Davido Gobe

Ever since Davido burst on the scene with his “Back When” single, the young star hasn’t let us rest with hit after hit after hit feature after hit, you get my drift…

Now, he’s back with a funky new single, “Gobe” that shows all sorts of growth in his sound and with fresh, clean-cut visuals to boot.

not that i have anything against Davido, really i love him but can i just say i took soe sadistic pleasure when i saw his black eye and busted lips.. yes i know its not true, but it made me smile all the same. lol. The song is not bad actually as a club hit, and the video is probably one of his best as far as im concerned (i have only seen 3 so..)

This niggy here stay jacking songs and beats…. O_O… This song belongs to an artist by the name of PASSWORD and he recorded this song in 2011 or so…. Just like his ‘Dami Duro’ beat that he jacked from a South African group… SMDH

ALL you new artist in Nigeria you have to COPYRIGHT your sh*t or get a lawyer… I think I might have to start doing some pro bono work for new artist in Nigeria on my vacations….

Here is the original version of GOBE by Password—–> notjustok.com//home.php?url=/2011/07/08/password-gobe-champion-skit/#/2011/07/08/password-gobe-champion-skit/

Mr copyright lawyer, I’m sure u do realize some other lawyers read this blog as well.
So i decided to respond to your rant about Davido. Firstly, I’m not a fan like that but i think its time people stop knocking someone else’s hustle every time you believe that some injustice has been done without carrying out any appropriate research or fact finding for that matter.
So the songs you have rightly mentioned has been used by Davido and all credit to you for researching that, but to sit in front of your computer and say that any copyright laws has been flouted in Nigeria is just utter rubbish. For your information there are real copyright lawyers out there that make sure the rules and procedures of the NIGERIAN COPYRIGHT COMMISSION are upheld. S39(1) of the Nigerian copyright Act 1992 deals with any adaptation to pre-existing work of an author and the basic principle is that some royalty would have to be paid to these individuals that their songs have been re-modified. so where you got the information that he has been infringing any copyright law baffles me. (you may Google that)
As much as you’d might like to think Nigeria is a state where the rule of law doesn’t exist and jungle justice has always been the way forward(I’m sure you would be pleasantly surprised that there are still some systems that provide effective mechanism for unjust situations, albeit maybe not a lot but the Copyright Act is one of them). Lastly from a business point of view, strategically some songs gain a higher popularity when its published/recorded by a certain artists, even in westernized countries it happens frequently.
By the way am not sure if i was a new artist I’d like you to provide pro bono services for me.Its pretty difficult to reconcile your lack of etiquette and professionalism with the fact that you are actually someone who wants to be in the legal profession. Food for thought mate.

Thank you for your response….. First and foremost if the Artist named ‘PASSWORD’ who wrote the Gobe song claims that Davido never paid or cleared the song with him then he (Davido) is in violation of COPYRIGHT infringement. below is a link which the artist claims that he never gave permission to anyone to use the song. The group out of South Africa (Luquideep) also say they never gave him permission to sample their (Alone) beat. (Strike 2)…. Yes, I do agree that people do sample songs with permission, but Davido obviously did not get permission and as per the GOBE song that isn’t even sampling… Thats straight JACKING.

Now there are a lot of small artist out there that don’t have money for Lawyers and don’t even know how to COPYRIGHT their own material. I feel that these artist need help and thats why I mentioned Pro bono work. Here is the artist twitter page and what he had to say about the song GOBE——> @GobePassword

      Wrong is Wrong my friend….

What are you doing to help your fellow citizen in your line of work????

    To clear the air.
Davido actually paid 500k to Password.
By buying his song, but the thing might be that Password didn’t tell Davido that he already realised the song in 2011 but did not make wave (either way), Davido is cool with him. You can confirm from Davido’s twitter page.
