60 Nigerians Deported from UK over Contract Marriages, Visa Scams & other Criminal Offences

It is being reported that at least 60 Nigerians resident in the United Kingdom have been deported because of various criminal offences. While some of the deportees had contravened immigration rules, others were deported for their involvement in crimes such as rape, stealing, smoking and selling of hard drugs. Some were also deported because they  used fake visa or engaged in fake marriages.

Some of the deportees at the airport said they had lived in the UK for long but could not get residence permit. They narrated their experiences to PM News and gave reasons for their deportation.

Bathlomew Sunday, an indigene of Anambra State, southeast Nigeria, said that he lived in UK for nine years but could not get residence permit. Sunday said he had to engage in a contract marriage to get the permit but was later caught by the British immigration, which deported him to Nigeria. He said he was not allowed to take any of his possessions before he was deported, adding that it was at the airport that he discovered other Nigerians were also deported. Sunday explained that the British government made it difficult for immigrants, especially Nigerians, to get residence permit, saying that they didn’t plan to stay there illegally.

Another deportee, Daniel Uche, who hails from Enugu State, said that the global economic meltdown has made it difficult to get jobs in the UK, thus many Nigerians are struggling to survive. Uche said there are no jobs for foreigners in UK, and to survive, many engage in shady businesses.

Also, Peter Nkwocha from Delta State said he travelled to UK about seven years ago, but he was arrested and later deported because he was wrongly accused of rape. Though he said he denied the allegation, he was arrested and later deported when the British authorities discovered he had a ‘contract’ marriage during investigation.

From their accounts, it is clear that they knew they had committed some offences – staying in UK illegally without residence permit, having ‘contract’ marriages, engaging in shady businesses and more. Isn’t it sad that Nigerians have to resort to committing such crimes just because they want to live in foreign countries such as the UK.

Nigerian is not hell fire, better to be in Nigeria and managing than to go to a white man’s land and be shamefully deported. Heaven is the ultimate goal at the end of our life, abroad is not your heaven paradise. Nigeria is not that bad, you can still make it if you hustle hard.

Contract marriage and living in the UK or the US illegally is no news I know people who have done this and got away with it. Its annoying seeing grown Nigerins begging on the streets for money when they could be trading or doing something useful back home. Its sad these people were caught and deported and will leave without their belongings however, the situation in Naija is something else especially unemployment rate. A country with alot of degree holders who graduated with really high grades home and abroad willing to work but no jobs,no incentives or loans toencourage them start their business etc. It is really sad.
For some people, its not about living in foreign country its about doing something worthwhile and earning money to survive as for those engaged in drugs etc well na dem sabi cos poverty is not excuse to be involved in crime

But really I don’t understand the reason nigerians like to die in uk..where nothing is free ,tax and bills everywhere , u can easily survive in Nig living with family without sharing house rent / water bill / council tax , we need to learn to believe in ourselves , people are making it in this country every day , if u can’t get a job , try using your hands , it takes patience , hardwork and d grace of God instead of hiding and living a fake life all in d name of living outside the country

Nigerians need to quit this irresponsible and fraudulent lifestyle…the grass is not always greener on the other side. Nigeria isn’t such a horrible place to live in,besides if you are so intelligent to come up with these schemes…you can actually put it into positive use back home in Nigeria.

Everybody gotta do d shit you gotta do..Some of us are here that our parent back home didnt have much money at all..we are looking after our relatives back home..You might find a well suitable job here but if you`re focus, You can still make at least 1k pounds in a month, How much is that in Nigeria? Thanks for the comments – off you are the only person that have made a good statement and talking about what our ppl are facing in nigeria. Some of those commenting and saying rubbish, they too can deport themselves down to Nigeria to start a new life and leave uk for good, they talk as if uk is not far better than Nigeria. A friend of mine in uk staying there for 6month boosted of being better than a bank worker. my frnd earns 50k in two weeks, so WTF u ppl saying? scraps and commenting rubbish about this ppl deported. I just pray you ppl come down here to experience such probs ppl are facing.

This article makes out that they’re forced into sham marriages, fraud and all the other ‘shady’ business they’re notorious for.
Fact is , Nigerians are known for being dishonest, liars and always in trouble for fraud, violence and rape. Can’t open a paper without seeing one staring back , jailed for another crime. They CHOOSE to do these crimes. It’s not ‘the economy’ , ‘society’ or the ‘white man’
