Sahara Foundation, Waje, Dana Air, Chigul, Zaron, GSK & More Walk Against Cancer at EMAC Abuja 2014
On Saturday 5th April 2014, the Exquisite Magazine Against Cancer Walk (EMAC) held to increase the awareness for cervical, breast and prostate cancer and also provide free screening for men and women in Abuja.
The walk gave Exquisite Magazine and it’s partners the opportunity to screen many Nigerians free of charge, which will help in detecting people who have early stages of cervical cancer. The EMAC walk in Abuja raised more awareness for cancer and highlighted the importance of early detection and treatment. Hundreds of men and women including celebrities like Waje, Chigul and more, turned up to walk against cancer and were screened free of charge for cervical, breast and prostate cancer.
Tewa Onasanya the editor in chief of Exquisite Magazine stated that “we are so happy our goal to raise awareness and get people screened was fulfilled today. I am glad that people are making use of the mobile clinic we built today to get screened. We aim to continue to raise more awareness for these cancers and highlight the importance of early detection via regular screening”.
The Aim is to continue to increase the awareness for:
– Cervical cancer (the only cancer with a pre cancerous stage) which kills one woman every hour in Nigeria
– Breast cancer which kills a woman every minute and
– Prostate cancer where eight in ten black men will be affected in their lifetime.’’
