal, in a swift stroke, shows an inspiration emanating from the sublime. This young and talented designer, must have dined with the divine and her works undoubtedly, stands shoulder to shoulder with the best and brightest the world has to offer. BRAVO!

brilliant use of colour, however, sumthing must be done bout the darts along d bodice. a princess line would look waaaay better and would actually accentuate the figure better than a dart ever would.

As the photographer for this shoot, i might be a little biased but I must say I absolutely love the collection, working with the designer was a pleasure and I appreciate the creativity that went into these pieces, bearing in mind that some of the pieces, as u will find everywhere else in the world, are not considered wearable items for the general public, instead they are made in order for us to appreciate and identify the designers’ interpretation of fashion and style today, I would definately watch out for this one, she is going places.

Hmmmm, Nigerian fashion designers are not doing bad at all, but i still think they have alot of work to do. The designs and finishing are good, presentation of the pieces classy, but would have liked to see more variety. Saw alot of repitition in the designs, nice work though.
